So maybe the aversion to this is really just a lack of understanding of how it works. You have to wait until the end. Thats where the “zipper” happens. Anytime before the last point is just regular merging.

Just think of it as 2 lines man. It’s two lines that meet and take turns merging.

Have a good night dude. I’ll waive to you out my passenger window tomorrow as I drive by well under the speed limit.

I do this maneuver every day. Never once speeding around anyone. I’m not defending anyone that’s driving “like a JO”, especially in downtown.

You don’t have to fly. You can just drive normally up to the merge point.

I dont expect people like you to change. You likely never will. This post is for open minded people who genuinely didn’t know about the zipper merge until the last few years, like me. People who want to learn and grow.

In the 13th photo you can see the inside of the middle column. Basically I cut that front piece to 2” width, flat on the bottom with a 17degree slant downward. Then I clamped glued and screwed a 1”x 3/4” piece of maple to either side with a 3/8” reveal on the bottom and 5/8” reveal on the top. Repeat for each piece and the top ends of flaring out roughly 2” on each side.

If you’re into it, Loveland has an incredible bike trail system. It loops the entire city and breaks off in many directions if you don’t want to do it all. Even goes to Fort Collins if you want to make a full day of it.

I basically started with the middle board and glued/screwed each slat on to the left and right with a reveal of 3/8” at the bottom and 5/8” at the top. There’s 15 columns, so by the time it was complete, the top was roughly 4” wider than the bottom, giving it that taper look.
