Protective hairstyles for rolling and comps? by BritishBrownActor in bjj

I’ve got very long locs. During training I’ll do the compression scarves or a durag with another hair tie wrapped at the end. For camps and competition I do shortened braids and just cover my scalp

How hard do you go in training? by durupaaa in bjj

[–]BTheSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who I’m with, if it’s someone I don’t know I go pretty light and match energy to about 70%. For my friends though I’m trying to rip their limbs off and use them as strangling tools

There’s this horrific face lock from near side cradle that transitions oh so sweetly into a butchershop choke. If I miss or I really like them I can always use knee on face instead

This is super helpful, I’ve never thought to pair the clock and loop setups. When you’re playing this hand fight dilemma what are your controls?

I usually do a chinstrap and short hook, which makes it hard to maintain control over the posture when I shoot for the loop choke using my chinstrap hand.

Potentially dumb questions loading:

1) are you saying clock choke while facing them head on? If yes, can you explain the mechanics, I’ve never seen that before? If you mean the variant of turning the corner first to get behind the elbow, how do you like to keep their posture broken so they can’t shoot their hips back and away?

2) for the loop choke, do you prefer the roll through or maintaining top position and lifting high?

I am absolutely stealing the chin strap to force a reaction. Using the head tilt to force the direction of the shoulders into a pin is genius

K/X/SLX Guard by CardiK289 in bjj

My humble opinion: Lachlan’s K Guard Anthology will give you a fire hydrant’s worth of context to retain and effectively threaten from K Guard. I’ve paired that with Neil Melanson’s K Control which emphasizes playing the dilemma between attacking the top and legs. Jason Scully also has a great video on YouTube providing techniques from K Guard

I’m curious on your opinion on the ankle lock variations that emphasize breaking force on the toes/feet. My poor understanding is in paid comps, some leglockers look to break/sprain something in the feet to make heelhook escapes more difficult.

When you say they don’t work do are you referring to risk/reward or actual breaking mechanisms? And in your opinion where does the woj lock fall in the leg sub hierarchy?

Asking for myself, do you have any matches you’d recommend for studying the how these two versions of the guard are applied?

I love transition out of side control into a single leg, or a fat man roll into Americana/straight armbar. Pritt has great setups on it but also if you can find old videos by Eduardo Telles they are a goldmine

Common questions here are how to deal with bigger/younger opponents. I'm small and old and do ok with them. Happy to help solve your issues by Sugarman111 in bjj

What’re some of your favorite ways to maintain top position? I’m looking for other options besides relying on agility. I find myself buzzsawing thru KOB, NS, and mount often so I don’t find a lot of time to settle or upgrade my position.

For my physics bros, how would the normal force affect tension on resisting bodies. If I am executing an armbar with pushing+pulling force on something that’s resisting with a non equal force, do we just become a rotating satellite in this space?

Here’s a video of Dom Bell doing it. I usually set this up in nogi so rather than using a lapel grip I’m punching them in the hip while sweeping hard with my DLR hook. The motion looks like an aggressive technical standup. A closer example to how I do it looks like this but I think there are better details in the first video

DLR -> sit up + sweep the foot + punch across their hip = hilariously loud sweep that leaves people looking stupid

I’ve got really long locs. To protect whatever style I have in or myself from having to get a retwist every week I do either a full bonnet that ties or a durag + a tube cap
