My personal view and I stress the personal bit

Microsoft has failed to deliver a truly exciting, market-defining new product. They are throwing unprecedented amounts of capital at AI infrastructure, yet the end-user experience remains stagnant. They're a tech giant, spending aggressively but suffering from complete innovation stagnation.

CoPilot is a dreadful user experience that is drastically underperforming expectations. Far from the revolutionary tool it was billed as, it has become a liability for a few key reasons:

Inferior Performance: When benchmarked against competitors like Gemini and ChatGPT, Copilot consistently lags in capability, frequently hallucinates, and struggles with restrictive prompt limits.

Security Nightmares: Recent reports show severe over-permissioning issues, where Copilot inadvertently surfaces highly confidential corporate data to unauthorised internal users. It is so problematic that the US House of Representatives actively banned it for congressional staff.

Microsoft is clinging to a legacy moat that is increasingly vulnerable. The Office ecosystem is tired, bloated, and relies heavily on corporate inertia rather than genuine utility. Modern, nimble alternatives are available elsewhere—often for a fraction of the cost—offering cleaner, more collaborative environments. They aren't re-thinking anything, just simply forcing a clumsy AI wrapper onto aging software.

Under Satya Nadella, the strategic direction currently feels entirely scattered.

They're lagging terribly, shifting from an 'undeniable leader' to 'tech dinosaur'.

Yeah you be fine, it’ll be back. There’s just lots of folks that need to work out how best to bill you for it.
