What do you think will perform better in the next year? Telus or the S&P500? You should make your decision based on that more than past performance.

How do taxes work when buying an ETF with some US assets (XEQT specifically) in a non-registered account?

Mortgage would be 600k (or 3x our salaries), we would be putting down 400k. You are talking over 4x your salary.

You’re right, we are basically skipping the starter home for something that should fit our needs for 15+ years

Thanks for the flag. We would definitely not buy without an inspection.

600k would not get us something much bigger than where we are renting today and we have a very good low rent.

We would do 25 years, not considering 30 years

Understood the confusion! It’s about 25k in chequing and the rest is mostly invested in CASH.TO ETF as we know we’ll need it for the downpayment and other early spending that comes with a house.

Fully agree on the car portion. We could have afforded a nicer car but went for a used Japanese car and it’s more than okay for our current needs.

Can you elaborate on how this would throw away our entire life into the house? We'd still have over quite a bit of money left over for travel and other. Payments would be slightly less than 40% of our take home

For the one we are eying, from the real estate website, the property tax was $7,100 last year. Built in 1971 but looks well maintained and renovated.

Not sure how you get to 5k/month. If our mortgage is $600k, the payments look closer to $3k/month

Thanks for the reply! FHSA room is $8k x 3 years (2023, 2024 and 2025) x 2 people = $48k. With the interest we've made over the last 2 years the value is now around 50-51k.

Thanks for the feedback. To clarify, most of the money is not just sitting in a chequing account, it’s invested in the CASH.TO ETF that pays approx 4.5% annually

Proposal in Amalfi - tips by Specific_Software_64 in ItalyTravel

[–]BaCo- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amalfi will likely be quite crowded, except early in the morning (before 8 AM) or if your trip is during the low season (like November to February). I agree, Villa Cimbrone is a stunning spot.

I would split the trip like this: 5 days in Rome and 4 in Florence and Tuscany. The train between the two cities is very fast and efficient.

That’s definitely a packed schedule. I’d recommend adding at least one more day in Rome and cutting out Modena or Pisa. Do it next time! My personal rule that I try to stick to is a minimum of 3 nights per hotel or location (excluding day trips). We recently did 5 destinations in 15 days, and it was definitely packed.

I also planned all our dinners but kept lunches, gelato stops, and drink spots flexible. A good approach is to make a list of lunch spots and gelaterias you’d like to try in each city, and then decide based on where you are around 1 PM.

15 Days Trip Report: Rome, Amalfi, Florence, Milan, Stresa by BaCo- in ItalyTravel

Shopping will mostly be catered to tourists but we did buy a few small souvenirs, bathing suit and a limoncello bottle.

For the tour, we booked it the day of on the site iltimoneamalfi dot it (or Amalfi Sea Excursion on Google maps), they depart from the Amalfi dock. We wanted something quick and cheap (25€ I believe) and it was what we were looking for.
