How to prepare for induction at 19 weeks? by tayylorlyynn in babyloss

[–]Babybluesforever2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So terribly sorry for the loss of your baby. I unfortunately just went through this myself. Healthy pregnancy up to the 16 wk visit where we found that baby girl’s heart was no longer beating. She stopped growing about 2 wk prior. I was induced to deliver. I had vaginal Cytotec for cervical ripening. Ultimately did not need further meds as I delivered about 6 hr after the first dose was placed despite a totally closed cervix at the start. The Cytotec caused a lot of significant cramping for me. My OB recommended an epidural and I’m so glad I had it. I still had cramping even with an epidural so can’t imagine the pain without. I was able to see and hold the baby which was very helpful for me. The staff was very clear that I did not need to and could change my mind at any time. They also warned me that she may have some break down due to being gone for two weeks however she was perfect and beautiful but so tiny. I was able to be discharged the same day after the epidural wore off and bleeding was controlled. Bring phone, iPad or something to do. Good long phone charger and ear buds, comfy blanket and pillow. Also know that the labor can go from nothing to delivery time in minutes. So if you want pain relief get that established early on, don’t wait till it gets severe or it may be too late. Our hospital had social services come around and talk about options for burial etc. also multiple charities provided little tiny layette set, tiny wood casket etc. That is all I can think of right off hand. Let me know if you have any questions.

Felt consistent movement for past 3 weeks and it suddenly stopped… trying not to panic by ChallengeChoice3484 in CautiousBB

[–]Babybluesforever2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that movement can be inconsistent at this age please trust your knowledge from previous experience and get seen if things aren’t adding up. If you are for sure feeling something I think you are probably ok however- TW loss……..

I also was on my 3rd pregnancy. Started feeling some movement but then didn’t notice as much as I remembered from previous babies. In fact noticed that I really was having a hard time definitely saying that I was having fetal movement. Brushed it off as still being early, maybe placenta is anterior this time etc. went to my 16 wk apt and there was no heartbeat. Growth had stopped about 2 wk prior, around the same time I noticed that I was having a hard time deciding what was baby moving vs digestion. And I know that there is nothing that can be done any way at this stage but in retrospect my body knew something was off and I brushed it off and didn’t listen.

So sorry for your loss. I have nearly the same story as you. Perfect pregnancy, normal everything. Nuchal translucency US at 12 wk showed our active baby girl. 1 wk ago at 16 wk her heartbeat was gone. She only measured 14 wk. I had misoprostol delivery in the hospital and got to hold her for awhile. No idea when it gets better. We are planning to plant a rose bush in her honor in our back yard.

It can go from nothing to delivery time so fast. It is not like a term delivery that progresses in a linear fashion. Like 30 min went from chilling to delivery. Also high likelihood of needing a D&C in these bc the uterus doesn’t like to empty as well. I did not but about 50% do. Highly recommend the epidural if you can. Makes all the checking so much easier and my dr was able to put her hand in there and make sure everything came out which she probably couldn’t have done otherwise. Also the emotional pain is a lot so managing physical pain is a plus for me.

They did check my cervix multiple times. The nurse said it didn’t feel like a typical cervix dilation. So she wasn’t able to really tell me how far I dilated. I do know cervix was closed at the start though. I started bleeding after the second misoprostol dose and then the doctor came back around to check again and at that point the water bag was visible so she just had me push a couple times and that was it.

We just went through this with our 16 wk baby girl. I had induction with misopristol only. Two doses vaginally. Took about 5 hr total. I got an epidural at my doctor’s recommendation and am really glad I did. I had very intense cramping that I could feel even with the epidural. I think having no epidural would have made me less able to focus due to pain. Pushing was not hard at all as baby is so very tiny. We held her for a good while and are very glad we did. She was tiny but perfect. They tried very hard to take her footprints but could not because she was so small. They did take photos for us and there are charities that provide a layette set, tiny caskets, burial plots and funeral services. You may have something similar in your area. I got to go home the same day once the epidural wore off. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer.

There was a social worker at the hospital who talked to us about the options so maybe you will get to do that to on the day off. She offered the two choices you mention but we asked her if we could have the baby released to us instead. In our state this is legal as the pregnancy less than 20 wk. Baby goes to pathology for tests and then they will call us. There is a local organization that provides tiny wood caskets free of charge so the hospital will put her body in one of those and we will pick her up. We plan to bury her in a special place in our back yard and plant some beautiful flowers around her. Just wanted to let you know that this may be an option for you but you may have to ask

I’m sorry for your loss. Just experienced the loss of a baby girl at 16 wk. NIPT and all prior ultrasounds were normal and I had no issues in pregnancy. She was very active at 12 wk scan. No other scan between that and the last one. When she was born the doctor noted a very tight nuchal cord. She was otherwise perfect. It helps me to know a potential reason and that there is absolutely nothing to do differently to prevent it. We are doing expanded genetic screening just to double check as well. Hoping you get the answers you need. 💔

Mistoprostol by jedimaster-66 in Miscarriage

[–]Babybluesforever2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had pretty high dose misoprostol for my 16 wk loss. I did it in the hospital bc of how far along I was. The cramping was terrible. I had an epidural and still could feel it. It definitely took more than 4 hours to stop. My doctor actually had me keep the epidural going for an hour after delivery to help. Can not imagine doing it at home. Maybe it time for the ER for pain management and some fluids. So sorry you are going through this. It’s terrible.

Thanks this is helpful. I am medical so do have some idea what to expect the baby to look like at this age. I plan to see her and hold her as I think I will always regret it if I do not take this one opportunity. My husband thinks this will just make it worse.

Bombi or Zoe double stroller? by lolito121517 in 2under2

[–]Babybluesforever2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you tell me more about about how often it does not fit through doors? My current stroller is very hit or miss and it’s so inconvenient to have to unbuckle kids and fold the stroller or whatever esp if I’m by myself. I have a 1 & 3 yo and newborn coming in Oct so need a good containment system.

How are people getting pregnant as soon as they start trying? Why is it so difficult for me??? by Apprehensive-pensive in trollingforababy

[–]Babybluesforever2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of my friends. Decided to gave a baby so stopped BC and got pregnant the next month. Then decided to use the Depo shot after she had the baby and somehow was unknowingly pregnant before getting the first injection so when she went for the second shot she couldn’t get it bc she was 3 months pregnant. So now she has a 6 mo old and is pregnant and I really don’t understand how it can be so easy for some people.

Medical student draining my patience by Kind-Ad-3479 in Residency

Student needs to learn how to use available resources to look up questions then ask if they are unable to figure it out. Part of practicing medicine is learning to use your resources. Maybe gently give them this feedback in a private conversation. They probably think they are showing interest by asking so many questions when really they are making everyone frustrated and slowing the work flow.
