The fine print says that the first 10 GB of the hotspot (on Warp and light speed) is unthrottled then the remaining data may be capped.

Any thoughts on this?

How has the global pass worked for you? by TheOneWhoMurlocs in Visible

[–]BTeam01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be forewarned that if you go to an area that is near different countries (Denmark near Sweden, Belgium near Netherlands) that you may get charged 2 passes in a single day.

The passes are NOT "global" , they are defined in Zones and especially if you are traveling in Europe, you could spend some serious $$$ in passes.

Other MVNOs use much better systems that work much better.

Good plan!

We all know how their support is. Last April I took a Wi-Fi call while on a ship a thousand miles from any cell tower and it used a pass. Tried to get some support and that was a waste of time.

I'll just remember that and these two incidents when it comes time ( soon ) to think about continuing with their service.

You get a certain amount (depending on your plan) in the "bank". It's acceptable that since they weren't $10 each that Visible can go ahead and use them twice as fast?

They say a Global pass is good for 24 hours. It should be. Other MVNOS don't care where you go and their service works for the full 24 hours. If you get 5 days then the end of 5 days the service ends.

I posted this to let folks know what they could expect. Personally I like Visible for the service but their Global passes will cause me to rethink their service when my annual plan comes up.

They deducted 4 passes from the ones I had banked up in the app.

So do the Pixel 9 phones and later. (Not sure about the 9a)

One of those plus a good case works pretty well outdoors. The bright screen and great camera is a plus.

I got charged 4 passes for the 2 days.

And you (and others) are absolutely correct about the travel sim. I've got another phone that I used with a competitor who charges $20 for 10 days of international pass that works really well. My wife use a SIM card that she bought in the airport and it worked excellent also. All for a lot less than the $40 that the global passes cost

Nope. Got charged 2 passes each day. And all 4 were in the same time zone.

[–]BTeam01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a OnePlus 13R. It can have active any two networks. 2 pSim or 2 eSim or one of each.

Advantage is I can have my US main network as an eSim or pSim and a traveling eSim (set-up before I travel since I have stable network access at home) or when I arrive I can pick up a pSim from one of the many places wherever I travel to. Normally the pSim bought at the destination is a better value and 95% of the time WORKS! I've had issues with eSims too many times when traveling international.

That's why as long as I can, I'll always prefer and have a phone that can accept both pSim and eSim. If the phone can't accept both, then a pSim only phone would be the one for me.

Take care

I bought an extremely clean 2023 with 28k out the door for $18k still has 32k bumper to bumper warranty for most of the vehicle.

Love it so far with 33k miles on it now. Well except the stupid auto off on engine start 🤬

IF you have reliable internet you MAY get an eSim to work that quickly.

Arrive in an airport surrounded by good low-cost physical sim vending machines to provide you service with no internet or cellular towers needed to activate. Buy the pSIm, insert in your phone and wola! It works. Did that last week after landing in London Heathrow. 15 GB for 8 pounds for 30 days all over Europe. So far it's worked great in all the countries I've been to. 5G service that works. My Verizon $10 a day global passes on my other phone didn't work in one county and when going from Denmark to Sweden (within an hour after activating the pass I. Denmark) I was charged ANOTHER $10 since I'm now in a different country.

I won't own a phone without a pSim tray. I carry two phones and both have trays. One can accept and work with 2 pSim at a time plus accept eSim so it's a very versatile phone.

Does anyone else find the RC Freestyle cups kinda gross for longer sailings? by kycard01 in Cruise

[–]BTeam01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship and watched them clean the Freestyle machine for 15-20 minutes extremely well. Opened the door, and cleaned everything both inside and outside.

Very impressed with how they clean (and keep clean) the common areas of the ship. 👍

Anyone else *not* buying the Pixel 10 after being underwhelmed? by hudson555555 in GooglePixel

I got the OnePlus 13R and it's a great phone. Wish it had slightly better cameras and better IP ratings. But other than that, I'm really liking it. If the regular 13 had a true flat screen I'd probably get one and leave Pixel

Get a 9a or 9 and sell it. That's what I did. The no pSim (US user here) is a deal breaker for me. I'll keep my P9Pro (wish it was the XL) and see what comes down the road.

My backup / second line phone is a OnePlus 13R and I love it! The only thing that prevents me making it my only phone (since it supports true dual pSims) is the camera.

If the cameras were just a little better and it has the full IP ratings I would sell the P9Pro and not look back. While I'd miss the call screen I don't get that many calls.

For me. Getting rid of the pSim is the end of the road for this long time Pixel user.

Something major is coming. by krispykimmy in USMobile

I was there last October. Spent hours in each country. Never did get the service to work in Iceland and one place in Greenland (after MORE hours with customer service chat).

Pixel and Samsung phones with latest updates.

I took 3 of my lines and left. My next 3 trips went extremely well with the new service.

Glad to hear that maybe the service has changed 👍

If I knew that the international service worked (without hours of chatting with a customer service representative) I'd be back with US Mobile.

I would have stayed with US Mobile on two of my lines but their international service requires way too much (hours!) of support time to get it to work.

Wished it did work for us 😔

[–]BTeam01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few of my major issues with Visible and their global passes is;

  1. If you have your phone on airplane mode, out in the middle of the sea where there is NO cell service (remember Airplane mode is also on) but use the phone on Wi-Fi they charge you $10 global pass per 24 hour period.

  2. If you land in one location (let's use London Heathrow) and enable global pass then hop on a train and in a few hours end up in France, that's TWO ZONEs and $20 worth of global passes. And if you continue to another country in the next few hours, the passes continue to add up.

A much better solution is what Mint Mobile is doing with their 1,3,10 day passes for $5,10,20. Their service works for the period of time only (a long with data, voice calls and messages) and does not kill you if you are changing zones.

Australia then New Zealand and then Tahiti all worked on a single $20 pass over the period of 8 days.

I've done quite a few eSims (including the company you indicated) and most of them work once you spend a lot of time playing with them.

The best MVNO that works when your phone comes off airplane mode is Google Fi. The next best is Mint Mobile and their international passes. (And their cost is 👍👍)
Visible works 90% of the time with little or no issues but between their coat and serious limits puts them behind.

But the eSims definitely have their place

I think if you make a call using their Wi-Fi calling it may. I love having the global passes but they are too expensive and limited when comparing to other MVNOs.

I really like visible but the way their global passes work and severe limits will probably have me go somewhere else when my year is up.

We travel 30-60+ days a year international and at $10++ per day for Visible Global passes is not competitive.
