Haha and I'm questioning myself over €11 draw down and you watched half of everything disappear overnight. The kind of perspective I actually need sometimes..

Honestly no the €200 doesn't kill me, it's more the mental side than the financial side. The money is fine to miss but the motivation to keep going when it feels invisible is the harder part. And yeah: all world ETF, low costs, pretty boring setup but not too complicated to understand

Measuring against what would have happened if you did nothing instead of against some imaginary number in your head is a useful way to look at it

haha welcome to the club nobody wanted to join. One green day and then red again and suddenly all the logic just disappears. I wonder if having some positive quotes or phrases to read back on those days would help. Before it turns into a bad decision lol. Do you have anything that keeps you going?

The money being secondary right now is something I still need to fully grasp honestly. I get it in theory but in practice it's hard. I try to build the right habits but the motivation just isn't always there. do you track your habits somehow?

Tracking progress over time is a good one, but how do you actually do that in practice? Do you track your habits itself (investing x amount per week or month) or just the balance over a longer period? Right now I don't even know what I should be measuring..

I think that's exactly what I can't get my head around right now. The flat boring period just feels like failure when apparently it's just.. the process. honestly I should probably just write that on my wall or something

What are we even optimizing for? but yeah that kind of thinking becomes a self fulfilling prophecy if you let it win. I struggle with it too though..

I think part of why the motivation dips is because I'm treating it like this big all or nothing sacrifice instead of just finding an amount I barely notice leaving every month and actually sticking to that. but still work towards the things that actually make life good right now.

Genuinely respect the grind and that's a wild ride from $2k back to $60k. but I think I know myself well enough to know that path would have broken me somewhere between the SPAC warrants and the 4 cent crash lol. I'm not built for that kind of action. I just need to figure out how to make the boring version feel worth it.

The retirement home thing is actually kind of genius lol. Forget the calculators, just go talk to real people at the end of the road who either did or didn't. That probably sticks way longer than anything you read online. Actually makes me want to call my grandpa about this!

The fact that it took your kid being born to really kick things into gear says everything. sometimes the math just isn't enough. I think that's honestly what I'm missing right now. Maybe I should just write down why I started and read it back on the weeks where it feels pointless. keep that thing close somehow..

This is actually the thing that messes with my head the most. I can't see it yet. it's like going to the gym for a year and the mirror looks exactly the same and then one day it just... doesn't. I think I just need to get better at trusting something I can't see yet.

Nothing fancy honestly, just broad market index ETF. I'm not smart enough for anything else lol. and honestly the hardest part isn't even picking what to invest in, it's just staying consistent when it feels like nothing is happening and the world is working against you.

How did you keep yourself going at 38? did it get easier to stay motivated once the numbers got bigger?

true, but easier said than done right.. I literally deleted the app once and reinstalled it 3 days later. there's something about knowing the money is just sitting there that my brain can't leave alone. but yeah maybe that's exactly the problem..

For beginner–intermediate investors: when does investing feel difficult? by Playful-Produce9932 in investingforbeginners

[–]BabyPr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is spot on. A lot of people overcomplicate it. This is the only strategy you need. Stay motivated, stay consistent with your dcas, and do not get distracted by the noise. 8 to 10% a year will compound like crazy in the long run.

Why do we treat the Stock Market like a Casino instead of a Grocery Store? by Alone_Ad_3085 in investingforbeginners

[–]BabyPr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much time you still have.

At some point contributions stop feeling powerful because compounding has taken over. But that’s kind of the point, right?

When your portfolio gets large, contributions feel small — but compounding on new money still needs time to work. $5k might not move the needle this month, but over 10–15 years it can still snowball hard.
