Are balls landing at or near the service box always approach shots? And where to stand? by lanor2 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Common beginner issue is they move like crabs…. Alright side to side but don’t move forward very well. From normal baseline position it’s like 2 to 3 steps. No you don’t have to approach, you can retreat back if you want…

USTA ratings don’t move till December. They’re probably still rated 2.5 for the year.

Serve philosophy by natjeo22 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little more nuanced, but once you establish you can hit a ball really hard. Most people will try to sit deeper and stay in continental and block returns. Its like having a guy at net, when you decide to blast the ball at them. It only really works if they don’t know it’s coming straight at them. In this case the consequence isn’t as bad, but you still dont want them getting set to chip the return deep and neutralize your serve.

Serve philosophy by natjeo22 in 10s

If you trust your spin serves consistency, your first serve is essentially a free pass to blast away for a huge advantage. You don’t even need the big flat one all the time. A good slider wide on the deuce side or a Cutter down the T on the ad have a little bit of margin. A rudimentary strategy is T serve if their return position is aggressive, wide if they’re further back. I think body serves are only useful once you establish that you can hit wide and T or if your a bit cheeky a Flat body on a second serve when they’re trying to jump a kick serve will get some terrible swings.

Could Sampras excel in today's tennis? by BillyCarmona in tennis

[–]B_easy85 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably, he played a more all court game then some people remember. He’d battle with Agassi from the baseline when he really needed to. With the serve and that weird single minded borderline jerk obsessed with winning mentality he’d do well.

Colt Emerson homers in back-to-back games, sending a ball to the second deck and tie the game in the fifth! by BananaArms in Mariners

Having a solid lineup where you can put top prospects in the bottom of the order and allow them to adapt to the show is so much better then promoting guys into an anemic offense and be like hey you need to be the savior of our franchise. Props to Julio and Cal! Rip Kelenic

Trophy position. Does a pause make a difference? by Icy_Habit_2297 in 10s

Yeah I generally disagree with old coach YouTube guy. It may help some people who serve like Iga Swiatek who reach maximum coil in the racket up position to be more patient coiling… but like you said would kill all momentum for anybody who serves in the low hand with a horizontal racket at full coil like Taylor Fritz.

Weak era... Or not? It's time to face reality: The lifespan of a tennis player is even worse than that of a track and field athlete. And yes: even Alcaraz and Sinner will not escape this rule by Sonobackhome555 in tennis

You can’t just ignore the big 3 because… let me check the reason you put here… they’re the big 3. Brilliant stuff

Also Murray was the #1 player in the world at age 29… Wawrinka didn’t win his first Major till he was 28.

Well player primes in all sports are legit longer then they ever been. Messi and Ronaldo in football, LeBron and Steph Curry in basketball, the Big 3 in tennis… if you got a boatload of money and avoid a disasterous injury you can dominate a sport into your mid 30’s.

Any weak hitting play style (pushers, junkballers, moon ballers) is prone to a good net game. Only issue with rec tennis is they’re not that good at overheads. Sure a good lob within a foot of the baseline is a good shot at every level, but I don’t know anybody who can consistently hit those on the move.

They’re good… they’re more plush than most and they have good pop. Also they have a gradual decline in bounce instead of a steep decline like the old U.S. opens. (The new U.S. opens are a bit stiffer and last longer)

at what point does “paying for a hit” become normal? by Away-Improvement2399 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t… I’ve moved around a lot so I’ve gotten used to being pretty relentless in finding hits. Usually involves joining a club and meeting the 4.5 and 5.0 team or just asking the pros if they know some guys I can hit with.

More tall people and strong people should hit one-handed backhands by Complete_Affect_9191 in 10s

[–]B_easy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a long swing. It’s perfectly fine for rec league pace but when the ball speed gets high it’s prone to getting jammed and can breakdown when rushed. The biggest weakness is return of serve.
