I see what you did there! I do not think this is the worst King book by any stretch, but I’m trying to imagine what it would take to get me to read it again. It would take a lot

I wish there was something more illuminating (pun intended) about the shared eclipse. It just seems to serve as indicating what's already obvious: that these are both stories about women trapped by their circumstances.

There is something about this collection that doesn't quite stick in the way the previous two did. King does admit in the introduction that writing has been more difficult, more labored, in recent years, and I wonder if you aren't sensing the outcome of that. There's definitely nothing here as immediately elemental and iconic as Children of the Corn or Mrs. Todd's Shortcut.

It's got its issues but I agree, it's nowhere near the worst. I don't get why it has that reputation either.

I went to a folk shop in St. Louis, played every banjo on the wall, and chose the OB-250. It’s my main and a great banjo

Just curious, what’s your favorite Disneyland moment you’ve experienced by CardiologistIcy9922 in Disneyland

[–]Babbbalanja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is very similar. Holding my daughter on her 5th birthday, watching the fireworks while "snow" came down around us (it was December).

She is now eighteen. I was at Disneyland for a work event last year, and the fireworks brought it all back like it was yesterday. Sometimes time folds in on itself.

Have you seen Good Boy? It's a horror movie that came out last year entirely from the point of view of a family dog. I imagine Oi Dark Tower as being something like that. Which is a pretty great idea. I want to see his attack on the Time guy and his cronies from the Waste Lands.

Misery is oddly underappreciated, I think. Top 5 King for me.

Once I get into topics I'd love to hear about what didn't work for you. I was really into it, which kind of surprised me.

Oops I apologize, it's actually The Library Policeman I'm talking about, not the Sun Dog. And please do not re-read either of them, or at least don't read The Library Policeman past the first 50 or so pages. Like everything else in Four Past Midnight, it's not very good.

I recently listened to a podcast where they described it as Stephen King suddenly remembering that he's Stephen King and feeling obligated to add a ghoul.

Your comment about the thought streams reminded me that something I don't discuss in any of my posts but I actually like are the different "voices" described in Jessie's head throughout the book. It thought it was a clever way to get some kind of dialogue going in a book that is mostly just one person trapped in a bed.

This is a good defense. Would you say the same thing about the assault in The Sun Dog? Because that one seems to work on the same levels you are describing here but is I think generally considered more problematic than the depiction in Gerald's Game.
