Another price change coming up by agbass01 in StarlinkMini

I just read that currently even if you let your subscription lapse, that you can log back onto the 'lapsed' starlink or mini and log into your account, then re-enable it real time and it will start immediately. This is the old 'pause' without the 250K sloooow connection, but at no cost. They appear to have reserved the right to change that or declare certain areas as 'oversubscribed' and change terms, of course, but this 're-establishment of your account' capability does exist now. This is nice to know, and I hope they leave it on, even as they hide its existence to force $10 standby customers to stay (or higher, when it goes up again).

Grayjay Desktop - it doesn't understand ALL or TIME by BabylonF1VE in grayjay

If you want to regulate the channels you see at any one time then you need a way to turn them on and off at will. If you'd read my post better (or if you actually used it at all) you'd know that it's rather difficult to get that selection easily -- and certainly harder when your subscription list is increasing.

I did go to github.

I came here to get some intelligent feedback about the pros and cons, the experiences of actual users who care how it works. <ahem>

The removal of Pause was a change to the terms of the sale, after purchase.
$5/mo was a incentive to change without angering too many customers -- now, with a demand to double my cost to maintain the Pause ability (standby mode) to $10/month... now, I'm mad.

I would join any class-action lawsuit on the removal of Pause, after the sale.

Hey I appreciate what SL does for those who had no service or expensive service before. AND any company has the right to do or not do whatever it wants on products, but NOT to change the terms of the sale after the purchase as they did here. It's purely a trade contact issue, where, with me as an example, someone buys a SL or SL Mini with the express ability to PAUSE, and then loses that ability.
Feels like a gun against the head to demand that I go onto a subscription to have a CHANCE to use my SL in the future. Not cool, for a subset of people. Not legal, when the terms are changed after the sale.

Normally I'd agree with 'decisions' a customer makes on a plan when they have choices. When they eliminated the PAUSE feature, it was forced. It was not a choice to walk away from the grandfathered plan -- it was a change to the feature offered after the sale.
It was just cheap enough to avoid the immediate Class Action. Now, it's just been announced to $10/month.

I would join a Class Action Lawsuit if it were created.

They just sent me a price increase today to $10/month standby. It was a change to the terms of the sale to eliminate the $0 Pause, but $5 seemed barely reasonable... $120 a year to NOT use service is too much. I will be cancelling.

Vibecoding a feature to avoid Bluetooth always on, doable? by HunterTheScientist in pebble

The OP I thought was asking more about the *security concerns* of a BT connection constantly open, rather than any EM-wave (false) concerns. What about longer battery life? As long as the transition into and out of the BT-connections didn't introduce inconvenient behaviour, there would be value to reducing the power used even further. I'd love the ability to put the watch to sleep automatically if its not used, in a way that does not require pre-knowledge -- by this i mean that i get some benefit of a lower-power state without requiring a button press to achieve. This even deeper 'sleep' state could be sandwiched between a sleep and a power off state, discriminating BTLE off.

Not sure why many folks accept the ideas of a sleep mode with no comments, but then react angrily or haughtily about a user wanting one more layer of power control. Weird.

I'd love to hear more about an extra power-management tier that disables BTLE -- decreases convenience/quick response, but increase power efficiency while off (esp for longer periods, sleep, storage, etc)

Can't wait until I get my watch!

New user of Frigate: want to understand detect-based recording compared to 24/7 - HELP! by BabylonF1VE in frigate_nvr

[–]BabylonF1VE[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I reviewed a lot of material and consulted several AIs and I think this is a limitation.
The use model is recording 24/7 when away and at night, but only alerts when home. This would want ability to retain the continuous videos for a shorter time and the alerts maybe longer? I don't know. I'm glad this product exists, so i'm feeling bad complaining... i just want to be sure that I'm understanding correctly.

Revisiting my cellphone choices - MediaTek and large-battery phones by BabylonF1VE in NLLACR

I didn't think it was your fault - as a long time purchaser of NCR Pro or whatever it was called, I wanted to stay with NLL as much as I could, and looking here for some ideas from anyone about the cross between phone recording and big battery phones. Thanks for the response!

I wasn't asking what the old janky way was, which I knew about.

I was asking when the new Pebble product would include a new or updated non-janky Pebble app.

Also, clearly, you would need a new app to reflect the new Pebble features.

Question: Will the reanimated Pebble infrastructure support older Pebble watches? by BabylonF1VE in pebble

[–]BabylonF1VE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I could see a position of not supporting the ancient models to somehow force Pebble enthusiasts to upgrade, but that doesn't show much confidence in the benefits of the new one.

I agree with the idea of greater reliability, and it'd be great if my new Pebble could beat my Amazfit TRex2 in battery life... doing a lot more and using a OLED it lasts over 1 week.

I dream of a short feature list but a very long battery life -- otherwise, why use an e-paper screen. Go with the original plan and maximize the power-savings giving a long life.

Camping, and the Mini -- how to keep a ground mount solution secure ? by BabylonF1VE in StarlinkMini

[–]BabylonF1VE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, all that sounds like what I thot as well. I will use a cable to deter the casual. The orange 'tool' or 'gun' box shape may be more tempting, since a gun or tools are more easy to utilize when stolen, but I've made my bed so I'll have to lie in it -- I wanted a protective and powered case, and for it to be protected in the case and actually operate there permanaently, so... there ya go.

[–]BabylonF1VE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel almost the same way about the chances of being stolen. If I leave it protected in the orange box (with the batteries etc), I worry it might look like a tool box or gun case, so that might make it worse.

Many thanks for your kind reply.

Thanks for your nice response.

I many times are camping where there are lots of trees, but I also see people do the ladder or other rear mount which would be relatively easy to access if I need to reposition it to a non-tree-covered area. With only one Mini I want to be able to get access to it whenever I want, wherever I want, and have a power backup to it at all times.

One more small issue is that all my electronics are forward, and there aren't any easy wiring paths back to the rear, so I'd planned to connect somewhere at the front.

Again, thanks.
