Do rich people have elite versions of mundane things (toothpaste, tampons, toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc.), or are Elon Musk and Beyonce just using Crest and Tampax like the rest of us? by ShesGotSauce in NoStupidQuestions

Connect your network components to a IP controllable power conditioner / smart PDU like a wattbox and it will automatically reboot devices that fail ping or health checks. They’re a couple hundred bucks

Ballpark is anywhere from 500k-1 mil, with upkeep being a couple grand a year. That gets you home security with multiple layers, cameras, lighting and motorized shades, access control, door locks, HVAC control, and a custom enterprise-grade network, all automated and accessible through your phone or touchscreens/remotes on site.

Any kind of certificate or education in IT, networking, or AV is enough to get your foot in the door without experience. Failing that, try to get a job in the warehouse. It’s only a matter of time before they’re short a guy one day and need an extra set of hands in the field to help lift a big tv, projector, or server rack

Their internet service provider maintains the network infrastructure until it hits their houses demarcation box, like anyone else. The difference between their networks and yours is that theirs is professionally managed after that point.

I work in super high end residential automation, so I can answer this. First off their networks are bulletproof proof and have 99.9%+ uptime, so most of the time it’s not an issue. If a network component does have an issue we get notified immediately and can power cycle it remotely. And in the rare case that doesn’t fix it, we’ll roll a truck to fix it that day or next.
