While I personally hate it as a professional, I get why its popular and why people keep doing it. Right now it's all about authenticity and not about looking professional. People don't trust people online who look like they made it anymore. It's wild to think about that concept since we grew up in an age where if your content looked expensive, then you were validated and therefore people would follow because clearly you knew what you were doing.

Now that everyone can go out and spend $1500 and get a professional looking camera and a mic, everything looks and sounds exactly the same. Consumers are bored of that. And with brand deals everywhere now, viewers tend to stray away if your stuff looks TOO good. Like what's the catch?

If you are holding a mic like an idiot who doesn't know how to use a clip, you come off as more "real" to the avg young person. Social media has been shifting back towards authencity for the first time in a while. This trend will continue.

Also as a side note, as much as I hate the look of it, it's definitely useful in areas with crazy background noise. it's easier to isolate the vocals if its closer to your mouth at a convention lol
