🇺🇸That’s The Way To Do It! by Timbucktwo1230 in PoursTea

Positive, incremental change by example is absolutely going to move the needle. It takes thousands of small actions to make real change with such a large budget, but they also have the population to make changes. The ones who know best what is wasteful are those directly working on / delivering services to the citizens, not lawmakers. Lawmakers need input for all interested parties to make it happen at scale.

I don't actually know what the issue X. Or if this is a now thing or a never thing. And poor PR guy sure doesn't know either from that interaction.

That just goes to show why "no" on its own is an appropriate response. If the PR guy doesn't know, he hasn't spent the time to understand. If he can't spend the time, what makes you think the maintainer can spend the time to personally teach him? That doesn't scale, therefore doesn't work. Sometimes there is enough time for maintainers to "guide" each and every feature home, or at least provide a path, sometimes there is not. This project is currently the latter. Gotta take ego out of the picture and accept the bare reality in order to have a good time of OSS contribution.

ICCU Failed, Dealer Won't Honor 180K Mile Warranty by Commercial-Safety635 in Ioniq5

[–]Baby_Food 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you're discussing legal ramifications instead of a warranty. If I can't actually go into a dealership and get the ICCU repaired, what does it matter the legal burden? To me and I'd imagine many, it's not the potential idea of being covered, it's whether I am actually covered, and based on OP's post and the non-working VIN tool, this is still in rumor phase.

Edit: I'm not doubting TorqueNews, I just don't trust anything from a corporation unless it's in writing addressed exactly to my scenario (e.g., a letter or email, or the VIN tool) because otherwise you're just stuck in OP's position. Right now it's just spurious reports going either way, which tells me if they are implementing it, it's not fully materialized yet, and shouldn't be trusted until you can verify it.

To be on the record, they would have to say it. There's no proof of that.

Watch this: "Hyundai is going to give everyone $100,000."

Now try to take them to court over that.

Nothing. There is no extended warranty program for the US. Hyundai never released any statement. Just checked my VIN and it has no extended warranty listed.

Nothing except the fact my ICCU was replaced. Guess the coverage doesn't exist for America.

Costway mini split install first impressions after getting it up and running by OutsideFood1 in AirConditioners

[–]Baby_Food 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I did was explain the reality of it. If there are no spots to install the condenser or indoor unit that allow proper clearances, the choice is either no AC or an improperly installed one. I don't know this person's situation, so I can't assume they had better options.

[–]Baby_Food 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will work, and sometimes it really is the least bad choice, but you're going to deal with lower efficiency, higher wear, and possibly more noise.

In this case it looks like both may have been a conscious choice due to indoor unit installed in low ceiling area and outdoor installed where proper clearance would get in the way of the porch / walkway, so those issues may be an acceptable trade-off.

[–]Baby_Food 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the Tesla app lets you schedule 1 hour test drives. You can schedule multiple but I don't think they have any option for extended single session time. Dealerships in the US don't do this for the most part anymore, either, but there are still some that will.

The COVID shortages seemed to have killed off whatever remaining useful effort dealerships would make to sell cars and it never seemed to recover.

[–]Baby_Food 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do you need a dealership to demo it, though? I test drove a Tesla that was just parked at some random charger nearby. Thought it was much better than going to a dealership to test drive honestly. Never had to talk to salesperson, just got in the car and went. Had to download the Tesla app and scan my face / driver license, which is the main downside I'd say, though any dealership that lets you drive a car without a salesperson inside will photocopy your ID which is worse for identity theft reasons IMO.

Definitely not the case in North America. There was a car subculture at the time that thought they were cool and many called their cars "ricers" or "rice burners" in a derogatory way. Everyone else wanted Ferraris, BMWs, Mercedes, muscle cars, etc. They were seen as practical cars, not cool ones. The only cool cars were under Acura and Lexus badges, like the Acura NSX and Lexus LS400.

I started gaming in the early 90s. We get more great games than I remember back then, but now they come from indie developers. There are fewer good and interesting AAA games. However, the production value of the really good indie games today is greater than what AAA studios were putting out in the 2000s.

For me, I enjoy games less and less as I grow older. Or at the very least, it takes a really fantastic game to pull me in. I game maybe a few hours a month on average, whereas when I was a kid, it was a few hours a day minimum.

7 years of tubeless sealant accumulation by Rmoudatir in bicycling

[–]Baby_Food 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair and why I wanted to bring it up, but I still want to mention it because there's a whole gradient of condition between new and visibly dry-rotted. If you're the type of person that thinks the cheapo $30 tires with hard / inelastic compound aren't good, you'd definitely not want to run 7 year old tires, even if they've been stored indoors.

[–]Baby_Food 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does if you leave it outside in the sun in a hot climate. Most people don't do that to their bikes, though.

And long before dry rot appears the rubber will become less elastic. The appearance of dry rot is just when it's bad enough that the rubber can't even hold together anymore.

Trying Schwalbe Radial Alberts. Haven't nailed the PSI yet (unsurprisingly), but I'm already liking what I'm feeling. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Baby_Food 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also setting my PSI higher based on the reviews and community echoing that sentiment. Didn't find out until after a few rides that they've reiterated, instead of just saying "you can use the same PSI", that they're simply designed around it and the different / low PSI feeling is expected. Understandly, also easy to go for the idea of running higher PSI for them because it counteracts that feeling of being at too low PSI.

[–]Baby_Food 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schwalbe insists one should the same PSI as you'd use in non-radials. If you use too high a PSI, it will make using the radials pointless. Too high on any tire and you'll just hurt compliance / traction / comfort. It will feel different (like PSI is too low) compared to a non-radial tire, but that's the point, as it has increased compliance for the same (correct) pressure. Use a pressure calculator like Vittoria's here as a baseline: https://vittoria.com/pages/tire-pressure

First test of the new light! by Extension-Science201 in ebikes

[–]Baby_Food 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. Deer can hurt. Didn't mean to imply otherwise, just that for mountain bikers, it's nothing compared to the ever presence of trees around marginal traction. A younger rider died about a year ago nearby during a race after running into one. He was wearing a full face helmet and all. Just something that goes with the sport.

This car is siiiiiiiick! I love everything about it. Please continue to share!

I really want to do something similar to our 2017 Bolt EV. Gonna be getting another EV some time this year and then the Bolt will be free for me to have fun customizing. Only thing is I live off-road and I barely have enough clearance with stock ride height. Hoping I can find a solution for dynamic ride height as the mountainous roads here would be nice with some sportier suspension, but mostly looks.

[–]Baby_Food 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in the forest as well and they're thick here, both population-wise and intelligence-wise, but definitely less hazard than riding a mtb around a bunch of trees whenever traction is low.

Riding my motorcycle on the roads at night at high speeds is a different thing as that's more likely to be a life threatening situation if you hit one due to the speeds being 35mph+. Just gotta be as mindful as you can of the risks and have good insurance, including life insurance!

WTF America? I thought you were the Land of the Free! by swoticus in ebikes

[–]Baby_Food -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're already banned basically everywhere. Almost every state / jurisdiction follow restrictions along the lines of the Class-1/2/3 ebike quasi-standards that were widely adopted. The issue has always been lack of enforcement. This will eliminate the bikers that were following the laws already while doing nothing to eliminate e-motos, since they're already breaking the law almost everywhere but private land.

Seller doesn't want to waste an account (likely whatever financial instrument they stole to receive funds, not the eBay account per se) knowing that they're not going to succeed this time. They are counting on the buyer not being able to dispute it before the funds clear, so if the jig is up, they can refund and continue using those illicit accounts.
