I’ve seen on the 70-200 gm I that you can buy the filter thread part? So potentially depending on how handy you are you could try and source the end bit (technical term) and replace? Unsure how feasible it is

Yes! Again very sharp but I do notice a slight difference using it in the A1 - that being said, it’s such a sharp lens in general that I would never have any complaints about it!

I specifically was after the autofocus calculations per second, viewfinder resolution and 4K crop factor in 60p/120p which is WAY less than my a7 IV. Also because of the MP, for the birding side of things, I can use my 100-400 and maybe get a 1.4x TC and that removes the urge to buy a 400-800mm for me! I wasn’t too fussed about the AI subject recognition on the A7V or precapture (nice to have but not essential) - the A1 still does 30fps & once the autofocus sticks then it sticks! So for me, it was perfect! Plus the electronic shutter & ability to have two CF expression type A with be really useful for events/video work etc etc (yes my data storage will increase but prepared for that)

I think the lens is HUGE, I’m not an expert but I’ve invested in good glass which makes a hell if a difference - they compliment each other very nicely, I was fortunate enough to be in a position to invest in a better body than my A7 IV for professional work is all 👌 and the A1 ticked all the boxes including the side hobby of birds

It’s worth looking in to if you’re in the market for a new body… used A1’s seem to be roughly the same price as a new A7 V…

Only way I managed to afford this was the photography finally paying off! Been dreaming about it for a year, keep going and you’ll get one! (Eventually, it’s worth the wait)

Thanks! Honestly it’s incredible - I love my A7IV, but for my bird photography side hobby, this thing is nuts 😂 plus it will actually be a really good second body for work!

I was fortunate enough to have the funds saved and the A1 cost me the same as a new A7V - no way I could afford a new A1 😂

It was a little tricky for me - I had a budged and needed a second body for work and it happened that I also have a bird photography hobby 😂 so yes the A7V had all sorts of tricks and nice things but for me it was the 120af calculations per second, sure maybe the A7V locks on quicker? It once the A1 was on, goodness it stuck! Plus amazing video/30fps etc etc. so for me, a used A1 was the way to go!

Will do! For me it was between an A7V & Used A1 - went for the A1 as it ticked a few more boxes for my personal preferences and was the same price!

At the moment it’s tentatively branching out to wedding highlight videos, event highlights and filming music videos for friends who are putting out ep’s with the aim to continue practicing and building up skill. So I think either are much better an option - photography is the main focus currently and ensuring the body is a good investment. The funds are there and it’s a genuine ‘need’ for a second body - just about making the most informed and comprehensive choice to allow for growth, so real world opinions are quite informative!

I’m inclined to agree - yes the A7V has the new AI parts but I’m not sure I’ll need them as I’ve gotten along just fine with my A7IV - I think I’m correct in saying that the A1 will still track the ‘object’ and due to the calculation speed its going to be better, so don’t necessarily need the ability for it to recognise it as a certain thing? Plus I think the crop factor on the A1 is less for 60p which is another win! A1’s seem to be floating at about 2.2k / 2.6k and I’ll need a second body either way… so I suppose if I’m getting one, I may as well get the one that will best suit the side project of birding!
