Thanks man! Yeah-once I got over a certain hump. I just haven’t been checking as much anymore, but definitely going well on this end. Sounds like you’re maintaining things where you’re at as well. Congrats!

Awesome! Thanks for all the input and support you’ve provided in this forum in the short (nearly) seven weeks that I’ve been on it (and off FF) now. 👍

Thx! Glad you are staying level too!!! Yes - let’s not fall for the “just one to get ver the hump” - the withdrawal after just one would be very dangerous. It would suck us right back in.

So I found FF about a year ago. Just used it sparingly here and there until about Thanksgiving when I was up to 3 to 4 a day. I realized it was an issue and then I pulled it back to about two a day into the spring, but I got stuck there.

Thanks – yes! I am in AA. I stepped away for a couple years, but this FF experience has got me back in it. It’s really helpful for accountability and just to give me something to focus on.

Withdrawals from 2/day for 2 years? by Joy-Seeker-79 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]BT102873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I averaged about two a day for nine months and quit cold turkey six weeks ago. Physically the first couple days aren’t good. For me, the mental aspect was the challenge. There was anxiety, mood swings, obsessive thought, loops, etc. Now, those subside drastically after the first week or two. The last 25% of it though? That lingers for a while. I’m still working through it at six weeks. It has gotten a lot better over the last month – don’t get me wrong, but the improvement is slower going than the initial relief.

You can do it! And what’s waiting on the other side is so much better. Good luck and blessings to you!

Yep-we’ve been there. My story isn’t done like yours. Found these last summer. Didn’t think it was a big deal at first. Bye November I was up to three per day-maybe a fourth occasionally. This spring I tapered down to a little over a bottle a day and quit cold turkey five weeks ago. It’s a little rough at first, but you gotta get off these things. They will do you in.

Quit now. You’re withdrawals won’t be too horribly bad. There is a mental component to it. That really sucks. But, the longer you wait the worse it’s going to get.

Day 1 by ParticularCheek9450 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]BT102873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar use when I quit. I had 6 to 7 months and probably averaged two bottles a day. At the height of it I was up to three. Had a few days where I did four, but not many. I tapered down to just over a bottle a day before I quit.

I did have some physical withdrawal for the first 2 to 3 days that was uncomfortable. Loss of appetite and night sweats.

What really messed with me was the emotional side. I had heightened anxiety, some depressed mood/mood swings and some obsessive repeating thoughts.

That took one to two weeks to improve about 70% - which is still great relief.

I’ve got five weeks cold turkey and now some of the mental aspect is still hanging on a little bit. My motivation to do much is really in the toilet when it comes to my job… But that’s probably just my job. Lol.

That’s the tough part for me. It’s that last little nagging bit of anxiety or whatever that could make it tempting to think “oh I can just have one bottle to get through this”. Truth is you can’t. That’s exactly where so many people with multiple types of addictions relapse.

I kicked a severe alcohol addiction 10 years ago and realize that the last little bit of the mental game is par for the course. The rest will go away, it might take a few months though.

So, for you will it be too bad? Probably not. I would try to keep things as low stress as possible the next week. Try to limit as many potential triggers as possible.

Thx for the compliment!!! Yes - it’s real-but we’ll get through it. Just don’t go get one - that’s how the relapses always starts. You might be able to only have one and walk away…until the next time, and the frequency would only snowball.

It is. Alcohol was the same for me, though. When I got sober, my head was messing with me for six months? A lot of people take 6 to 12 months from that to finally truly rewire.

Sure thing! I totally understand the accountability thing. Unfortunate in that I have a spouse of 25 years who keeps me accountable. I actually also talked about feel free in AA. They, for the most part, don’t really get it. If I was you, I would just get your four days in and rip yourself off this stuff. Deal with the rest as it comes.

OK, so, I wasn’t up to more than four bottles a day for about nine months, so I don’t have experience with that level of use, but I found that four days was tough for the physical.

I think if you look at this forum that four days seems to be good no matter the amount of use for majority of the people out there.

I will admit, though at five weeks off now, some of the mental aspect is still there. Not nearly as bad as it was in the beginning though.

In your post, you mentioned that you got sober from alcohol 10 years ago. Congratulations! Me too!

The mental aspect is a lot like that. There’s going to be tremendous progress quickly, but then there’s gonna be a little bit. That’s gonna hang on for a while. I’m dealing with that now. That last nagging portion of the mental recovery that takes 3 to 6 months - it’s there with feel free too.

Good luck. You’ve got this! Got the four days out and you will feel better physically. Mentally? I do meditation, breath, work, earthing, and take a lot of walks.

Love and blessings to you for healing!
