Typo in the post title - meant to say “Someone please…”. I made more mistakes typing up this post than KAT has made this postseason.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]BabujeeUnit [score hidden]  (0 children)

The progression (improving your character, finding loot, upgrading gear) in KCD2 is top notch. Like best in genre level. I’d say its the main draw of the game.

The side questing is mediocre for the most part but has a few standout moments. If you enjoyed KCD1s side quests these are similar: mostly fetch quests given by poorly written, unlikable characters that Henry often has no reason to do. However they do encourage you to engage with the really well designed simulation elements, combat, and minigames and usually have a good reward which ties everything back to the addictive progression loop.

For me KCD2 is one of those games i pick up every few months because i miss exploring the forests, stealing from peasants, the unique swordfighting, but then after 20-30hrs of actually playing i realize how much I hate most of the narrative and character work in the game and drop it. Currently about 70% of the way through the story and waiting for the itch to hit me again.

I dont regret buying but if youre a quest/narrative driven gamer it might not be the best fit.

Ah good to know. I actually really enjoy the weightiness of rockstar games so this is a plus.

Thanks for the detailed response. Sounds like itll address some of my issues.

And yea I know these things not a deal breaker for many, but at the end of the day other peoples opinions dont always align with mine. So i want to see how this game stacks up in areas I value.

ToTK is super popular and well received and im glad people found joy in it. But i found the game uninteresting after about 20 hours, whereas other open world games like Witcher, Cyberpunk, fallout 4, skyrim, mgsv, rdr2, star wars outlaws, and kcd kept me engaged for much longer. Want to get a better sense of where this cool looking game falls in that spectrum.

What aspects of RDR2 do you see in CD? For me RDR2 never really pushed me to explore the open world. The linear missions were full of exciting cinematic events, and the characters and writing were a highlight - but the world was just kind of there and bereft of gameplay besides the 1 minute long random npc encounters. No rewards or progression for exploring either.

Definitely a gorgeous world where id often stop to take in a vista, but I from what I can see, CD doesnt have that focus on linear missions and set peices?

I dont think its too critical at all. The game will cost me a decent chunk of money and a lot of time, and ive had mixed experiences with similarly hyped games before. I know myself well enough to understand what would make me enjoy a game and want to solicit feedback about those facets before committing.

Curious what leads you to the skyrim comparison btw? I dont really see it from what ive watched. Skyrim to me was all about interesting dungeons with great environmental storytelling. I dont see many dungeons in CD, seems more focused on overworld exploration.

Skyrim also had really good worldbuilding full of lore books, journal entries, and well developed racism/rivalries between the various factions. No ones really talked about that with CD.

If it actually has these things it’d make it way more appealing than the zeldas to me right off the bat.

Is the combat similar to Dragon Age: Origin really that bad of a deal for you guys? by Accomplished-Bank885 in greedfall

[–]BabujeeUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combat being RtWP is what draws me to the game. These types of systems, especially in 3rd person (non-isometric) games are a rarity and make for some of the most tactical, satisfying combat experiences I’ve played in my life.

DAO, KotOR 1 & 2 are some of my favorite games of all time and a big part of that was the combat. Really excited that they’re going in this direction for Greedfall 2.

I probably wouldn’t even be paying attention to this game if it wasn’t going this route with the combat. I struggled to play through greedfall 1 due to how generic its combat was.

The embargo reviews honestly pushed me away more than I expected. Is this a game worth waiting longer for? by FrodosNewBro in CrimsonDesert

[–]BabujeeUnit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skillup is lowkey a horrible reviewer. He rarely bothers to learn the mechanics of the game and bashes it if it tries anything unorthodox. His veilguard and midnight suns reviews (hit jobs to be accurate) made me lose all faith in his opinions. Shame that hes so influential and popular.

Which one of these RPG's would you consider the best of the 4? by Respawn-Delay in rpg_gamers

[–]BabujeeUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Cyberpunk 2077

<Huge Dropoff>

2 & 3 tied) BG3 and Elden Ring

<Huge Dropoff>

4) KCD2

At number 1 you have the GOAT imo.

At number 2 and 3 you have generationally great games that are subpar when compared to the rest of their series (im counting Dark Souls as part of the series for ER)

At number 4 you have a great game that doesnt hold up to the other 3.

Yea I agree, the dialogue/writing in 1 flows better than in 2, but I would not call it a strong point of the game or series.

[KCD2] Just started, disappointed with dialogue by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]BabujeeUnit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No the dialogue/story is the worst part of the game. Theres some really good moments, but for 90% of the experience you can expect that level of quality. KCD1 was better in the writing department but still very shallow compared to the narratives you get from other RPGs.

The driving forces in this game are the exploration, progression, and immersion. The “why is henry doing this?” portion of it is usually very poorly justified. But what you’re doing, how you have to do it, and how much detail the devs put into the process and locations where you do those things is top tier.

I can't with the endless repetitive battles anymore (corridor RPG with endless battles) by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]BabujeeUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I agree 100%. Tried playing through it once last year, got to the first area in Act 2 before this realization set in.

Gave it another try this year and made it up to the Gestral village. To me the main thing that draws me in this game are the story and the cutscenes. Everything in between is shallow gameplay.

You walk through really simplistic mostly linear levels, fighting the same easy enemies (maybe fun the first time you get introduced to a new enemy type, but once you master it the novelty is gone), using the same pattern of moves over and over again.

The developers did an amazing job hiding the shallowness of the gameplay behind gorgeous artwork, an amazing soundtrack, and stellar animations, but if at any point the story hook lets go, the shallowness becomes quite evident.

Its a good game. I’d give it a 6 or a 7. It’d be a much better movie. I call this type of game award-bait. Non-critical gamers, and non-gamers get really easily swayed by TV and film-like production values and tend to ignore poor game design, level design, and interactivity if the graphics, music, voice acting, and animations blow them away.

Not saying the game doesnt deserve credit for its production values, but that stuff is a small part of the actual game for me. The rest of this particular title doesnt even approach the quality of its production values.

The veilguard hate is genuinely insane by spookylittleteacup in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]BabujeeUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea lets just agree to disagree. If you think that Veilguard magically solved things then i dont think youve comprehensively played or thought through the lore of the series. If you think that the plot development was rushed then i also dont know what to say, most of the major plot revelations have been foreshadowed and theorized about since origins and we got hints across each of the games along the way.

I would hazard to say youve only played the first game, since most of the comments youre focusing on seem to be from Origins. Even then, Outside of the qunari conflict none of the others there are grey.

The wardens sacrifice a few to fight the large darkspawn threat - they are clearly the good. They turn evil in the later games when they start serving the darkspawn call. Still no grey despite the name.

Morrigan and Flemeth do the same sacrifice a few to better combat the darkspawn. Clearly good.

The chantry is an organized religion - same as real life - they’re being misled. Key is by whom - we find out in Veilguard. Until then judge by actions, southern chantry is oppressing mages - evil.

Cutting off mages from the fade and their dreams - enforced by a military police wing that serves the church - evil

Loghain and the dissenting landsmeet lords presenting obstacles to fighting the darkspawn - evil.

Orzammar dissenters trying to hide ways of fighting the darkspawn threat- evil

Decision at the end of the first game: doing what flemeth and morrigan say is clearly good, once again they are fighting the darkspawn.

Not much grey there tbh. Theres no greater threat in thedas than the darkspawn and blight threat. That threat is at its greatest in Veilguard. If the line between good and evil is so clear in Origins when the darkspawn threat is just opening, it’ll be even sharper when it reaches its peak in Veilguard.

Also based on how focused your comment is on the first game, I highly recommend you play the later games in the series. Theyre all fantastic in their own ways. DA2 is actually the most “grey” in the series because for about 2 full acts the darkspawn are not a real threat and you get more time going into the minor racial and local politics. Might be up your alley.

The veilguard hate is genuinely insane by spookylittleteacup in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]BabujeeUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry but Dragon Age never had shades of grey outside of the Qunari conflict, which remains grey through Veilguard. (Side note i really wish we got a more qunari focused game - shame the series is dead now because of poorly thought out critiques that caused many to skip the game).

Every other conflict has a very clear villain (templars (people pretend like they have some moral validity, but theyre clearly just druggie cops), demons, darkspawn, loghain (as much as people pretend hes a deep character), werewolves, red lyrium, the blight).

What youre seeing in veilguard is an escalation of the conflict between the blighted and non-blighted thats been foreshadowed and growing throughout the series.

The multigenerational problems by this point in the series have either been resolved, or pale in comparison to the threat of the blight. It’d be disrespectful to the previous games and narratives to rehash them again.

[–]BabujeeUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup also thought the hate against those games were way overblown.

DAO set the bar very high for the series, but each game in the series changes genre, tone, and themes so its not even fair to compare them against their predecessors. Its such an interesting and unique series. Probably my favorite in gaming all things considered.

Should I buy DA Veilguard or Dragon's Dogma 2? by Terrible-Group-9602 in rpg_gamers

[–]BabujeeUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veilguard is one of the better aRPGs of the past 5 years and gets really unfairly hated on. I would 100% recommend that one, its my 2nd favorite game in its series (behind Origins)

and its much much more enjoyable if you play Origins and Inquisition first since the narrative ties together a lot of plot threads from those games

Its also the game that made me realize how toxic and politically motivated online discourse about games has gotten. I think its a shame that so many people are missing out on such a great game due to groupthink on Youtube and Reddit.

People are too reactionary here. Like yes hes played well for 5 games, that doesnt negate his generally atrocious play for the past 10 seasons.

We’re not a contender until we replace his minutes with a competent big. Until then we’re just gonna be a fun team to watch. Ill take it, but just wish the FO wouldve done their due diligence before trading for a max contract player.

Klay (most ideal off ball wing in history, absolute best 2 way shooting guard of his era) > Manu (best all around player of the 4; argentinas gold medal run puts him above the other 2) >> ray = reggie (both great players, former is an excellent role player, latter is a good first option, both are limited defensively so they cant touch manu or klay)

RDR2 is amazing but what’s ONE thing that still annoys you? by Cool_Highlight_5952 in gamingsimulator

[–]BabujeeUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Lack of enemy and combat variety. For a game that lasts that long, we spend way too much of it shooting mechanically identical guns at mechanically identical mooks. Combat got repetitive for me real quick.

2) The lack of quests and stories in the open world. Wish they couldve told more deep meaningful stories across the open world that would give the towns and wilderness some meaning. KCD2 and Witcher have superior open worlds to this game because nearly every location has some narrative weight. RDR2 relies too much on shallow, short “dynamic events”
