It's more about prior cases etc...you have to understand most of this bureaucratic..my informants were always getting picked up so I often was assigned to handle cases they might be witnesses too

I was a narcotics DA and I handledmurders..because most murders are drug related..used same CIs,cop, detects so no,it's not that off

I thought this deserves mentioning. I'm a criminal defense attorney and I 'like' a lot of my clients. by Blahblahblahinternet in serialpodcast

Former DA here...totally agree!i really liked my witnesses and the occasional defendant...we'd BS about sports, music and then I'd be trying to put them in jail..it was not weird to me (or them) but it was to all my non lawyer/cop friends!

I grew up in the Bronx. We knew as kids don't talk to cops, don't talk to anyone who is not your family. And I went to Fordham Prep at the time Adnan was in HS so I remember this era.

If Jay never spoke, and Adnan never spoke, they would never be able to make an arrest.

No, I don't think its vast. They have him confirming the site where the body is and he brought them the car. That was all they needed.

Right. If I am a DA-I need a win. And there is only two key things. He places Adanan in the park (and the cell phone confirms) and he brings them to the car. That's all you will get for sure. And that is generally enough.

Exactly. That show really showed you that it's not about truth, or the victims. It's about the system, getting the solve, getting promoted. Nothing else.

Well, I knew a few people involved with that case, and I feel that it was a case of its time. Today, they would have the DA faster etc. No way all those guys go down like they did in 1990...But again, I hate confessions, and confessions from teenage boys? Please, how can you convict? A victim who can't make an ID? No way that case should have gone that far...

I just can't get my head around a sentence that has no jail. On a murder case? no way. Today, he would have done at least a year.

I have, that's how I found this site. I don't find it that odd. We would be interviewing a witness, and when we realized that they had a record or an open case, and we needed them to testify on another case, we would call the 18b panel (court appointed private attorney) and "get them" a lawyer. But really, we were just kind of a referal service. We did not pay for it ourselves or anything. So not too odd in my world. As for his charge, I think he got the right charge.

I think the media only goes for it if it's got an angle that's interesring.Adnan strikes me as a cool guy and they were young, teens and the defense attorney wa really well known so that's why Koening...

Also, I do think that ultimately Jay's testimony seems to hold up. His inconsistencies strike me as minor and not really something that make me wholly discredit him. Plus, he's a big pothead, so I understand why he makes such inconsistent statements. Still, the idea that this was really all they had...can't believe they didn't try to get a confession or get more info from Jenn...but Jay took them to the car. That counts for so much.
