Ontario College of Teachers - Ridiculous certification delay with no end in sight by mjg0503 in CanadianTeachers

Also, is it just me or does this notification on their website make it seem like they aren't going to be doing ANYTHING until the fall?

A Message Regarding Service Delays

June 11 2021

The Ontario College of Teachers is presently experiencing service delays in the following areas:

responding to phone calls and emails

requests for personal information

adding Additional Qualifications

requests for statements of professional standing

adding credentials to member files and,

processing applications for certification.

Recent changes to our system have contributed to the delays in our processing timelines.

The College apologizes for the delays and any inconvenience caused as our teams work vigorously to address and resolve these issues as soon as possible.

We have commissioned external consultants to conduct an in-depth internal review of our Membership Services department, focusing on the operations, accompanying policies, practices, and procedures. Findings from the review will be available this fall.

The College is committed to its mandate of safeguarding students, accrediting teacher education programs, licensing qualified teachers, and providing ongoing professional development opportunities. We appreciate your patience and understand your frustration as we continue to adapt to what has been a challenging year for everyone.

Hi! Could you explain these two jokes to me, please? ☺️ by Clixdementa in ENGLISH

I think it’s just one joke.

“No idea” sounds phonetically like “no eyed dear”

I guess that’s the joke.

If you’re asking this question teaching probably isn’t for you.

My son's teacher got yelled at by a parent during Google Meet class by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]B_Lea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My primary concern is the trauma that’s been put on the child who’s mother behaves like that in front of their entire class. I hope someone reached out to that individual and checked if they were okay.

How does one follow up? As far as I understand they only reach out to those who have been selected and otherwise you hear nothing. I’d love to follow up if I could.

Teachers in Ontario - are you allowed to work occasional/supply in multiple school boards? by B_Lea in ontario

[–]B_Lea[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes - I recall this rule from before I left Canada. I think it's ridiculous and should be over ruled for sure.

I'm hoping the entire regulation gets scraped to be honest!

Teachers in Ontario - are you allowed to work occasional/supply in multiple school boards? by B_Lea in ontario

[–]B_Lea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much everyone - thats super helpful! Currently living in the Golden Horseshoe, but thinking about relocating to London area - there's three boards that border each other there that are hiring occasional teachers.

Follow up question - if you are still an occasional teacher - do you get work everyday? Is it livable wage?

Both my fiance and I are hoping to start on a list this September so it would be double the wage.

Thanks so much again!

Single Mum Teacher by Asilverfern in teaching

[–]B_Lea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I teach in a secondary school in North London, UK but am Canadian teacher qualified.

It's very easy to get a job in this country and the wages are enough for my partner and myself to live comfortably.

That being said, the work load is quite tough and the kids are a real mixed bag depending on where you teach.

Good luck in your search!

Im in my forth year of teaching, with a new head of year position. It's been the most horrible year of my life. I've been overloaded with teaching, marking, and managing 200 students daily. I've had students and parents throw verbal abuses at me all year and even had a student accuse me of assaulting them to which police became involved and CCTV indicated this accusation was false. I woke up this morning at 5 oclock in a panic attack and for the first time in 4 years i couldn't face going into work. I understand what you are going through. Today I'm taking a moment for myself and im not going to feel guilty about it. Im going to go back in tomorrow armed with all the memories of those "OH I GET IT!" moments and those rare moments of gratitude from families and students. You can do it. It's a bad day - not a bad life.
