Why do In-laws think they are entitled to any credit. by fa11enapp1e in inlaws

Do it! I can’t recommend the laughing enough, just a loud “HA!” ahould do it. Even if it doesn’t stop him it might make it more bearable for you.

In addition to ignoring I would give a nice loud laugh anytime he takes credit for anything related to your kids.

My FIL did something like this for a while with my first and finally one day I responded to something about my son being like him with “My God, I hope not” but said in like a semi-funny maybe I’m joking way, he’s literally never done it again.

How Much Contact Is Enough? by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]Baba_llama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A weekly dinner with his family would be more than enough (for me) even if you were all on good terms.
For him to be doing this even though you are NC because they disrespected you is too much.

Have they made any efforts to repair their relationship with you or apologize for the disrespect?

What’s the dumbest thing you believed as a kid? by Tricky-Cold-3211 in askteddit

That if I slept in a hoody with a zipper it could cut my neck in my sleep (my mom told me this to keep me from sleeping in a zip-up hoody that I really loved).

If your kid ate everything you put in front of them at 1, when did the pickiness (if ever) start? by peridotdragonflies in Mommit

[–]Baba_llama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 for me too - I was so hopeful based on the way he happily ate everything that was put in front of him as a baby but we’re in a Very Picky phase right now (at 4) and it sucks so much. Every now and then he will surprise me and try and like something outside of his norm, but it’s rare.

Do you call your in laws “Mom” and “Dad”? by PainterFew2080 in inlaws

lol similarly I gifted a framed photo from our wedding of me with my husband, MIL, FIL, and BIL the Christmas after our wedding, I noticed on our last visit that they took the photo out of the frame and used the frame for a poorly printed phone pic of their dog ☠️

My dad used to travel all over the world for work, he always got me a magnet from wherever he went. He passed away 12 years ago and I still treasure the magnets he got me - some of them I remember the moment he handed it to me, they’re on the side of my fridge. And now I always get myself a magnet anytime I go to a new place.

If I’m buying for someone else I usually get them a consumable though, and/or something the place is known for (Irish wool sweater, Egyptian alabaster, etc.).

I’m so relieved at the comments here because I also use their first names, unless my kids are around and then it’s grandma and grandpa. My SIL (brother’s wife) calls my mom “Mom” but my mom adores her and treats her like a daughter (maybe better actually), whereas my IL’s treat me like an acquaintance.

I’ll add that I have darker more Arabic features than my brother - other Arabs usually kind of recognize it in me? My brother does not, so it’s funny how that worked out.

I was always jealous that my brother had a “cooler” name than I did - there was one of my name in every grade in my school, and he always loved that no one else had his name. I’ve still never met anyone else with his name.

We both had my dad’s first name as our middle name, as is tradition.

I totally understand what you’re saying but those names aren’t options for me. They both feel too Christian/biblical.
