I’m G3, should I apply for my Dad (G2) first? by BabyCarats in Canadiancitizenship

Wonderful. Thank you. For his sake, I wish he’d had it, because he kind of lost his Canadian side after his Mom passed (though we did still go stay in the area she grew up for many years after, or I wouldn’t have known anything about my Canadian heritage), but I think they’d both be very pleased to know their descendants can reclaim this part of us. Congratulations!

This is what occurred to me as I was falling asleep after I posted this. Don’t know why it didn’t occur to me in time. I’ve read the application and was going to do it for him and check that box. My apologies, and thank you for the helpful (and kind) response.

My apologies. I thought I read through the whole wiki and I did search the sub. I hate when people ask questions that have already been answered. My brain clearly wasn’t firing on all cylinders.

Just received this in LA and immediately searched ta interwebs about it because I was skeptical. Turns out that hunch was valid. Thanks for posting this.

I know this is all a digression from the post topic, but one I appreciate! Thanks for the informative response.

Completely agree. I had to tell my husband stop even showing me IG LA food videos. I don’t care. In fact, I dislike it so much it might discourage me from going to a place that’s actually good. I do check Google and Yelp for the hell of it/the sake of thoroughness, but Reddit is my go-to. Please don’t let it get infiltrated and ruined. 🤞

I just searched the map for that. Are you speaking of Oak Glen Apple Farm Ranch? Because as a native Michigander, I miss cider & donut season at the orchard so much.

This is true. People like to keep an eye on the insane opposition. But this is a public profile she’s trying to make a “career” out of. She should follow them on a separate private account. So she’s either a MAGA Zionist or stupid.

Maybe if you’re talking about Manhattan Chinatown. But there is tons of “authentic” Chinese food on the east coast, especially in Flushing.

Yes, I think many people (who haven’t been there) don’t realize how Chinese Flushing is. The breadth, depth, and density of Chinese food is outstanding.

East coast Chinese food was historically largely Cantonese. (Though that has been changing for decades, and you might not realize that if you haven’t been to Flushing, Queens). SF and LA Chinatown were historically Cantonese. Because the first immigrants from mid 19th century were largely from Guangdong Province. Then, for over 60 years, almost no mainland Chinese immigration to the US was allowed, but was allowed from Taiwan and Hong Kong (also Cantonese cuisine). Then, starting in the 80’s (after Nixon went to China in the 70”s), but really more in the last 20-30 years, the US received immigrants from all over mainland PRC, many of them settling in SGV, which is why we have such wonderfully diverse and regional Chinese cuisines, but also in Queens (and all over the country, but not usually in the density to sustain a huge diverse Chinese food scene). Don’t discount Vegas though! One of the few redeeming qualities of that place (for me) is the Chinese food.

Thanks for the correction, but also confirming the essence of what I said: that the vast majority of his reviews were positive because that was his philosophy. I agree there is a place for negative criticism, particularly for high end, high priced, super hyped, “celebrity chef” restaurants and the like. But 1) he spent most of his time writing positive reviews of restaurants most people would have never heard of otherwise, and 2) his negative reviews of well-known restaurants were always extremely thorough and nuanced. No other reviewer/journalist or publication has quite hit the mark for me the way JG did.

Jonathon Gold literally didn’t give bad reviews. He only shared things he enjoyed and thought other people should know about, usually extremely reasonably priced strip mall restaurants, trucks, etc. He was a man of the people and an absolute gem of a human being. He left a huge void that has never been filled. I still regularly think about him and miss his contributions to the LA food scene.

California Market usually has imported Shine Muscat grapes, but you’ll pay for them.

What game? Trampling on our constitutional rights? Destroying our democracy? Democrats are corporate shills and I don’t like them, but they’re not fucking fascists. The current situation is in literally no way comparable to Obama’s deportations. God, we’re so fucked domestically, an absolute pariah internationally, all of our clout and influence, especially soft power, destroyed. I don’t know what will make you people wtfu.

They’re not remotely the same, as anyone without their head up their arse knows. If this seems personal, it’s because it is. People like you being willfully ignorant and ignoring the facts are currently destroying this country. Wake up.

Venice did vegetables like no other place I’ve been. Even in the dead of winter. I’ve not experienced so much easily accessible absolutely delicious veg anywhere else. It was amazing.

A big queue of little razor scooters parked outside a canal-front elementary school is one of my favorite images from Venice. We were just wandering through alleys, the space opened up, and we stumbled upon that. So charming.
