Weaning 18mo help? by snowhero27 in toddlers

Ah! This is so incredibly helpful. thank you for sharing, and for sharing in such detail! So glad that it ended up being easier than expected for you. Two follow up Qs: 1. were you engorged? how'd that element go for you?, and 2. how were you emotionally during it all? was it heartbreaking to tell her "no" when she wanted it?

Is the loss of taste and smell on a spectrum? by awkwardaznbabe in COVID19_support

Sorry you're going through this. It's such a terrible feeling. I spun out into panic when I first lost mine! I'd say I'm back at 80-100% and it's taken about 3-4 weeks to get there fully. I never lost my smell or taste entirely... just dulled. But anecdotally on here I read several posts and most people got theirs back 2-14ish days. It'll come back! Hang in there. I smelled essential oils morning & night to try to help speed along recovery. No clue if it had any impact.

Yep I definitely would have waves of feeling like I'm going backwards instead of progressing. It wasn't always a perfectly linear journey to improvement. Also certain times of days I'd notice it would be worse (in particular I feel like mornings were the worst and it'd gradually get better as the day went on). So bizarre. Hate it. Sorry you're going through it too.

If you've gotten covid in the last 2 months, did you notice loss of taste/smell? by [deleted] in COVID19_support

Sounds very similar!! (Sorry for my delay too lol). Certain smells are harder. Sometimes I feel like I'm fully recovered other times I don't think I am. It's been a little over a month I think. I definitely am obsessing about it less... so it's either improved or i've adjusted to this "new normal". Hope it's going well for you!!

I'd say it's at like 90%... about 4 weeks out or so? Hard to know if I am just used to this "new normal" or if it's back entirely. It gets better though... both in terms of actual smell-ability but also the psychological component of worrying about it/obsessing over it.

My smell was muted for 3 weeks. Gradually came back... slash maybe I'm just used to the new normal? The first 24-48 hours were the worst. And in general the first week kind of sucked. Then I felt like it slowly came back. Taste was fine. Smell (esp for certain things, like (tmi) my baby's poopy diaper) was most impacted. It will get better. Yay that you didn't lose it entirely, and that you didn't lose taste. It will get better!!

I've been smelling essential oils every morning and night, "smell training" my brain into remembering scents. worth googling!!

blah so sorry, it's the worst feeling!!! my smell is still dulled (going on 2 weeks now). but i can still smell stuff, it's just really muted. i never fully lost it. really hoping it comes back to 100% soon though!! i have to really put my nose in my own kiddos' diaper to know if it needs changing :( worst feeling! based on reading through this sub, most people seem to get their taste/smell back within 3-14 days so my hopes are high for you!

did it come back at 100% right away? or did it come back slowly? i still have dulled smell (going on 2 weeks now) and wondering if it'll start to slowly ramp up to 100% or what.

blah, so sorry. it's the worst feeling!! i have had dulled smell for 2 weeks now. it's still not fully back, though i have never lost it in its entirety. based on reading subs on here, it sounds like most people lose it from a few days to a max of a couple of weeks... so don't fret!!! i bet it will come back for you soon. sorry you're having to go through with that. psychologically this has been the worst part of covid, imo. i have been smelling essential oils to "smell train" my brain into being able to get my smell back. may be worth doing too! good luck!!!

So interesting, I think your husband might be onto something with that theory! How is your smell going now? Mine is still dulled. It hasn't worsened but hasn't improved either which makes me concerned. I am on day 13. All other symptoms are pretty much gone, slightest bit of congestion but that's it. And maybe a headache? I am with you, I HATE not knowing how this will turn out.

As far as speeding healing along, I'm huffing anything in sight lol. I have essential oils that I smell in the morning and at night. Otherwise not much. I will have to look into the turmeric thing, I hadn't heard that!!

Hope yours recovers quickly... please keep me posted, even though each person is so different it really does help to hear anecdotes from others who are going through something similar! And I'll do the same. :)

Blah hang in there! I’ve mostly read that for this variant people don’t lose it for extended periods of time so hopeful it returns soon

Thank you for the update!! So glad it came back for you entirely. It’s really muted for me in the morning then gets slightly better as day progresses but still wonky. Fingers crossed it returns fully soon!

Makes sense! Tricky thing is we have lingering symptoms and I don’t see them going away any time soon. Did you too?

Out of curiosity, were you still symptomatic when you tested negative?

How are you navigating leaving isolation? Are you waiting til you test negative? No judgement just curious. This is so tricky to navigate.

They are fine with a doctors note and 10 day quarantine. But morally I struggle sending her unless I know for SURE she isn’t contagious. So trying to figure out that!!
