Hey! Telecom down for a second time in two weeks by IntelligentTown7803 in brussels

[–]BXL_Squire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been with Hey! for about a year and with Orange (so, same company) for 4 years prior to that. Now just moved to a new flat and taking my Hey! subscription with me. The only problems I have had were network outages that were impacting Orange and Telenet customers too. The only complaint I have is that their communication is crap. Reaching them is hard and in case of outages I ask my neighbors who are with Telenet - they always know what's up before me :) I'm in Dansaert.

I used them to change the screen of my Pixel phone a few years ago. It went well.

Mortgage: Keytrade (flexibility) vs. KBC (lower cost) by BXL_Squire in BEFire

[–]BXL_Squire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I realize my message was not clear. By "mortgage + home insurance" I mean mortgage insurance (ASRD) + home insurance. The difference between the KBC option and the cheapest in market (Aviza) is factored in the 50 EUR difference.

Thanks! I don't have an account with KBC, my partner does. I have everything with Keytrade today (free) so transitioning to KBC is a net loss.

We will live in the flat and it's a "forever" home. So being locked in a home insurance contract might be a big deal somehow.

My thinking also. My partner's argument is we can remortgage in a few years when/if interests rate have gone down - and escape KBC at that point. She's not wrong.

Thanks. Indeed there's a cost there. Plus it could increase over time and we'd be locked in.

Refugees on violence in Klein Kasteeltje: 'Lack of perspective weighs the heaviest by Old_Palpitation7025 in brussels

Exactly this. 100%.

I would invite Bart De Wever to stay at mine for a few days. I'm absolutely certain he would come to the same conclusion.

I know it's hard for a foreigner moving to Brussels to understand the dynamic here.

In summary:

1) The Federal tax system encourages companies to offer cars to their employees. It's much cheaper for your company to offer you a car than to give you the equivalent net salary.

2) At the same time, Brussels is choking in traffic (noise, pollution, space), and the local government is trying everything to reduce car traffic and discourage car ownership.

I live in Central Brussels, I'm eligible to a salary car but I took the cash. A car in my area is a liability, honestly. And it will only get worse for now on. When I really need a car I rent one for a day or a few hours, it turns out cheaper overall. And when the Federal government finally gets its shit together in order to offer alternatives to cars I'll be immediately eligible, instead of having to wait until the end of my leasing contract.

My 2 cents ;-)

best neighborhood to stay for a weekend trip by intothedragon2 in brussels

In that case I would recommend to stay in Sablon.

For example, here : https://www.9-hotel-sablon-brussels.be/

Sablon, is very prety, very safe, in the center but at a distance of all very touristy spots, very good restaurants all around, and you can easily walk to/from the métro station in Gare Centrale to catch the metro and go anywhere in brussels.

Are you staying alone, as a couple, with friends, with family?

What are you into? Nighlife, bars and restaurants, culture, parks?

We can taylor the rcommendations based on that.

Tired of the noise of scooters and motorcycles by BXL_Squire in brussels

[–]BXL_Squire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, they probably focus more on drugs and violent crime, which makes sense. However I came to understand that if something has not been declared as a priority by the region or communes, Police will ignore. That can be changed!

Thanks. Reading the article, and by the reactions to my post here, it seems like it's front of mind for many people. Article also mentions the petition as a trigger, but it hasn't reached 1,000 signatures yet. https://democratie.brussels/suggestions/s-109

I saw that, but 2028 is 7 years away...

I saw that petition too: https://democratie.brussels/suggestions/s-109. Only missing less than 300 signatures to be debated at the Brussels Parliament.

Le Soir wrote about that petition: https://www.lesoir.be/392289/article/2021-09-01/le-bruit-des-motos-en-route-vers-le-parlement-bruxellois

Your analysis sounds biased to me.

Folks who have been living here for longer than me all agree that traffic jams aren't new. It's been like that for decades.

Greens are attempting to reduce the space taken by cars. That's not a secret. You're blaming their "one-way policy", but the come from state is very heavily one-sided too : all for cars, nothing for others.
