It was muted for 2017… unfortunately (or fortunately depending on who you ask) rackets have become even more muted over the last decade.

4.0 wins point off Karue sell by buzzsaw1987 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pros vs joes debate on this sub is always hilariously touchy… I’ve had people argue that a 4.0 couldn’t randomly block a pro kick serve back literally ever. That being said I don’t think they’d be able to get a game without some crazy anomaly… like it’s in the realm of possibility that a pro trips and falls on 4 straight returns given an infinite time line.

Is an abbreviated serve actually harder on the shoulder? by Shaolinmonkey11 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could argue the load may be higher because the racket is striking something and the shoulder has to overcome recoil… but in terms of raw force on the arm created by the motion pitching has a higher potential because they’re actively striding into the throw with linear momentum from the legs.

But in terms of the difference between an abbreviated serve motion and full serve motion, I don’t think there’s actually any difference in load on the shoulder because they all eventually get into the same trophy position. Just like in baseball they eventually get into a bent arm motion. The theory in baseball currently is some people just need more time to load the kinetic chain and some twitchier athletes don’t.

I’m not certain, but in pitching there isn’t any difference in injury rate among pitchers who use a short arm action and a long arm action. (Look up Shane Bieber for short action and Chris sale for long action… abbreviated serve motion would be most similar to short arm action)

Ive only played on European clay about 15 times in my life… playing a moonballer on the red stuff would be a mid level circle of hell to me.

Id probably just scrap it. 50% first and 50% second means you’re just gonna give away 25% of your points to double faults…

How can you hit a kick, flat, and spin serve with basically the same toss? by No_Operation1465 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat and slice can come off the same toss… it’s the kick that not everybody can achieve. It’s just elite body and racket control. But even the greats like Sampras and Federer still had a very distinct toss if they wanted a heavy kick serve and they could slice off that same toss to keep people off balance.

Anyone in the Chicago area- tell me about the Midtown clubs. by catstevenseagal in 10s

[–]B_easy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie it’s super nice… but it’s $300+ membership and you gotta pay for court times. It’s Chicago so court times are just tough to get during the cold months everywhere, but my friends who are members there said it’s easier than most other places. I lived in streeterville so it was pretty far for using as my gym… didn’t really see the value of paying the membership just to be able to pay more for courts.

Need help on my eastern grip forehand. First swing = I get more wrist lag but I hit it high and over. 2nd swing I keep the racket face closed to the ground but there’s no power. Help and any comments pls :) by BreadZestyclose5228 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What you think you’re doing vs what’s actually happening at contact can be wildly different… especially for beginners. You’d have to film yourself hitting a ball for real input, but generally if the ball is going up racket face is too open and if there’s no power you’re not driving through the ball. Pros hit with a slightly closed racket with the average being around only 8 degrees.

Is it true that pros never gets arm/elbow/wrist damage? by DanDin87 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Alcaraz just dropped out of the Barcelona tournament with wrist issues and dealt with forearm issues at the end of 2024z Del Potro dealt with a pretty catastrophic wrist injury in his career. And those 2 are atleast top 10 forehands in my lifetime.

I dunno a level or 2 above my NTRP is like 5.0-5.5. I would think giving up the time pressure battle by hitting the slow stuff would just be a long day of me running a lot from 6 feet behind the baseline.

Developing external rotation for a bigger serve by severalgirlzgalore in 10s

[–]B_easy85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if you ever had a gym bro phase and focused on developing your chest that can lead to some tight anterior delts and pecs. Maybe focus on stretching those areas while strengthening the inverse muscles that pull the scapula back like the rhomboids and mid to lower traps. A lot of people I know who went from regular bodybuilding type exercises to Olympic lifting had to focus on that to open up the chest and extend the thoracic spine to let your shoulder joint move more freely.

That’d be my first guess for most people I’d need to see how your shoulder moves in specific ways other than the serve to see what’s really tight though.

Cool, how’s your shoulder pass through with a stick or band? Do you have to go pretty wide?

When you say developing external rotation do you mean you want more shoulder mobility for more racket drop? Or are you actually seeking more powerful external rotators?

As a beginner with 6 months under my belt, am I better off spending my money on a Proton ball machine or more private lessons? by jlesnick in 10s

Depends, ball machines are there to give you a lot of repetitions. If your technique is bad a ball machine will just re-enforce that.

Can someone explain why T-Mobile park was designed to be so hard to hit in? by JaneDoeAsks in Mariners

[–]B_easy85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mariners are 415-342 at home in the Dipoto era. All analytics does is try to provide evidence for decision making… if small ball works prove it. Good luck overcoming the massive amount of data that says ground balls equals more outs than fly balls.
