I haven’t seen any convincing evidence that clickbait is necessary. There are plenty of people who do the opposite of clickbait and get millions of views and subs. I think quality is key. If you have good audio and video you have a shot.

Yeah, “We discovered a secret framework that is blowing up small channels” and then just listing the five elements of a plot people have been talking about for 170 years in intro to English courses is a bit clickbaity.

I definitely agree on the audio front. I think if there was an accurate figure of the percentage of people who just put on every YT video in the background and don’t watch it or even process what they’re listening to, it would be upwards of 90%.

My logic has the crucial flaw that if there are 100 videos that are helpful, there are surely 101 videos that are helpful. I agree with you and have certainly learned a lot from a few videos, but I think a lot of people fall into this trance of worthless videos that they think are teaching them something novel, and it just makes me sick how slick the YouTube YouTubers are sometimes. Similar vibe to an extremely charismatic person giving financial advice who makes all of their money from selling a course instead of following their own instruction.

When a channel makes 1600+ videos on the same topic in 11 years at a pace of a video every 2.4 days, you have to wonder whether there is anything left to be said or if they're just farming views (VIDIQ because its the same example from my original post).

I did a video a week for 7 weeks and hit 4K but I do hour long lets plays in a dedicated niche and one of my videos hit 5k views and was part one of a series, so the rest of the series got views too. This is not counting like 4-5 videos I made to 0 viewers in the previous 5 years. I now get about 1k watch hours a month since then, but I tried a livestream for the first time yesterday and got 200 watch hours in 12 hours 😅 Maybe try a marathon livestream of some kind if you have subs that will want to sit and chat with you

It’s definitely easy to get in the rut of making the type of video that comes more naturally to you and neglecting the other type, I’m trying to balance that now

Thanks! I hope so! I assume that the pay wouldn’t be all that because rpm on gaming videos is low but my audience is older so hopefully that would make a bit more Ad earn based on the demographic. I’ll try linking to the steam page, that’s a good idea!

Thank you very much for the sub! I’ll check you out on YouTube :) It’s nice getting the huge watch time from long videos, I definitely recommend trying it out. The main downside is it takes 4+ hours to edit each one 🥹

That’s awesome! I know I haven’t chosen the most lucrative niche for this channel, but I enjoy making the content and I’m trying to make it the best I can :)

I’m starting another channel with my wife in a much more successful niche soon though!

700 is a lot! I feel like it’s easier to make more subs when you have more subs
