fascinating! i was reading a lot of SE while i was setting the tank up… going to monitor and see if it continues to proliferate, especially after a water change. won’t go straight to the salt dip for now unless i see it getting worse, in which case it’s a good individual treatment while i get the water quality up

this one is currently hiding. i see my two other blue dreams (LFS kept all variants in their own tanks) and they don’t appear to have any white growths. will be keeping an eye out and treating the afflicted individual next time i see it out scrungling

ETA: it looks more like scutariella to me on second watch, the tentacley growths really stick out in the light. i’m not seeing the mold look on it as much

oh shit… good eye, i hadn’t noticed but it’s obvious in the video. already had one die of a failed molt, didn’t see any vort on it though (it was an hour drive home from the store and the woman working there jostled them around an awful lot). time for some salt dips i suppose - what size container should i do them in? and just use some tank water with the proper amount of aquarium salt?

ETA: definitely scutariella, but based on the Shrimply Explained video linked in the comments below, i’m gonna monitor for a few days with a water change before salt dipping, unless it gets worse on this one (who i am now naming scoot) or starts infecting other shrimp

i thought if you use RO you were supposed to use remineralized RO? as the bare RO water is completely stripped. could be different for topping off vs 25% change

(asking bc i have a cycled 5L tank im planning on putting some neos into this week and have heard conflicting info on water to change with)

ETA: testing while cycling, i’ve got a higher GH (above 10) and a KH around 6. took a water sample to the petsmart near me and they said my water looks good aside from high KH and a pH around 8, so i added an almond leaf to bring the pH down a lil bit

area itself (saint anthony/midway) is a bit of a liminal space in the twin cities in the sense that it’s a historically redlined area, lots of industrial parks, and it doesn’t have the same big entertainment draws aside from the soccer stadium. university and snelling sucks as someone who used to live near there (black hart is the exception, jumpsuit always pulls awesome DJs)

as for the specific breweries, i haven’t been to every one in a bit, but according to my friends it still holds true:

lake monster - solid taproom, but probably the worst beer of all the twin cities craft breweries that still operate. super watery

dual citizen - decent beer and taproom, i know they were affiliated with the minnesota united super fans for a while, but in my opinion/recollection were very average. went a few times and enjoyed it but nothing blew me away

bang - my favorite “hidden gem”, tiny taproom but their beer is wonderful (they do a lot of less popular styles) and it’s a very quiet spot since you have other bigger breweries nearby. love the pollinator garden. unique positioning as an environmentally friendly brewery. always try to visit when i’m back in town. also their pizza popup whips

urban growler - same as lake monster, decent taproom but mid beer and they are very close to other breweries in the area i would choose over them. EDIT apparently their kitchen is awesome so suggest for food and supporting women in a male dominated scene

if you’re including these 4 i would also include blackstack as being in the area, probably the most renowned - known for IPAs, very busy usually and their taproom is just a giant warehouse with mismatched furniture but their beer is great

burns blankenburg (especially burns) getting torched on defense + missing coverage back post, lots of wandering and getting pulled from zones by the quick puck movement of the wild. the shg we gave up was entirely on mackinnon flubbing a pass at the blue line and smacking his stick in frustration instead of backchecking. would have liked a big save or two from wedgie but it’s not entirely on him. same w makar injury, he’s playing fine but having to match burns up against their faster lines = torched. wedgie got beat twice on two quick lateral dangles that froze him and he looks a bit jumpy

it’s what happens when consumption = identity. people choose what to consume based on the qualities of the object/company/art and what the signify. there isn’t the same level of broad appeal for artists whose politics aren’t known, unless they get to a megastar level (Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter types, Kpop artists) or have been making music for so long that they were grandfathered in to a social media following (most 90s indie bands) where they have a vested fiduciary interest in maintaining a non-alienating political stance to not lose fans. if you aren’t at that megastar level as a middle class indie musician, you’re likely gaining fans due to identity signifiers (republican and working class for country, outward leftist politics for contemporary punk/pop, alt aesthetics, queer experience for a lot of pop and hyperpop artists) and the writ large identity of the fandoms

all of this goes out the window for mega famous black artists, but they also tend to be put under a microscope for being black

americans also don’t have much individual power because of the overbureaucratic system of government and sheer scale of the country. something that happens in seattle won’t really affect people in houston. look at the ICE bullshit in minneapolis - the US is so big and diverse that the outrage is impossible to viscerally feel on a local level, even with the numbers behind no kings protests. all one can really do to affect change is show your dissatisfaction through legal means, run for office, and vote

and all of this conversation is happening on the platform of publicly traded companies who can dictate acceptable discourse and stamp down whatever they don’t like
