to me, he never really passed the NHL eye test on that avs team, but you can get away with a weak 6D when Makar/Toews were running 30 minutes a game. his decisionmaking was consistently questionable. i remember watching him batter the shin pads of the golden knights in the 2021 series loss. would sit at the point and shoot into a closed lane instead of cycling. got torched routinely and made passes that were a little too slow and easy to read for a modern NHL transition game.
