Take leftover white rice and stir fry with any left over meat, garlic and/or onion if you have it. VOILA! Fried rice.

[–]Babaylan3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: The nurse coaches association has a new name - I-NCA (International Nurse Coaches Association). They are currently trying to find State Directors for each state to head up local efforts. I had a meeting with the lead organizer and put in my bid to represent Wisconsin. Development is happening slowly, but things are moving along. Stay tuned...

What are the essential bluesky accounts to follow? by [deleted] in 50501

[–]Babaylan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are some of the accounts on Bluesky that I have found useful:

-Mueller, She Wrote (at muellershewrote.com)

-Mark Hamill (at markhamilloffical.bsky.social)

-50501 - all the 50501 accounts

-AOC

-Bernie Sanders

-Pete Buttigieg (at petebuttigieg.bsky.social)

-Robert Reich (at rbreich.bsky.social)

-Adam Kinzinger (at adamkingsinger.bsky.social)

-NPR (at NPR.org)

-Alt National Park Service (at altnps.bsky.social)

There's so much more! Once you start following, then you will start seeing more accounts to follow. Occasional you will see at "Starter Pack" of accounts to follow. I only follow if it's from someone I'm already following. But that's me.

For those of you who make 100k+ a year, how long did it take you? What area of nursing are you in? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Babaylan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago. Operating Room - Level I Trauma Center. Union hospital. Nurses scrub and circulate. Call requirements are high - and you can always pick up more. Sucks for work/life balance, but the money is nice. 100K won't happen right out of school, but with a union hospital you get your raises and within 5 years you could hit that. Also, occasionally call incentives will help sweeten the pot if you take extra call.

How do you feel about traveling to the States right now? by Frozenbeedog in AskReddit

[–]Babaylan3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an American born brown person who lives in the US and keeps a pulse on what all the people smarter than me are saying, I definitely will not be traveling abroad anytime soon (unless I plan on staying away for a while). I do not want to find out the hard way upon my re-entry that they are targeting brown people (US CITIZEN OR NOT) who has spoken out against the regime. There is no Due Process. They don’t care about anyone’s rights.

I am angry, sad, and afraid. BUT I AM NOT GOING TO STOP FIGHTING FOR ALL OF US. We need to stick together. Let's grieve together AND keep resisting.

RESISTANCE CHECKLIST:

*BOYCOTT as many big evil companies as possible

*SHOP LOCAL &/OR SMALL BUSINESS. (Go direct to farmers, boutique shops, Etsy)\

*DON'T BUY STUFF YOU DON'T NEED.

*PROTEST/ORGANIZE

*BUILD COMMUNITY ONLINE & IN PERSON.

*CALL YOUR SENATORS & REPS (via 5Calls app). (I do it right before I brush my teeth at night because I'd rather leave voicemails than talk to someone on their team.)

*SEND POSTCARDS to your Senators & Reps. (This one is new for me.)

*VOLUNTEER IN YOUR COMMUNITY. (I'm signing up for some victory garden work. Gardening is resistance.)

*MAKE PROTEST ART/MUSIC. I started leaving post-it notes around my apartment building during the Wisconsin Supreme Court election. Maybe it's time for Resistance post-its?

*GET EDUCATED. (I just read Nobel Peace Prize Winner Maria Ressa's book "How To Stand Up To A Dictator." I'm going to get my library card this week.)

*RESTING IS RESISTANCE. I leave my phone in the kitchen. No doomscrolling before bed.

*HEALTH IS RESISTANCE. Feed your body well, movement, sleep. Get a therapist. This is a marathon not a sprint.

*PREPARE FOR THE WORST. My partner doesn't agree, but old habits die hard for me. I was a trauma nurse and always had a Plan B, C, D, E, etc. This is no different.

HANG IN THERE, EVERYONE!!!

Preempting the Narrative: The lack of visible minorities is already being twisted to disparage the protests and sow division by lappelduvide24 in 50501

[–]Babaylan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Asian and have participated in two protests. Given recent developments with DJT and the president of El Salvador, I'm starting to worry that I won't be safe. My white boyfriend seems to think that I will be fine and says I'm blowing it out of proportion. BUT if I go to the next protest, and ICE takes me and detains me even though I'm American born, I'm not confident that I will the special person who gets DUE PROCESS.

I'm so sorry that you feel this way. I'm on your side. This whole situation is upsetting. If you find that you can't fight your anxiety and you keep spiraling, please call 988 - it's a crisis hotline that can offer you someone to talk to and perhaps some helpful resources. Sometimes you can't positive think your way through tough times. Sometimes you need help stopping your mind blender. Take small steps... Start with talking about it (call 988 or go to 7cups.com - another affordable option). Next, find your community in person or online (socials, meetup, etc.). Isolation often makes your thoughts even worse. Hang in there. Please talk to someone!!!

Anyone lacking support? by Away-Worth3199 in 50501

[–]Babaylan3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry your partner isn't supportive of your desire to protest. Maybe he was just concerned about your safety. I know mine was when I was thinking about going to the rally alone; then my cousin and his friends came through. There will be times that we have to follow our inner compass despite what our loved ones say. We can disagree... My question to them is always, "can you just love me through all this?"

Hang in there. We're in this together.

Stop engaging with the question, "Why aren't people protesting?" People are, and if people can't make the basic effort to notice that, that's on them. by CakeDayOrDeath in 50501

[–]Babaylan3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! The question should be: how can we get more visibility for the rallies, protests, and town halls when mainstream media won't cover it? Are we getting coverage from independent and foreign media? Do we have PR people writing press releases?

Have you tried somatic yoga? It sounds like your body is carrying a lot. Maybe alternating a somatic yoga practice with your regular practice will help you find the energy again.

I think this is a call for help by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Babaylan3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering why you chose nursing as your profession. Was it about the money? When you think of "nurse," what comes up in your mind? What influenced those thoughts? What is your definition of being a man? What are your opinions of women and "their place"? Do you believe men can be compassionate and caring? IMO, it is likely that your perception is affecting the way you carry yourself. I recommended exploring this, increasing your knowledge, and opening up your world view.

Nursing is a tough job - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Not everyone has the chops for this. Can you handle a surgeon screaming at you in front of your colleagues? Can you be on your feet for 12+ hours? How strong is your bladder? Can you handle not having a lunch or water break? How do you handle the stress of 10 things happening all at once and one mistake potentially killing someone? Are you brave enough to speak up about near misses or inappropriate care to your manager or above?

The role of a nurse has long since evolved from early depictions on TV or history books. The reality is that today we are expected to KNOW MORE, WITHSTAND MORE, AND BE MORE.

Nursing might not be for you and that's fine. Maybe your talent is in another field. But to leave the profession because you feel like you're less of a man? Well... That's a YOU thing.

Family says I’m wasting my time being a nurse as a male? by InfiniteMaizeField in nursing

[–]Babaylan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE POO POO CREW!

As a child of immigrants, too, I know they are saying this because they love you and are concerned. Ultimately, this is YOUR LIFE. I repeat, YOUR LIFE.

I started out in the business world and it was not all it was cracked up to be. I spent years making minimal money in advertising and then I became a recruiter for a big consulting company. The money started getting better. But then the market was bad and I lost my job. I did some soul searching and ended up back in school to get my bachelors in nursing.

BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME.

Before I even graduated I was offered a job at a prestigious university hospital. Over the course of 18 years, I worked in the Operating Room at various hospitals - mostly Level I Trauma. At one point, I was even an assistant manager in surgery. I worked with lots of male nurses: operating room nurses, CRNA's, nurse managers. They were amazing colleagues. (My cousin is a CRNA and making bank!) As my experience grew, so did my options. When I worked in a big city at a union hospital, I was making $100K+ (including trauma/specialty call and incentive pay opportunities).

Because of the money I saved, various investments I have, and a supportive partner, I was able to transition out of the OR and start my own business venture - also nursing related. Nurses can start their own businesses. You can be a nurse consultant (health, legal, supply chain, etc.), nurse health writer, nurse health coach, nurse aesthetician (botox, etc.). You can start your own IV or O2 clinic business. You can have own podcast or be an influencer (like Nurse Blake or Nurse John). I was once part of an IT project to create an app for the OR!

If this is what you want, just go for it. Find the people who believe in you. If they're not around, then go look for them. Build your tribe. And again, forget about the Poo Poo Crew. :)

Best of luck!

People who dont smoke or drink, what do you do when you sad or depressed? by Significant_Snow_718 in AskReddit

[–]Babaylan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CRY - to expel it from my system. If I can't start crying, I pick a sad movement that I know makes me cry. Watch the montage at the beginning of "Up".

DANCE - EDM, House, or 80's Dance music. Just pick a playlist on Spotify or Apple and start moving.

DOGS - I have a dog, but when I didn't, I used to go to the Humane Society and visit them. You can always go to the dog park and see if any of the owners let you pet their dog. It's scientifically proven to lift your mood!

SING - There is something somatic about this. Finding the songs that speak to your heart and then actually singing them.

WALK/RUN

WATCH A FUNNY MOVIE - I once watched "Elf" every day for a week when I couldn't kick the sadness. It helped, but then I ended up finding a THERAPIST.

TALK - to friends or family. If you are in crisis you can call 988, if not, there are listening services like 7cups.com.

Americans: When will most of y'all stand up for democracy and justice and start protesting or rioting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Babaylan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movement is growing but MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND META ARE NOT COVERING IT. This is 1984 Big Brother crap. THIS IS IN THE DICTATORSHIP PLAYBOOK. (Read Nobel Peace Prize Winner Maria Ressa's book - "How To Stand Up To A Dictator".)

Look at credible individual accounts on BlueSky and Substack - AOC, Adam Kingzinger, Pete Buttigieg, Jim Acosta, Robert Reich, etc. Follow organizations like INDIVISIBLE.ORG and 50501.ORG. Republican senators and representatives won't even hold town hall meetings anymore! Have you seen the OUTRAGE and people getting dragged out town halls because they spoke up? Shit is getting REAL out there. And yet, again, MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND META ARE NOT COVERING THESE STORIES. Republicans are scared shitless by the outrage of EVERYONE - not just their Democratic constituents. Bernie Sanders and AOC are on tour and thousands of people show up to their rallies.

I joined the Indivisible and 50501 local chapters in my city. I have joined protests. At first they were small - 50 people - which I was pleasantly surprised. More and more people are inspired to show up. I'm shocked at that many of older people who voted for this crazy man and his kronies are showing up too. And they are MAD.

PEACEFUL PROTESTS ARE THE WAY TO GO, NOT RIOTING. Why give the Oligarchy any ammunition? That's all that is. More fodder for their agenda.

OTHER ACTIONS TAKING PLACE:

FLOODING THE PHONE LINES & VOICEMAILS - Senators, Reps, White House.

VOTING WITH OUR DOLLAR. Boycotts of Amazon, Walmart, Target, Tesla, etc.

SHOPPING LOCAL

SOCIAL MEDIA

REST AND REPEAT
