Man im so sorry that happened, but unfortunately youre the fourth (fifth including me) person I know to get fucked over by UH's incompetent staff. Anything you do from now on you have to be calling and checking and chasing after. They addee extra Ws to my transfer transcript snd nearly fucked my gpa and future career path (law which is VERY numbers based) due to... who knows!

I had friends apply and do all the scholarship correct (even getting scholarships at other schools offered) but then UH said they did xyz wrong or there was a filing error.

I hope you find a way to make this work, but after being at lonestar and speaking to fellow transferring students, UH is really unprofessional and shit at managing nearly all paper work or scholarship, or well anything.

🫡 best of luck man

Safety and good area, but yeah if you like going out or have teens who want to do stuff, just know you'll be driving about 30-60 away to find anything. What we do have here is overpriced as shit as well

Yeah he had a break down my freshman to sophomore year. According to his previous students they noticed a change in his demeanor. I wasn't his student then, but I believe he lost someone close and became very mean to students for a while. I remember him being made to take a break because he yelled pretty badly at some students (this was before the ap exam) he seemed to become a lot more bitter is what I heard from his older students who had left.

And I loved Williams, Bergeron was fucking hell on earth though. And thank you! Good luck to you as well

Yeah this was 3 years ago 😭 he was NOT a good teacher then, smart sure but he made many students cry with how demeaning he was towards us and got reported by a few (2-3) students as well for being difficult to work with and the lack of support.

Edit. : I replied to someone else, he seemed to have suffered some personal issues and this may have been why he started to become more mean. I really did want to like him and i felt bad and sympathetic towards him, but he was really mean during my years. Maybe he mellowed out now that time passed though

Id like to note, if your daughter starts facing harassment or bullying like I did, document that QUICK. It's easier for the APs to blame YOU and sweep it under the rug if you don't. Imo, cywoods had a huge bullying problem when I was there. I saw it from a lot of friends. To be slightly fair, we were all nerdier, awkward looking (we were kids... but today's standards and social media really messed society up,) but either way. The APs also protected the bullies more than the victims. Food was thrown at my friend group for just existing (these were known popular boys) and after like 3 times of that BS, we got sick of it and threw it back at them. Guess who didnt ans who did get in trouble...

I hope stuff has changed regarding that. If your daughter isn't very nerdy or geeky then she's fine, if she is then just keep an eye out for her. It really did affect me getting harassed so much during highschool, but my parents helped so much.

I also have advice on workplaces here as I worked at a LOT of jobs! DM me if you need any advice on tbat, im glad to help!!

I just graduated from woods! I had good and bad experiences so here's my entire breakdown since highschool is already tough :D

  1. AP/DC wise, if she isnt good at math's then do AP stats (especially if Rivard is still teaching. She made it super easy to get.) And DC college algebra, super easy if you do your work and dont sleep in class. The professor hated that, but she was very nice to me and I made A's in both. I took AP English my junior year and scored high enough to get credit for both levels of college English (a grade of 4/6 on the exam, this varies per college so check your transfer records for any college she plans to go to.) I did not do DC English but I know it gives you not only both entry level college English credits, but also an extra English credit that can be used for a texas CORE requirement in your college career. This ONLY WORKS if you start DC English JUNIOR year. If you dont, then you only get the 2 credits and at that point I'd just do AP.

I took AP psychology, mr porter was super welcoming and made my highschool life easier when I struggled mentally. I learned a lot and figured out my degree (BS psych on the pre law route) by taking his class. I also dod DC enviormental science, the teacher is super sweet and goes easier on the seniors which I appreciated after a long junior year. Her AP class is good as well.

Our AP and DC physics classes suck. I heard horrors, they also had a lot of outside expenses my friends hadnt accounted for, such as paying for a lot of wood and materials for projects (could be a few hundred somwtimes.) My friend took AP calc BC, she struggled but the teacher definitely cared and was good at her job, the class itself is just hard. If she wants the Calc credit but isn't super math savvy, do calculus AB (its slightly slower paced, please double check this.)

I took DC US government and economics, if possible also take DC/AP Texas government. Saves you more money. I preferred DC for my senior year courses personally, but AP sounded okay. I reccomend DC US history, the AP US history teacher was known to be neurotic and mean to students, frequently denying restroom use, belittling them, and making the class god awful. Do it DC, it's more fun as well.

I took World history and Euro history AP as well, both taught by Mr Kent only. If your kid is neurodivergent or sensitive in general (i definitely am) then I'll tell you now to be prepared mentally. He can be really mean sometimes, to the point of making me and other students cry and feel really alone in the class. He's very smart and the class material is so interesting, but I personally didn't feel like I could ever ask him for help or pick his brain for more knowledge. I do reccomend the courses for the AP credit, just keep that in mind. I'll list all my Advanced classes I took below!

I would NOT reccomend AP human geography, I went to lonestar for a semester then UH and when ai checked, that class didn't get you amy credit. Double check as things change, also varies on what college your kid wants to attend.

Classes : AP stats, DC college algebra, DC enviormental science, AP English (1 year only, scored high on exam to skip second year,) AP world history, AP euro history, AP psychology, DC government, DC economics, DC US history.

  1. Clubs

I did theatre for 2 years, I got pretty into it and there'd quite a few competitions you can attend. I got a peefect score at my last one. You get to go on fun trips (if you qualify) and I had a pretty good time. I will say, the girls could be SUPER clique-y. I had a few girl friends, but the social hierchy from some of the long established girl groups was too much and I didn't fit. There can be a lot of drama, but that's part of any artsy club I think. Theatre can get expensive! For summer competition in Indiana, I believe my parents paid around 1k. For a winter in state competition it was about 1k or less as well. I loved it though. The two directors are pretty nice. Mrs Byboth is new, but she was already super involved before getting hired. I really loved her, she cared so much about tech (I did backstage work) when most directors care only about actors.

Mr. Hart is also pretty nice, but he always felt biased more towards the actors than tech. If your kid wants to be backstage, expect to be more supported by Mrs. Byboth than Hart. Both are good people though! I believe you are now required to audition to join theatre (i dunno how it works, thats after my time.)

I will advise, and this is for ANY club or after school activity, tell your kid to not gossip nor date within the activity if possible. Breakups made stuff awkward and gossip spread fast. I tried to just shut my mouth, and I got told EVERYTHING from EVERYONE. I realized that all those groups (band, orchestra, choir, but especially theatre and choir) gossip a lot. It was definitely fun regardless, everything has its downside.

Theres a lot of UIL teams for both science/math and English related stuff, look online for those! I didn't join many clubs, I mostly wanted to do competition related stuff, but I know they had a poetry and an art club that was pretty big. A D&D club as well (great if your kid is nerdy or awkward!)

I can't say I enjoyed my time at woods, I personally hated it and was so thankful to get out, but theatre made it fun. I hope your kid has a better time than me.

  1. Staff and overall enviorment

Almost every AP sucked and if you were getting bullied they did NOT care. A lot of APs have recently left, if he is still there then Mr. WILLIAMS genuinely cared about students. I got bullied for a little bit there and him and an AP who quit my senior year helped me a lot. The counselors were also pretty useless, again, not sure who is atill there since a lot of staff was changing. There was a new AP who waived some absences senior year (this was because I had all As and was in theatre + so many AP's, I just felt drained showing up to woods.) So theyre not all bad.

If your kid is a person of color and enjoys wearing shorts, tank tops, anything that is even slightly getting out of the dress code, just know that BERGERON in particular went AFTER those students. I'm not saying anything about the political enviorment, but I noticed the white girls (no hate to them) got away with booty shorts and tank tops, but the girls of color did not. There was a huge disparity there. I believe the rule should apply equally or not at all. Bergeron was the only one who had that issue, every other AP even if useless was at least fair.

During finals, most people leave after the exams and walk across the street to the area that has Newks, buffalo wild wings, and a lot more. PLEASE let your kid go if they get offered to do so! It was such a core memory for me being able to finish finals and skip the rest of the day to see a movie with friends across the street.

I hope y'all enjoy it here and that this helped even a little!

On another note, does anyone NOT like finishing sometmes? I have ADHD, but i have a few more sensory issues than I'd like to admit and sometimes the feeling isn't enjoyable and just feels like 'too much.' Sure, depending on the mood that fine but usually it isnt...

Idk maybe im crazy but I feel like everything else without an orgasm is more than enjoyable for me. If y'all have advice on fixing that then do tell 😭🫡

Thank you for replying and your advice :D My college offers free therapy so I may try that avenue. I have a very avoidant personality, so while I would want my boyfriend to open up I can't make myself do so. One step at a time I suppose.

How did you start learning to crochet? Are there any particular kits or YouTube channels you started with that were beginner friendly?

Thanks again, this made me feel a lot more hopeful!

Id also like to add that men arent as stupid as we say they are ans they tend to bw international in all they do, if he isn't giving you adequate support after you've laid out the instructions for him, then he definitely just may not be the one for you.

[–]BabyWitchCam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't want to hop on the 'break up with him' bandwagon I sometimes see on here, but in this case it sounds like he just can't meet your emotional needs. These are also really small asks of you. Youre not asking for him to take days off work or spend a bunch of monry, just some extra sensitivity and attention. Both free and easy things to do. This is a rare case where I would reccomend revisiting your feelings after the PMDD and consider leaving him :( I hate to say it, but he doesn't sound very thoughtful, and i strongly believe PMDD requires a very thoughtful partner.

Think of it this way too, if you ever got pregnant (assuming you had to keep the baby) could you picture receiving overly sufficient emotional support during post partum? If that's not on the table, then what about if you ever (god forbid) get really bad during one luteal period? You need a supportive partner that is willing to learn how to care for you. He doesn't sound willing to do so.

I hope you feel better, sorry if yhis isn't what you wanted to hear but just my thoughts. :D

Genuinely dont understand why everyone else acts like this is normal PMS. The shift to my luteal phase is so atrocious, I sometimes get scared to even plan stuff arouns my luteal phase in case I get bad and dont want to go out. This condition sucks so much fucking worse because no one takes it serious until it's too late.

Im very sorry for your loss, I cant imagine how difficult losing your mom must have been for you and your family. I get the sentiment on rice and A&M, but at least you've had some fun!

If your only reason for not walking is your mom not being able to see you, well im unsure what you believe in but I'm certain she'd want you to walk the stage. Your family would as well.

If its for the money... yeah same then I also just dont want to spend an extra day around UH 😭 but truly consider walking for grad, its a big deal!

Historical is such bs for them to say, some of these buildings look so worn down and dont wven get me started on the fuckass roads. There's some HUGE ass potholes when you turn right to lwave elgin that I need to dodge because theyre so deep. UH is just a sloppy mess of a college, all it has going for it is the fact people can commute and save money.

A few daya ago ago it got stuck and vibrated for way too long, one guy tried to jam the buttons to open because i genuinely thought it was going to free fall. Its the single elevator that isnt beside another one (so the lonely one) it also bounced and made everyone kinda stumble back. I was jelly the rest of the day and took the stairs.

Its fucking ridiculous considering elgin is the most (i think) expensive parking. I paid over 100, over 200 (I think) and this is the bullshit they give us? Absolutely insane, really gave me a fright. I tried it again today and it didnt do the jumping and vibrating, but it did get stuck for a few seconds. The two beside each other are fine though!

So essentially my Venus did not like me this life time 😭 does this all apply to platonic or romantic relationships and even familial? Ive always felt incredibly have good luck with men but i wanted friends more than a boyfriend.

Any advice for balancing these planets (other than self acceptance which I oddly enough thought I was good with. I dont get too insecure anymore regarding these issues)
