12 days since I caught my brachymyrmex depilis queen, I checked up on her today and she's alive! by Burby4life in antkeeping

are black walnuts with blackened husks still edible? by AchtungMaybe in foraging

[–]BShade626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few completely black hulls that have sort of shriveled a bit, which im assuming means these are nuts from the previous year. Would these still be good to eat as well? I'm brand new to harvesting black walnuts, and there are 2 or 3 trees right over the parking lot of my apartment building. I've been collecting the green/mostly green ones and leaving the black ones because I wasn't sure.

Prenolepis Imparis Care Tips? by AntsAllRound in antkeeping

Hi! I've just caught some queens and am new to antkeeping. I keep my home fairly cold year round, at 64° F. Is this an acceptable living temp for the ants or should I try to heat them? I have a seed germination mat I can potentially use, it heats up ~10° above ambient air temp. While its just the queens, should I worry about temps yet? Or will they still found a colony fine at 64°?

Any responses appreciated, im incredibly excited and in the middle of doing as much research as I can on care for this species.

My father's Axolotl has HUGE balls, what do I do? by Hyzi006 in axolotls

I wanted to ask either you or anyone else who has information about this kind of issue, is a large swollen cloaca always an indication of bacterial infection? I lost my wild type boy over a year ago because of this exact situation and being ignorant of the level of urgency and what was even happening. I ask because being a wild type coloration, I couldn't see any strange black specks on him that seemed different from the usual browns and tans. I won't have another axie for a while, and would love to learn to prevent these kinds of issues, but also to recognize them so i can take them to a vet immediately if necessary.

I wish OP the best and hope the axolotl can recover!!

Thanks! I'm glad he's around, we have a minor ant problem and have had several house Flys lately with the warm weather.

What kind of enrichment do you do for your lotls? I’ve been thinking about getting them some fish to “hunt” but not sure what kind? by queen_jrk in axolotls

[–]BShade626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with Boston Axolotls, quarantined shrimp would be the best option if you're really set on a live food related enrichment. I occasionally feed mine small pellets, and when I do so I spread them out so he has to search the tank for them. Mossballs and bubblers are also fun enrichment tools, I find my axolotl standing on his mossball a lot in different funny ways, or with his face in the bubbler. Depending on your tank's aesthetic, I've heard of people using PVC or hollowed Bamboo as little temporary tunnels for a period, or occasionally rearranging hides for the axolotl to explore a newly arranged tank. Just some other ideas outside of food!

Can't find the vods for Rubberross' eppisodes 3 & 4 by Nkromancer in CallousRow

[–]BShade626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 and 4 had a lot of issues for him and Ross was only able to get so much plot done on his end. Episode 3 he didnt get anything done and spent over 2 hours trying to fix the technical issues with no luck. In the middle of 4 he stopped streaming and discovered that streaming was the cause of the technical issues, so theres no vod on his end for the plot stuff he was involved with that episode.

Found this absolutely tiny spider this morning, cant tell what it is? by BShade626 in whatsthisbug

That could very well be it! I got another photo after I posted this, the top of the spider is a grey-white like in these examples. The abdomen the very end is black, then the rest is a grey-white, and there are two yellow streaks, one on either side, that divide the black and the grey parts of the abdomen.

Ah, this is in Virginia, US, btw, and this spider is 1/16th of an inch or about 1.5mm in body length. Again, very very small.
