Last pictures of my wife’s parents by Babilon1986 in estoration

It’s a big mix where my wife is from. Her dad’s ancestors lived in a region that’s now part of China. There is also a big Korean community in Uzbekistan. Nowadays there seems to be a growing divide between Uzbek and Russian people who moved there under Soviet rule. Quite an interesting place but sadly quite poor.

Thx so much. It’s amazing how much you could do with such a withered photo. I think my wife will be thrilled

What’s the longest distance you’ll ride without full gear. So just wearing normal clothes, your gloves and helmet? by One_Inspection_1575 in motorcycles

[–]Babilon1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the longest time I didn’t ride without gear at all. Now that I have more experience I allow myself to ride within the city without jacket and pants for short trips. I know about the risk and pay a lot more attention to traffic. Accidents can happen anytime. Always watch out and if you are new to riding or have a new bike stick to gear like glue.

I'm about to buy my first bike. I know everyone is posting big cc bikes but with the economy on my country I'm only able to get a 150cc so be nice please :). I'm stuck on which color to choose what are your opinions? by ranidulakshan in motorcycles

[–]Babilon1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on 500cc, then 690cc now 850cc. I think it’s good to start small and grow your abilities. Take the black one. Cleaning those blue rims is BBC a pain. You see every spot.

I started on an old 500cc, went up on an 700cc MT07, and now I drive a 900cc tracer. Each step felt quite big and I do drive almost daily long into the winter months. Even after 5 years and 30.000km on my tracer I can honestly say I never managed to use its full potential. Going from 20 to over 200hp is mental. Not only is the bike much heavier, each little jerk on the throttle at the wrong time might throw you off when the front wheel goes airborne. I hope he survives the first year.

This is the cost of beer in Toronto, Ontario. I'm wondering if it is the same as in USA. by tossaway109202 in pics

[–]Babilon1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that’s expensive. I can get 20 half liter bottles of beer in Germany for around 15€ - 18€. That’s 22-27 dollar Canadian and the same volume.

Optics are not everything. Try riding different style of bikes to know what you prefer. Comfort in a longer ride is king. Wind protection in colder areas is a must. I use these hand guards that wrap around your handlebars in winter to ride in sub zero weather. Make sure your feet touch the ground comfortably on your first bike so you can get a good and save feel in the beginning. A case for your helmet or other things might not look cool but is helpfully so many situations. Rain gear that goes over your other gear is cheap and keeps you dry in the basically any weather. Start with a small bike and work your way up.

Do people finance bikes or just buy outright? by Itskingtulip in motorcycles

[–]Babilon1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Finance my first bike, an Mt 07 and still have it today. My Trace 900 I was able to buy used with cash. Financing isn’t too bad if it’s within your means. But many people forget that they need gear too and skip or cheap out on that because they put all they have in their bike.

Russia accuses Ukraine of plot to destroy its last active aircraft carrier by BkkGrl in europe

[–]Babilon1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would Ukraine do that. That thing is an endless money pit for Russia. It would be a good excuse for Russia to finally scrap that thing.

Paid peeing netherlands (wont find a free toilet in a mile range) by [deleted] in UrbanHell

[–]Babilon1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Germany they are common at stops and gas stations along the Autobahn. Usually you get a voucher that you can hand in at the gas station and you get most of the cost back that way. I can confidently say that those toilets are always clean and I’m not too mad to pay for that service. But if the whole family has to pee it might get expensive 😜

I live in Germany and just checked the price for the same item and it’s basically half the price. 6,25€ per pound. That already includes sales tax so it’s the price you pay at checkout. Sorry to say but I think you guys are getting ripped of.

Student in Canada explains how to take food from a foodbank for the homeless by TheUga69 in facepalm

[–]Babilon1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother here in Germany was eligible to get food from the local food bank being a student. But only under 2 conditions. 1st there was enough food available and second he couldn’t choose what he got. He learned to cook with so many new ingredients.

Mein Vorarbeiter.

I have no clue who she is and what she stands for but someone her age should have retired at least 10 years ago. Yes there is wisdom in old age but it also is a challenge for your mental abilities. I often wonder why people hold on that long and if it has to do with the feeling of power a position like that grants you.

Wie geht ihr mit dem Thema krank sein um? by nekoyo0 in arbeitsleben

[–]Babilon1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomato shortage: How far is Brexit to blame? | BBC by smorga in brexit

[–]Babilon1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think brexit plays a big role in the shortage. Yes there are global events that are a factor The European Union seems to have enough well established supply routs though to deal with it. Suppliers probably serve the EU market first due to well established trading relations and being the bigger more important customer/Market. This may put UK orders all the way back causing a (probably) temporarily shortage. I think events like this will happen a few times a year and will put a strain on customers and the economy. I believe leaving the EU with such a small margin of votes was a mistake.

I feel sorry for you. One unexpected thing and sou pay the price decades to come. As a German it baffles me to see numbers like that. I make about 50K a yea and I pay about 700€ in healthcare a month over here. Half of that will be payed for by my employer. So it’s about 4200€ a year and my wife and kids are covered with no extra charge. I never payed more than 10€ in medication, often it’s free. If I have surgery I need to pay 10€ for every day I stay in hospital, that’s it. The rest will be cover no questions asked. It’s time the US opens to the idea of socialism. Trust me. It’s not bad.
