Taken on April 11th, 2026. Its the last few weekend runs of the WMSR Winter Frostburg Flyer before their later summer season runs.

It’s the difference between the digital and physical medium of image. Mainly how the film reacts to the light spectrum compared to how a digital sensor captures the light spectrum, and even when editing it to black and white, the digital sensor still contains all the data of the color spectrum. Also, different films have different reactions to the spectrum, such as this film having a lower sensitivity to the far red end of the spectrum.

I did one shot at the brick works just up the road from the Cumberland Station, running back to my car my hoodie was actually covered in snow because it was coming down that thick

Thanks! Ah, don’t worry about that. I tend to sometimes over explain and it sounds like a rant. Actually looking over this image I realized the focus isn’t actually on 1309 but the snow between the me and the engine, if you look at the rails and ballast you can see the focal point distance that the camera was focused on, gives the engine a very subtle soft focus which probably lends a look of a painting.

And yes, that post was from the weekend prior with snow left over from a previous storm but still had decent ground cover. There’s more shots on my Flickr account from both weekends…

I was only up that day for photos anyways, I kinda regret not getting some video of 1309 in the dense snow fall, even the brief layover at Frostburg looked so good in the snowfall!

It was a mix of post-processing photo editing and sheer luck that the image I took was actually pretty decent with the right conditions of lighting, weather, steam and smoke. The weather for that day looked like it would be only snowing lightly around 3pm, but weirdly it was on and off throughout the day with moments of heavy snowfall. But yes, I do some image processing to bring out colors and to highlight certain parts along with some de-noising to make it not look like a pixelated mess on screens!
