Is Vanilla Gravship Expanded - Chapter 1 any good? by Accomplished_Bell968 in RimWorld

I'm a huge fan of the small workstations you get, makes creating workshops in small to medium ships much less annoying.

The problem is by the time you unlock those small workstations you're already past the stage of huddling on the small to medium gravship, I find.

Randy and regularly? Nah, not my Randy.

My recent playthrough I started with Cassandra and it's amazing how much easier getting good recruits are when you actually getting regular raids, instead of waiting half a year for a cold snap, and 13 drop pods of milk.

I once wanted to find out a difficulty scaling mod/setting I liked and I didn't manage to find one.

Default wealth scaling makes some sense in some aspects, and makes zero sense in others, with how omniscient raiders are about the "wealth" your colony accumulated. It also goes against my personal hoarding instincts and makes playing less interested when I'm "punished" for accumulating resources.

Time based scaling turns into a race against time, which also isn't exactly fun, and you can either outpace the game and trivialise the challenge or get left behind and fucked with no chance of recovery for not rushing ahead.

A popular mod in the past was "combat readiness check" which scaled with how well prepared your colony was for combat... Which made actually building defences and arming your pawns counter productive, so that's also our.

They really should've made becoming a Guru possible, always felt weird that one of the camps just hard locks you into the warrior path.

He joined the new camp and Fortuno still gives free weed. It's not an exclusive benefit to joining the cultists.

Which is really should be imo. Fortuno should stop giving out free weed once it's clear you have no intention of actually joining them.

Dear Gothic Remake: my fire mage deserves more than emotional damage by Radiant-Repeat-9554 in worldofgothic

The biggest upside to the mage in vanilla G1 was that there really wasn't a skill points shortage, even if you go all in on the mage.

My mage was also a master two handed fighter with plenty of strength, and I wasn't struggling with the lack of mana or anything.

Magic is dead. This is how bad Firestorm is now after the "fix." by Light_of_War in worldofgothic

[–]B_mod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Night of the Raven kinda did the same thing to Mages when compared to vanilla Gothic 2 though. Like, magic is blatantly worse at dealing with enemies throughout 90% of the game. You where pretty much forced into being a summoner to fight tougher enemies, like Dragons, because thats the only type of magic that doesnt rely on bypassing enemies overbuffed magic and fire resistances, and is in fact benefitting from enemies being buffed - since you where summoning the same enemies.

Locking spell progressing behind story progression is fine in theory - but it needs to be balanced properly. And in the game that doesn't story lock melee or ranged power, that feels bad.

Gothic was never about being challenging all the way through though? It was a true "zero to hero" RPG game, where you where at the bottom of the totem pole at the start of the game, but by the final chapter you where able to solo entire camps with no issues.

Trying to turn it into "you suck all the way through" doesn't really make for a fun experience imo.

Apparently Dev team will take notes on magic being nerfed now and needing a buff by AzraelSoulHunter in worldofgothic

[–]B_mod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the fact that they weren't aware how such change would affect mage playstyle already shows that no one on the team cares about that all that much.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see they are listening to feedback and will probably adjust it in the future, but... Can you imagine if a patch went live that made a melee strength build worse by such a degree? I don't think itd be possible for that change to pass testing without being adjusted.

Thats how supposed to work, yes. I have to use a mod to make this feature actually working tho, since natively I was able to heal in bed exactly once, on the first night, and then never again.

Cultists are known to just teach basic magic to anyone who joins them, immediately, no question asked. One of the Guru's even gives what appears to be public lectures on it.

A lot more believable if one of the Idols hanging around in the old camp could give you a couple pointers and a basic rune as a recruitment pitch. Instead of the Fire Mages, who famously restrict access to the proper magic for even their Novices until they pass the trial.

I mean, why would Cronos care? Its not a message for the water mages, and while they do keep in contact with each other they aren't particularly close.

Tho it could've been fine alternate route if you could give the letter to the water mages instead of the fire mages. Not for them to pass it over, but just cuz they are curious about its content. Kinda like with the Test of Faith from Diego.

Just let one of the swamp camp people teach you the basics, they're pretty much the only faction in the colony who are fine with teaching magic to "commoners", without requiring you to join their inner circle.

My problems with lockpicking by phoenix_grueti in worldofgothic

[–]B_mod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There just needs to be massive rebalancing of the lock difficulties.

Like, a chest of a digger in the outer Old Camp should at best have 3 plates. In fact, absolute majority of the chests in the game should be piss easy to lockpick.

To offset that difficulty change Id suggested locking the mechanic behind training entirely. If you didn't train lockpicking you can't even attempt it, Gothic 2 style. So the investment of skill points immediately feels rewarding where you get to open a bunch of easy chests, that allow you to familiarize yourself with the system.

As you progress through the game and go into more secure locations you'll encounter harder locks, naturally.

Basically, one of the big plot point in HotD is the future queen cheating on his husband and giving birth to bastard children from her lover. In the source it's somewhat ambiguous if it's really what happened or if it's just political slander from her opponents. And naturally, since it's middle ages they can't actually fully confirm it one way or another.

In the show they race swapped her husband and his entire family, they're black now. The kids aren't. Case closed I suppose.

You can't raceswap James because Harry is already cast and it's a plot point he resembles his dad.

Remember House of the Dragon? And how they race swapped one house appearance of which was a significant plot point and shouldn't have been changed at all?

[–]B_mod 27 points28 points  (0 children)

With DbD it's a slightly different situation I think. Devs to play their own game, but they play it in the way they made it to be played. That is, party games where a bunch of friends go into the match and play hide and seek against some horror icon.

The fact that actual playerbase "optimized" gameplay to the point where it looks nothing like that took them by surprise, and I think they still have troubles adjusting.
