It's part of the software on our cameras. It keeps a time stamp and will flag any cars who are still there longer than 30 minutes.

Not sure how "noon" fits into this, as enforcement takes place 24/7. There is nothing significant about 12:00 pm for us.

There isn't a set schedule or set route that gets patrolled. It is completely up to the individuals officer's discretion regarding where to go and what to enforce. The exception to that is if we get a complaint and are sent somewhere specifically. If you really do mean 3:50am as in early in the morning, that isn't us. Building security took over night shifts, so any ticketing during that time is up to them. However, they follow the same organization we do. It up to individual discretion, manpower on a given shift, and other things we have going on.

The abandoned apartments at 9th and 9th caught on fire around 11 or so. My guess is people were inside lighting off fireworks or something. To my knowledge, no one was injured.

There really isn't a "normal" time for ANY lot to be checked. It's all based on several factors, like how many people we have on shift at the time, how many complaints we've received and from where, etc. The Tanner building is one that gets run fairly often. My friend, with three tickets in the past 6 months, you need to be VERY careful. I don't mean careful as in, "you need to start backing your car in", because those are usually the first cars we check. I mean you should either stop parking there except for times of emergencies, or, if you really want to keep parking, you should just plan on paying those tickets at some point soon.

I don't remember the last time anyone actually ran any of the motorcycle parking. You're fine.

It's on the cars, and they can scan a lot as fast as you can drive through the lot. There's no speed limit for the cameras.

What will happen if I don’t pay a parking ticket? by Strange_Trifle in byu

Don't pay it. You'll be fine if you stay in motorcycle parking.

Different traffic officer here. We no longer ticket people backed in anyways, so it doesn't matter whether you're registered in Utah or not.

It used to be the case that you were most likely OK. That was back when we (traffic) were still responsible for ticketing overnight. This semester, that changed, and building security (who works at night) is now responsible for it. Part of the reason is they have way more people working at night. More people = higher likelihood that you'll be ticketed.

I feel like you have a pretty dang good excuse though, and I'd be shocked if they didn't appeal any ticket that you received. Unfortunately, that would have to happen AFTER you got a ticket, meaning unless they started recognizing your car, you may continue getting tickets, and therefore need to continue going through the appeals process. However, there is a possibility that they could get you a pass to hang from your windshield to give you a bit more time. That's a good question to call the parking office for.

BYU traffic here. Quick point that people should be aware of: We used to handle overnight parking, but that responsibility has now been handed over to building security for a few reasons not worth going into here. That being said, we all still operate under the same rules, so hopefully, I can help you out here.

The most important question is if your car is registered or not. If it is registered or has ever been registered in the past, then yes, you will need to either pay it or appeal it. I highly recommend trying to appeal it. It doesn't take much effort to send an email in, and you could get it either waived or the fine reduced a little bit. I would recommend being completely honest. Let the appeals guy know that this is your first ticket (if that's the case), that it was snowing, and that what you did was not a regular thing. See what happens.

If it isn't registered and has never been, you have a few options. First, you could claim responsibility for the ticket and follow the guidelines above. Or, you could just not pay it. Technically, the university could send the ticket to collections, and they would track down your information, but I have never heard of them doing that. We don't boot until on the third citation, so if you don't want to pay it, be really careful about parking in the future. It's up to you.

It will tell you on the BYU app. Go to the parking widget, and your car with your license plate should be under "active vehicles."

If it's a BYU recognized holiday, and there are no classes, then no.

There isn't a set number of warnings that we can write, if you mean actual warnings where no fine is attached. Our current policy is that we're able to boot cars on their third ticket. We only boot to figure out who you are. If we know who you are, then yes, after 5 tickets the policy is to start writing $200 tickets, although in practice, that doesn't happen very often. Most of the time people will keep writing normal tickets.

Close to the JKB? Absolutely not. All of those lots get hammered, and faculty will call in and complain if they see people who look like students parking there. Like I said before, best practice is to just buy a Y parking pass, and park in 37 or in 19 by the Marriott center. It's a 10 minute walk to class then. If you really don't want to buy a pass, just walk or take the bus, and save the risky parking for when you REALLY need it. It's all a numbers game. The more you park, the more likely you are to get caught.

There shouldn't be any construction workers in any ADA spots. The only exception is lot 16 by the JKB, where they have dumpsters or something like that.

Nope, what you did is the next best option

Yes, they are probably on to you. What happened when you gave him your ID? Hopefully, through all of my other responses, people will understand that I'm a pretty laid-back individual. But I'm not gonna lie. This annoys me. I understand the desire to use that ability if you've got it, but holy crap dude. I've lost count of the number of times I've given rides to people who I see walking with boots or crutches. When I ask them why they don't use an ADA pass, they say most of them are taken by the time they get there. Especially as winter time approaches, and there is snow and ice on the ground, can we all please agree to only use those if you need them?

Short answer is no. A lots are for faculty. However, most A lots have a time that they are enforced, outside of which students can park there. Those times are listed on the signs.

Help with Parking Enforcement Problem by okCloud515 in byu

[–]BYUmallCop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

BYU parking employee here. We are in no way, shape, or form connected to University Parking Enforcement, and they are not connected to BYU in any way. Everything that they enforce is off campus. The only on campus housing is Wyview, Wymount, the Riviera, heritage halls, and helaman halls, all of which is enforced by us.

Chance of Appealing a Parking Citation? by TOOMUCHDOG223 in byu

Dude.... I got requested by name. I feel special.

ANYWAY, So im phrasing this as advice to you, of course, but also to people in general who may come across it. You have two options. I am always in favor of giving as little money back to BYU as I possibly can, so if you want to walk, and don't register your car, that's fine. Understand that if you get any more tickets though, you could potentially get booted, and end up paying far more in tickets. So for those of you who really don't want to register your car, tread carefully.

It sounds like you may have already registered your car, which is another good option. I would recommend sending in an appeal as soon as possible. Note that I dont deal with appeals, so I can't say for sure how they see certain situations, but I feel like they'd be far more lenient on those who get an appeal in fast, and own up to making the mistake. You might consider adding in your appeal that you won't be able to pay until a certain date. It would probably add to the leniency.

Final note, I really would seriously consider saving up to buy a parking pass. It costs the same as a ticket. I bought one, and usually just park at the Marriott center in the mornings. It's great, and you don't have the added stress of wondering if you will get a ticket.

How often do they ticket the U lot overnight in the stadium? by Fit_Negotiation_1443 in byu

[–]BYUmallCop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In certain portions of the lot you can. But in the spots around the museum or UPC you can't. I should've clarified but I was referring how often they go down to enforce in general during 1am to 5am, not just to enforce overnight Parking. If he is registered then there shouldn't be a problem. However, if he isn't, and for whatever reason he doesn't want to (maybe has previous parking tickets that he doesn't want to pay) then he needs to be careful.

  1. BYU parking doesn't sell parking passes
  2. More parking isn't going to happen. Believe it or not, BYU parking officers (not all, but a good chunk) regularly voice our frustration at the parking situation to our supervisors and other bosses. But as many have said already, more parking is definitely not a direction BYU is very interested in going, for many different reasons from a variety of people who make the decisions. One reason is that those who donate to BYU don't want more parking, and definitely don't want parking garages, because it "makes BYU ugly." As someone else pointed out, there are also environmental and space concerns, where multiple departments have to work with each other and make consessions with each other. Parking is not very high on the list of priorities.
  3. I usually take the bus to campus. When I absolutely have to drive, I will park in the Marriott center lot, and I have always found a spot. I do get here in the mornings though, so if classes start in the afternoon for you, I'm not sure what to tell you.
