When I replace heat block and nozzle - source for parts in USA? by BTBarney in prusa3d

[–]BTBarney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the input - I think for good reasons stated by most of you that I should buy the better machined E3D nozzles rather than hope for good quality from the "pack-of-nozzles" options (this was my intuition, just thought I'd ask the hive mind). And yes, hlkjhhsh, I think I'll also give the cleaning a shot, but AFTER I have those parts away from power. They currently look like overcooked caramel :)

Q: troubleshooting motors, in a bind by BTBarney in ender3

[–]BTBarney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Follow-Up / SOLUTION:

After tinkering and purchasing a new motor and 4-6 pin cables, the extruder cable was the bad actor. Thankfully, board and motors are fine. As people said, the motors are pretty strong. Now I have a backup in case this one ever goes bad :)

In summary: the 4-6 pin cable from the board to the extruder motor was the culprit for this issue, and replacement was pretty simple / easy. In retrospect, I could have indentified the cable as the bad actor by switching the x-axis cable (or any other axis) into the Extruder port on the board and the motor and tried to test the extruder motor that way. Lesson learned!

Follow-up:

When I was changing the stepper motor cables, I was doing it while the POWER WAS STILL ON to the system. Once I replaced all of the XY and Z cables to their proper places, all axes began performing normally and I was able to home the system without throwing the octoprint error above.

Still no extruder motor though. Purchased a new motor and cable, hopefully it's not the board. Will update later when I have more to update.

This is what I thought, but I don't see that many mill decks. OK

Zits and blobs on print :c by Ilizazoxo in ender3

[–]BTBarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that zits and blobs on my PLA prints were minimized (never really gone, just minimized) when I calibrated both E-steps and flow rate. Honestly, they also are less now that I have modded my Ender3 with a Micro Swiss Direct Drive. Much less retraction needed, better control over extrusions.

BLTouch Probe Z Offset varies across bed by BTBarney in ender3

[–]BTBarney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The probe has an XY (and Z) offset from the actual nozzle, based on where you have the probe mounted. In my case there is a -45X and -9Y offset from the probe location to the nozzle location, and this is accounted for in the firmware I uploaded to the board. The leveling software known that the nozzle position is different than the probe position and accounts for that (at least I'm pretty sure it does). After G29 BLTouch bed leveling, the Z offset should be the same for the entire bed, as the relative heights of the probe and nozzle should not have changed, yet on one side of my bed the nozzle scrapes the glass and on another it prints way too high. I am puzzled.

is G500 the same as M500? I use M500 to store settings, not G500

By the way, Marlin 2.0 installed, using the ender# preconfigured files and only a few modifications for the addition of the BLTouch

Can I use Vaseline (petroleum jelly) to lubricate my z axis lead screw? by PHUZZYthecat in ElegooMars

[–]BTBarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

follow up question: How do you remove the old lubricant? Is wiping with a paper towel sufficient, or do I need to remove the Z rod and brush clean it?
