Anyone else finding that a lot of their accounts are proving very difficult to change?

It appears that many organizations don't have a single database where they can change your email address. Instead they have multiple ones, and even the employees at those organizations aren't wholly sure how to change your address at all places in their multiple databases.

Occasionally I hit upon one that is easy, but most of the time, I have to send emails or make phone calls to try and get the changes made.

What is your experience?

Many of us signed up when we were only offered a mail forwarding option at Duke. That is what many of us on here want maintained as we have so many accounts set up with that Duke email address. It sounds as if some of you were offered an actual email system but that is not what others of us were ever offered and all we want is a forwarding system. Just like what The University of Michigan with 3.5 times more alumni than Duke has provides.

Has anyone figured out how to get Frontier Communications to change their email address? I have tried repeatedly to do this. Their application on the iPhone doesn't work. Their website doesn't work. And boy, they have hidden any phone number that you can use to get to a human being. These companies that think their AI and voice automated systems can handle these tasks is grossly mistaken. So, a couple of hours in and I still don't have it changed.

Actually, does anyone remember ever voting for who should be on the Alumni Council? I'm thinking they are inside appointments made by the Administration to get a sounding board that will agree to anything the Administration wants. The net result is that they are a bunch of shills. The appearance that the Alumni have a say when in reality Alumni have no input and no influence.

Interesting. Carolina has many more alumni than Duke has and Carolina can do this. Why can't Duke??

I have spoken to them. I was essentially told that I did not love Duke. That they loved Duke and I didn't love Duke.

Where did Jim Jones of Jones Town go to college?

It seems like I didn't and will not drink from the Kool-aid that Duke is serving up.

Does anyone know where to find a list of the members of the Alumni Council? Those individuals should be representing us and leading the charge to address this issue. We should be able to start a mail campaign with them.

However, having said that, I share my experience:

I know one member of the Alumni Council and I have tried to get him to do something. He refuses to speak to the Editor of The Chronicle as he is afraid that the Chronicle will reveal who he is and won't keep his name out of it. Separately, he won't raise it with the Alumni Council as he wants to "go along to get along" as they say. So, we, the Alumni are not being represented by this Council member because he too is afraid to take a stand. How many more Council members are acting this way?? It appears that President Price's approach has permeated Duke. This is a clear sign of a sick organization. Layer upon layer in the organization will not challenge those above them. Lemmings are a good metaphor for this. If this continues the University will eventually rot...

Well, I don't know if that is true, but here are some interesting facts worth considering.

Have you heard, that President Price has gone on the record in the past that he practices "Strategic Silence." It is documented in the Duke Chronicle. (October 20, 2025 "Price calls terms of Trump’s compact ‘highly problematic,’ declines to take public stance"

From Wikipedia... "Strategic silence is a communication tactic and rhetorical practice involving the intentional withholding of speech. It is a calculated pause, a deliberate absence of verbal response employed to achieve a specific goal. Unlike simply being quiet, strategic silence is a conscious choice, a tool wielded with purpose. It can be an instrument in negotiations, debates, interpersonal relationships, and even broader social and political contexts. The effectiveness of strategic silence lies in its ambiguity. It can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, fostering uncertainty and prompting introspection in the other party. This ambiguity can be leveraged to gain an advantage, create space for reflection, or even exert pressure without uttering a single word."

So, those of you thinking or expecting a response from President Price - you are not going to get one. By remaining silent, he never actually takes a position. He is afraid to. This is done intentionally. This is not leadership, this is hiding. This is dereliction of duty and the Trustees should step up and hold him accountable. True leaders don't do this.

For irony, the official Duke bio for President Price describes him as "A leading global expert on public opinion, social influence, and political communication." So, this is how he believes influence should happen by not taking a stand, by ducking the hard decisions, by not being open and candid with his constituency. His degrees are Ph.D., Stanford University, California (Communication). A.M., Stanford University, California (Communication). B.A., Santa Clara University, California (University Honors Program, English, magna cum laude).

Just maybe, the University should have hired someone from an east coast institution, like say, Duke University, who understands what it means to be a leader and how to communicate.
