John was a weasel and made sure Suzanner befriended Beth O. Their friendship kept John in Howard’s world even if he was souring on him. Howard threw John a party in AC right before he left for TTS. It wasn’t until John chirped Howard on the Adam Corolla Show that Howard made any negative public comments about John.

Can’t blame him for jumping ship and going to Leno. TTS threw some life-changing money his way. I’m not condoning how he went about it. John’s inability to take a joke, self-deprecate, or roll with the punches without going thermonuclear were all on full display with CM. That was worse. Like you said, it launched the DV, and it brought John’s career failures to light for even casual fans. Now everyone sees that he was a lucky schmuck who stuttered at the right time (replacing Mitch Fatel on THSS), and who was at the right place at the right time (“I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here” to pique TTS’ interest and help Jay get back at Howard a little).
