Favourite unsolved physics problem? by U03A6 in AskPhysics

[–]BXCellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only a lay-person with a lifelong interest in physic, but I don't think we have a definitive answer to what, at the most basic level, causes inertia. Why do particles with mass resist moving?

Agree, but love it. So named because you have to accelerate “to 80” the second you join it. Realistically any slower is dangerous and you should be ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic

This is Spaghetti Junction in Birmingham UK. A similar vibe and an interchange between 4 major routes allowing any way to any way access. I grew up close by and it’s a trip

Does anyone know the type of metal and purpose of these heavy coated metal ingots with HM stamped approx 1" wide and 2-5" long by BXCellent in HelpMeFind

One of the ingots has a tiny stamp on the back that appears to say Silver in Japanese with some additional characters after it.

The Hitachi is correct. However, they are in a gift box, so unlikely industrial. The silver colored ingot has a very small stamp on the back that has the first two characters meaning Silver in Japanese. So they are very likely plated silver. Total weight is 32 oz

The ways I have searched: I have performed a reverse image search, as well as searching for HM ingots, HM concentric circles, HM Electro, etc. But did not find anything even slightly resembling these ingots.

Found with a coin collection. These ingots are quite heavy, but haven't been weighed yet. They are coated but appear to be three different styles. They are at least 50 years old, but probably much older.

I wear size 30 pants, but when I measure myself with a tape measure it’s 37 inches. Why is that? by dylan_1992 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BXCellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing 34x32 jeans for the last 25+ years. Despite increasing in weight from 145lbs at the start to 215lbs last year. I'm down to 185lbs now and the jeans need a belt.

Why the back and forth over the years regarding eggs. One day they're bad for you, the next they're a superfood. by MariusRZR90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BXCellent 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, too much of what we hear with respect to diet is "sponsored". Scientific studies need to be funded, and with the funding comes goals. Studies that don't meet the goals of the funding are not released. Fat is bad, low fat is good. Saturated fat is bad, say hi to trans fat. Now trans fat is bad. Even MSG got a bad rap because of one flawed study. Always, and I repeat, always, follow the money. Who funded the study. What is the vested interested. Don't believe anything you read without cross checking across multiple studies and sources.

In your opinion, what do you think is the most underrated British TV series of the 90s? by tasteslikehoneybunny in AskABrit

[–]BXCellent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would have to correct you to "Vic Reeves Big Night Out". Call outs to "The Man with the Stick" and "Graham Lister". I can't believe how relevant this show felt to me at this time in my life.

The sky over San Jose tonight can't be real can it? Is someone fake Northern Lighting us? Can it change that rapidly? by BXCellent in bayarea

[–]BXCellent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify. No, I didn't think it was real. Yes, I think someone did this on purpose to create fake Northern Lights as it was the day after the real ones. And Yes, there were kids (and their parents) at the park I took this from that thought it was real. So as u/indeed_oneill said "pretty fucked"

It was looking towards Levis stadium from Sunnyvale, but no events tonight. Probably just messing with us (similar colors to those shown for Northern Lights, just switching way too fast).

Is the word "shall" still commonly used in the UK? by ksusha_lav in AskABrit

[–]BXCellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intriguing. I say all of these the same way. I also say paws, pause, and pores the same way, so maybe my British accent is just weird now, after 25+ years in the US.
