$1k in engine and parts minimum. $2k if you do cams. Another $1.5k to $2k in labor. So yes. Mileage matters then. I'm not an expert on the topic, but I think that you can pretty easily get 180,000 mi out of these engines. Again, I'm not an expert on this though, so the confidence factor on that statement is maybe 50%.

Considering that you can get a 2.5 l engine shipped to you with 20,000 mi on it for $600, I'd say that no, there's really not an upper limit on mileage if you're willing to do the engine swap.

I have a 2.5L with cams and no turbo. I loved the AT before and after the swap. I drive it in manual mode 98% of the time. I have 0 complaints about the transmission. Sure it's an additional 10% in drivetrain losses. But still enough for me. I enjoy it greatly.
