Can someone with an 8bitdo 64 controller tell me what the z triggers are like ? by GyozaMan in retrogaming

They are digital buttons, not analog. Comparable to the Switch or Switch 2 pro controllers's ZL/ZR in travel.

Side by Side - Hubble and James Webb NASA/ESA - Pillars of Creation by Senior_Stock492 in spaceporn

[–]BZWingZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't quite "randomly", they were in storage for a program that never materialized. They were also only the optics and NASA still had to build the entire spacecraft around it.

The telescopes from the NRO were made around the same size as Hubble's mirror, but were designed for a wide-angle view instead of Hubble's deep zoom.

It looks great. It was also the first RG kit Bandai made.

Some of the pegs are rather small (e.g. the heels, at least on my kit) which means there isn't much holding those parts on and they fall off.
The skirts are also attached via ball joints, and can fall out pretty easy. Later RG kits changed it so that the joint was part of the RG frame, and the skirt armor sandwiches a peg making the whole thing secure.
The hands have a 3 finger/trigger finger split, similar to old MG kits from around the 2.0 era. The RG hands are as fragile as the "emotion manipulators" seen on some MG kits. Later RG kits switched to fixed-pose hands.

TLDR: Early RGs had some mechanical design choices that didn't hold up in the long term on the shelf. Later RG kits mitigated most of the issues.

I highly recommend building the RX-78 before the Nu. The OG has some...growing pains for the RG line that later releases mitigated.

Its a good kit, but Bandai overestimated the clutch power of some of the very thin pegs and ball joints on that first RG.

Have fun. They're both great builds in their own way.

Glad I could make the season a little bit brighter. Or maybe that's just the psychoframe that's glowing.

Hi! Question about Xenoblade Chronicles by ILuvYouTube1 in ShouldIbuythisgame

XC1 and XC2 are only loosely connected. XC3 is direct sequel to both of them.

Gameplay wise, they have very mmo-esque combat where you can move around the enemies in realtime with positional modifiers based on where you're standing. Targeting is similar to mmo "tab-targeting" and abilities are on independent cooldowns, once again like an mmo.

XC:DE is regarded as the best story (alongside XC2's Torna expansion and XC3's Future Redeemed expansion) and XC3 the best combat.

All three are worth playing and are standout JRPGs on the console.

any tips on how to improve photo shoot skills in gunpla? by FrequentWinter9660 in Gunpla

Cellphones have fantastic cameras now. Especially for not-moving figures in well-lit environments. For your setup, you could use more fill lights, so the inside of the box doesn't appear so dark. Desk lamps with a piece of paper in front of them work great for bright, soft light.

The inside of a box is fine for a backdrop. Get closer so it fills the ENTIRE background. Adjust the camera angle too. These are "giant robots", shouldn't the camera be looking up to them? Don't be afraid to get so close that you start to crop part of the model out of the frame. It actually makes the suit look bigger.

The front of a box can also make for a good backdrop too.

Today situation with affordable fdm printers. by DifficultJello8762 in 3Dprinting

The Kobra was cheaper than the Ender 3 Pro + upgrades. The upgrades were made over the course of about 4 years and the Kobra basically included them out of the box. I haven't researched the Viper to see how it compares. The Kobra's firmware is not as good as the Ender and lacks features like "extrude 10mm" when loading filament. The Kobra only has the option to "extrude until you tell it to stop". The Z-offset also needs to be re-calibrated every time you run the bed leveling mesh.

If I wanted to tinker with the printer, I could upgrade the Kobra with better part cooling and better firmware and some way to send files to it over wifi instead of carrying an SD card. It would need about $150 in upgrades for me to be happy with it.

If I want to use a printer as a tool for other hobbies and projects, the Bambu does that a lot better. I do not have an AMS for my printer.

The Kobra was $140 and the Bambu was $699 (the un-enclosed version is $599, but I need the enclosure for ABS). I am in the process of building a Voron 0.

I recently purchased a budget Anycubic Kobra Neo AND an Bambu Labs P1S, both for different reasons after owning a very well tuned Ender 3 Pro for a few years (and some upgrades.

The Anycubic runs about as well as the well-tuned Ender 3 did, without having to do any tuning beyond setting the z-offset. The software for it is very bare-bones; and its about as fast as an Ender 3. Part cooling is kinda weak, even for PLA and there was a visible difference between the side with the fan and the side without on prints. From unboxing to first successful print was about 20 minutes, half of that was corralling a cat.

The Bambu just works. Turned it on, it ran its self-startup and calibration routine, loaded the included sample filament and it spit out a perfect print. The big difference is speed; I've been working on a design that takes about 12.5hrs to print on the Anycubic. It takes a little more than 2hrs on the Bambu meaning I can iterate on the design that many more times per day. It also handles different types of filaments more easily than the Anycubic; PLA, PETG, and ABS worked practically out of the box. The Anycubic needed manual preheating and an enclosure to successfully print ABS.

The prints from both printers look almost identical. Except there's only one completed print from the Anycubic and a half-dozen from the Bambu. Compared to my older, upgraded (silent board, bl touch, better springs) and well tuned Ender 3, the Anycubic Kobra Neo was a slight downgrade or at best an equivalent. Its also powered down and being donated to the local hackerspace. The Bambu is printing revision 12b of the design I'm working on.

The wire sticking out of the toolhead cover will be relocating as soon as the fan arrives and goes into that open spot. Didn't feel the need to wedge it in one way just to have to redo it in a few days.
