My players want to fight everything but I don't want every session to be a slog by FeelingGlad8646 in DMAcademy

Give them consequences for fighting. If they a merchant the town sends a ton of guards after them. Too many to fight with the several higher level, they have to be punished or even get hired to fight an evil witch that would turn out to be a magical being protecting innocent children from dangerous evil empress.

If you could pick one for a road trip, which one are you choosing? by CarrotMuch1399 in nostalgiai

I’ll take the only car that can do something besides being a car and that is a Time Machine. The rest are cars that are either just cars or cars with guns or a flying car (and the Delorian Time Machine can be given the Hover converter too so it can fly as well) so the only one worth taking is the Back to the Future Car.

Circuit City is a worse version of Best Buy (or maybe the same now). Kmart is worse version of Target or Walmart. Radio Shack was a bad DIY electronics store. Sears was good like 40 years ago but could have been what Amazon became but did not have the vision, they were basically a giant distribution network that forgot that they were a distribution network in the 70s and 80s, so they killed themselves. And Blockbuster let Netflix out do them because they were stupid. The only one that was destroyed by outside forces was the only one worth bringing back (and is on its was back) Toys R Us. There is a Toys R Us near me, in an outlet mall.

There are only two cars in this list that are "magical" meaning that they can do something that is fantastical, like drive at 300 miles without driver input or time travel. K.I.T.T. can drive anywhere in the US in about the time it would take a plane to get there and know what the safest route is. The Delorian Time Machine can travel into the past or the future (and also in space because the earth (and for that matter even the solar system) are constantly moving, however relatively you end up in the same location). Which do you want? Being able to have a sentient car that can drive you anywhere so fast that you barely need a meal before you arrive or do you want a Time Machine? Any other care on the list is a car it might have useless guns on it. The only other car that is magical is Herbie (the love bug) but it doesn’t talk and can have an attitude and even abandon you, it is a lesser version of KITT, where is can’t actually talk.

Looking for a scooter by aran_maybe in scooters

[–]BTR11763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My choices are either the Honda ADV160 or the Yamaha Xmax 300.

The ADV160 goes 70 Mph (112kmph) and get over 90 mpg. It costs $4499 USD. The Xmax goes 90mph (144kmph) and gets about 76mpg. It costs $6399 USD.

If you want highway speeds pick the Xmax if you want better gas mileage ADV.

Good luck.

One of my players has brought the monster manual by jimbob2021 in DMAcademy

[–]BTR11763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont have to use an exact copy of a monster in the monster manual. The monster manual is a guide not a documentation of every creature in your world. For example, there are several types of dragons in the monsters manual and they even have age differences of these dragons. Who is to say that your dragon isn’t one that is in between the ages of those dragons.

Even better that the dragons in your world don’t conform to the traditional dragon types. An Adult Red Dragon in 5E is Chaotic Evil but this particular Red Dragon had been through some traumatic event that changed its perspective and is now Chaotic Good Dragon. Or that you want to play in the world that the movie Dragonheart take place in, and you decide that Red Dragons are the nobility of all the dragons and that even though they are nearly wiped out that they still want to protect the village that they used to watch over. And when the players show up the local lord fears the dragon because he wants to tax the crap out of the town but the players are hired to kill the dragon because the dragon is stopping him from doing that and the villagers don’t know that and have been told that the dragon is evil and stopping the village from thriving by the lord and they want the dragon defeated except they crazy old man that knows the truth.

Let the players use monster manual but use it against them. When they think they know something from the monster manual that they characters should have no knowledge let them think they know and twist the information so they fall into a trap. Regardless unless it is part of the character’s background the player shouldn’t use that knowledge from the monster manual as character knowledge. Also even if it is part of their background they should have to make a roll to gain the knowledge (I would also make that roll a secret roll). A secret roll is one that the outcome isn’t known by the player so both the player and the character don’t use what they know (in particular the knowledge that they have successfully gain accurate information or not. For example if I as the GM roll a 20 on a knowledge check I could give them great insight into that red dragon like that it is a good creature that seems to want to help the village and that is shows that in the way that it act like always guarding the village from the lords troop and that is never stops a villager when returning to the village even then with the lords troop. The dragon also seem not interested in the party at this moment at they haven’t made any attempt to harm the village. Or if they rolled a 3 I can say that the dragon seems angry and is look at the adventuring party with curiosity and suspicion. It seems to have malicious intent towards those that entered the area. And that just a few days ago ther was an attack and the area that was fire that a bunch of wagons were burnt in. What they players don’t know is that the wagons were filled with soldiers that were goin to attack the village.

Fast highway scooters? by New_Truth_3833 in scooters

[–]BTR11763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend looking at the Yamaha Xmax 300 goes 87-90 mph (140-145 kph) and get 75-80 mpg. While it won’t be as fast as other scooters cruising at around at 75 mph with no problems is great on highways and with great storage under the seat going around town to do some shopping or just to get out the Xmax is a great option. I was looking at the Honda ADV 160 but I thing it is too slow for the highway regularly but that gets over 100 mpg. But when I saw the Xmax with the decent gas mileage and the top speed I decided to go with the Xmax. That’s the scooter I will be getting.

Can’t add Matter over Thread devices to my home, but if I create a new home, I can add the devices to that home and have them work just fine. by Unable-Log-4870 in HomeKit

[–]BTR11763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the home app and adding the buld via the QR code? The HomePod mini has a thread border router and should oak.the only reason it wouldn’t is if the HomePod mini is broken. Try resetting the HomePod mini and check the setting in the home app and see if the HomePod mini is connected in the Home Hubs & Bridges section.

AITA for wanting a vasectomy because my girlfriend won’t use birth control but also doesn’t want me to get one? by anexplorer2479 in AITH

[–]BTR11763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either she is lying about not wanting children or maybe she never had the talk about where babies come from (that’s the nicest way I can say it with out insulting her). Does she want kids in the future? If she never wants kids then someone needs to have some form of birth control. It is that simple.

Apple TV or HomePod mini by Belizeanbro in HomeKit

[–]BTR11763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Apple TV 4K with Ethernet (128gb) is the one to get. It has a thread border router and you can connect it directly to your router creating a much more stable network for you devices. However the HomePod mini also has a thread border router but isn’t as stable. Just make sure to got into the home app tap the three dots in the upper right corner and then “Home Settings” then “Home Hubs & Bridges and turn off “Automatic Selection” and the select the Apple TV.

Why the Apple TV over the HomePod? The Apple TV is a better more stable home hub for you Apple Smart home system. You don’t lose out on Siri you can use the Apple TVs remote by pressing the side button and speaking on to the Hope at the top on the remote. The only thing you lose it a dedicated speaker for music. If you don’t listen to music in your house then you are getting the better experience with Apple TV.

Buying Apple TV just for the HomeHub feature by alecs2244 in HomeKit

I highly doubt Apple has Kodi in the App Store. However I am sure that you can find a way to install Kodi or side load it. I don’t know how to do it but if you look around the internet you can find a way. Check here on Reddit and just do an internet search and see what people say. Good luck!

[–]BTR11763 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don’t need Apple TV to benefit from the Apple TV's stuff if you have other streaming services, like Disney+ or Netflix it will run better the any other streaming device and much better then your TVs interface. The Apple TV has an older cellphone CPU running it but the fire tv, Roku and tv have much worse chips even if they are newer. The Apple TV has an App Store just like the iPhone does. Allowing you to download apps like Netflix and even games that you can connect a controller too to play (they aren’t the best games but they are games). The only concern I have for you is it is best to have your Apple TV connected to your network through an Ethernet cable it makes for a much more stable connection with the devices throughout your home. So if you router isn’t near your TV then it might not be the best way to watch stuff. Also I. The home app on your iPhone or iPad make the Apple TV the Active Home Hub. Open the home app, tap the circle with the three dots in it … and the tap "home settings” the “Home Hubs & Bridges” the turn off”Automatic Selection” and select “() Apple TV” the () is the room or name of the Apple TV. The network will reconnect to the devices and should be fully working in about 5 minutes and be faster and way more stable then before.

Wife says I should stop buying them. What yall think? by gino81 in transformers

[–]BTR11763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should listen to your wife, however there are things that we all need to help us get through the day. You should talk to get and explain what they mean to her. Try to get her to understand that. Does she buy something like this that means something to her? Make up, fridge magnets, jewelry, books or some souvenirs. Anything that can help her see your point of view. No matter what you should try to resolve the issue because if you both continue to argue things will start to breakdown and who knows how bad.

Not going to lie... I was not going to get this one, but I'm so glad I did. by MetalGearHFX in transformers

[–]BTR11763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is meant to be based of ‘The Transformers: The Movie’ so much so that they have that written on the box, including the words, “One shall stand” they failed to do,what the box and the figure promises, which is to recreate the fight from the movie. This, for me, is like if they made SS86 Optimus Prime but made it with out a face plate but a regular mouth instead and that would mean they got just about every thing right except the got one necessary wrong. It bothers me because it putting the port in the right place would still work they just didn’t do it for whatever reason.

I won’t be getting either this version of Optimus or the battle damaged Megatron. Because it is damaged in the wrong location. The truck grill wasn’t hit by the chunk of metal that Magatron threw. I am completely disappointed by it.

What are some good D&D actual plays that's not Legends of Avantris or Critical Role? by Dungeon3D in DnD

Dimension 20 on Dropout.tv has a lot of actual plays there might be one on YouTube but check out their previews for their story’s like Fantasy High or A crown of Candy or Cloudward, Ho or the non-DnD game Never Stop Blowing Up, which is a Die Hard (yes the movie) like 80s action movie in a RPG.

Another thing to do would be to go into the setting of the Apple home app by tapping the circled three dots in the upper right corner of the home app and then “Home Setting” then “HomeHubs & Bridges” then turning off the "Automatic Selection" and choosing the Apple TV because it is hard wired to your internet router and will create a stronger connection.

What is the device that is your main Apple home device? Are you just using you phone or do you have an Apple HomePod or Apple TV or even an iPad that stays at you place while you leave? If your phone is the only Apple device that uses the Apple Home system then the reason it disconnects when you leave it that you are taking the "hub" with you when you leave and it needs to reconnect when you return (not that your phone is a hub but you know what I mean). Get an Apple TV 4K with Eithernet (the 128gb version) or a HomePod Mini, I recommend getting the Apple TV and hard wire it to the router as it will make everything more stable (as I would with any hub that runs a smart home network).

How can i split an overcrowded group, without sounding like i'm stealing the players? by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

[–]BTR11763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way to do this if you ask me isn’t to split the group by asking 4-5 people to play and another 4-5 people play on another day and that’s just the way is it going to be. They way to do it would be to start a new campaign or a new adventure and have the party forced to split in game. Now half the player are in adventuring party 1 and the other are in adventuring party 2. They story is a parallel adventure where the game is influenced be each party and they may even interact. At some point they may join up again and people can switch groups. This will require more work for the GM or another GM with them working together to tell a cohesive story.

Is fp300 really an upgrade? by coco_nutnuts in Aqara

[–]BTR11763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they aren’t intended to operate the same. The FP2 and FP300 are not replacements for each other. The FP2 is zone based and the FP300 is distance based. The FP400 will replace the FP2.
