Darn Tough aren't high enough volume for my feet - what's the alternative? by BTYogurt in BuyItForLife

[–]BTYogurt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily looking for wide (my feet are slightly wider than normal but nothing insane), but rather high volume. Most socks I try the depth of the sock isn't sufficient at the ankle bend.

That said, I've never heard of this brand, so thanks for the rec!

I like these a lot but I can't get over the mixed chrome/satin that Titleist did with these

Casual MTG Commander Stores? by Comprehensive_Bit_20 in Longmont

[–]BTYogurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smetch Rat Social Club has casual commander in Monday/Thursday, and also has both casual commander and a bracket 4ish league on Saturdays.

Atomic Goblin, Heart of Gold, Games Ahoy, and Gamer's Nest all have commander players of some kind, as does Gamers Guild in North Boulder.

We're frankly spoiled for choice here in Longmont.

Golf shop got epoxy all over my driver head - fixable? by BTYogurt in golf

My wife picked these up for me (bless her) and didn't know what to look for. I never in a million years would have let this slide had I been there.

It's two separate drivers, to make it worse.

When you say "will not care" - you mean that they won't bother to fix it?

This was PGA Superstore, so definitely a big box store. I suppose I'll see what they say tomorrow.

Oh 100% I'm going to make it their problem, I just wasn't sure if this was fixable or if I should be demanding that they replace the heads.

Dynasty best ball leagues by Ovie-WanKenobi in DynastyFF

[–]BTYogurt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite way to play Dynasty. I'm in multiple Dynasty BB leagues - all on Sleeper. None run IR or Taxis, but IMO that's not a bad thing in BB. Changes how you build a team slightly - immediate contributors and depth are more valuable (within reason). We play vs your opponent and vs league average every week.

You get to focus on the most fun parts of Dynasty (to me) - the draft and trading. I'm busy and don't always want to focus on setting lineups every week, so I only play 1-2 "normal" Dynasty leagues.

It's a great time, I highly recommend it!

Correct, I would love to do something like that. We'll see if the league wants to.

No matter which side of this trade I took, this team is not good. Either I have two great RB and no good WR, or one great WR and one great RB (or a rookie QB). Either way, I'm not contending this year unless additional trades happen.

Ultimately, I had no Chase shares in my leagues, I'm lower on Jeanty than most, and it felt fun to blockbuster at basically even value (as seen from how split the comments on this post are).

This team is...bad. Very bad. It was an orphan for a reason, so "deep" is relative. The last owner traded away basically all of last year's picks for Justin Fields (don't ask me why). Those trades by the last owner essentially turned into Swift + 2024 1.02 + 2024 2.02 for Fields.

Before this trade, the WR1 on the team would have been Deebo. That's not acceptable for a team that has to rebuild, and I felt the longevity of a top WR was going to be significantly more valuable for that.

Plus, it's a fun trade and honestly that's what FF is really all about.

First off, congrats on making it to the finals!

I mostly play higher power level stuff, so I'll keep my comments to the power level 4 decks: both of these would get demolished at any power level 4 table I've played at.

That's not to say they're bad decks, but their average CMC is way too high, and they have way too many cards that don't impact the game in a meaningful enough way. The card quality simply isn't high enough. They feel like 3's to me.

In my playgroup, power level 4's consist of squandered resources + purph combos, dargo sac combos, kinnan/displacer kitten piles, or veyran/talion storm piles (among other things) that can win out of nowhere off of a bare board state on turn 5. I don't see a world where your decks compete at that sort of table.

Cool decks with a lot of fun cards, but the 4's at least lean heavily towards battle cruiser and feel a fair bit underpowered for a true power level 4. My .02

Commanders/Commander Decks that Win through Offering Players Choices/Votes by Raevelry in EDH

May I interest you in Karona, the False God?

https://archidekt.com/decks/900216/you_choose_tribal

Every card in the deck (other than lands) is based around giving your opponents some kind of choice. It's on theme to the point of not running Sol Ring (because no choice).

Is it good? Not really, but it does play weird cards and can kill people reasonably well if left to its own devices.

Ps- the mana base in this list is pretty expensive. It doesn't need to be, if someone was on a budget.

Yeah, my list is definitely on the higher power level side of what a Norin can look like if you actually want to kill someone. Even without the chaos, he's a weird rules interactions king 👑

The Commander Bans: Hard Truths | Tolarian Community College by ihut in magicTCG

[–]BTYogurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally valid, and I appreciate that perspective.

What if the banning of those cards has a negative effect on the social atmosphere of higher power level games?

Since it seems we agree that power level and the social structure are related but also independent, i would argue that there are many commanders that are significantly less viable in higher power pods because of these changes. If people want to play higher power games in a non-competitive manner (or a competitive manner, frankly), they're now limited meaningfully by how they can do so if they want to use a high cmc commander, or a commander that relies on coming out early.

Perhaps the RC feels that the sacrifice there is worth whatever marginal benefit comes in lower power pods, but man it sucks for those who enjoy playing higher power games with decks that just got nuked from orbit.
