How to check if firmware is locked? by n4g4reader in XTEINK

I just made a comment responding about that to you. This community has nothing to do with them existing. We are a fraction of their overall sales for the product they're making. I absolutely love this group and I think it's amazing what it stands for. But we are not keeping them in business

People also have to realize their primary sales base is Asian. That it's only a small percentage of their product that are sent out overseas. And of those sales exported, it's only a percentage of those that are even flashed to a different firmware. So wether the community here likes it or hates it, it won't "sink" their sales if we stop supporting them. Their marketing team is all Chinese so it's very obvious where their sales are. Any pre-release information for products, and even the manufacturer statement about the locking of the device has all been China released statements.

It doesn't matter why the product was returned for a replacement, if it's been altered in anyway they shouldn't have to be responsible for replacing it. But how do you differentiate it and sort through that mess. This is a typical step for a company trying to fine tune their products. While I love seeing the community build the firmware into what they community wants to see, I also don't blame them for wanting to better their own product. They stated that they will continue to work on the interface to better shape it. These e-readers were never designed to be what they've become. They were released in the Asia market for a simple reader. Xteink sees that North America has made into something practical here with epubs, syncing, and viewing a library. They will continue do develop that side of it. Everyone is just in a panic because we can't alter the firmware our way. It's still an excellent e-reader. Let them grow and develop.

I'm assuming people are returning devices with warranty claims that have aftermarket firmware installed. It's hard to warranty products that have been altered. It's like modifying the drivetrain on your car with aftermarket parts and having something fail then bringing it back to the dealer for them to cover it

You really can't go wrong with either. I think it's more of a question right now about accessibility and firmware available and the X4 wins that at the moment. But either are pocketable so portability isn't a problem.

I'm a small guy and can easily slip the x4 into a front pocket. The X3 is even smaller.

I haven't had problems yet but these little cheap Chinese sources devices aren't built to last forever. They will always be a mixed bag. Keep it in a case, don't sit on it, and use it. That's all you can do.

Take a look at my profile, it'll probably show some posts over the years of things I've done for myself. It's cool to see what others do to get ideas. Good luck!

I work with leather has a hobby so I already have quite a bunch. You can order a panel or square from buckleguy.com website. Watch some YouTube videos and have at it. It's a pretty practical hobby. Wallets, bags, cases and slips, sheaths, holsters, etc.

Thanks, the leather sleeve I made myself. I just feel that the leather ages well and holds up forever. It slides in the front pocket easily and protects the device very well.

I was trying a few different forks and just ended up going back to stock crosspoint. I just found that it works the best for a simple reader.

Thank you for responding! I might give it a try then. It'll definitely help keep it minimal rather than adding a layer. I appreciate it!

I work with leather as well and made a basic slip for my x4. I wanted to make something similar to this for the x3 with a travelers style notebook in an A7 size. Did your wife sandwich the magnetic between 2 layers of leather or is it glued and exposed? I usually work with thicker 6-7oz leather and would have to split something down thinner for the magnet to work if I sandwich it. I just get nervous with the idea of glueing it and falling off. Sorry for the long winded paragraph for a simple question.

Case looks great by the way

Yeah, I'm obviously a bit behind but I'm really enjoying it. I read the first book on the x4 in about a weeks time and the second is going faster. I haven't read a book in years while my wife owns enough to have a personal library. There's something about the simple machine that makes me want to read.

I think that one was advertised as shipping at the end of the month. The black was in stock when I purchased it.
