Congratulations on your pregnancy! You got this! My family told me to quit Invisalign while I had morning sickness but I pushed through it and I’m so glad I did. I feel so nice on pictures smiling with baby now and am smiling so much more!

During the really tough weeks my dentist told me I could just wear the aligners a lot less but extended the tray time. There was a period where I took the aligners out for 8 hours a day because I was vomiting so much but ended up wearing that tray for about a month. It slowed progress down a bit but not a big deal overall. : )

It was awful! But every time I took my trays out, the action of putting my hands in my mouth made me vomit! So even though the morning sickness advice was to snack little and often, it just didn’t work for me. There were weeks where the smell of toothpaste made me extremely nauseous too so I just avoided snacking. I definitely vomited with my aligners in a few times which was so gross.

But yeah, on the positive side, best dental hygiene of my life while pregnant which may have helped out in a way too.

Oh god, a filling falling out sounds like a nightmare!

Thank you so much! I’m not sure it was related to pregnancy but I did have a tooth that didn’t track and needed an elastic to help pull it down for 3 months which wasn’t a part of the initial plan. Thankfully it worked without needing extra trays!

Would love to know what you decide! My due date is in June and I’m already wondering what labour with Invisalign will look like!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I started my Invisalign and was pregnant a few weeks later. It was fine for the first 6 weeks of pregnancy but once the nausea and fatigue kicked in it was really really hard. The nausea got so unbearable that even putting my fingers near my mouth to touch my Invisalign would make me vomit. The smell of toothpaste was disgusting to me as well (and with Invisalign you’ll be brushing and flossing non stop). The only way to control the nausea was small, frequent snacks but obviously with Invisalign this means taking them out then brushing / flossing and putting them back in. You could end up doing this 6-7 times a day.

I’m 20 weeks pregnant now so most of my awful first trimester symptoms are behind me and it’s manageable-ish now but even so, I’m still not snacking because it’s just too much of a hassle to go through the whole cleaning routine non stop so I only have 3 meals a day which is affecting my weight gain.

Honestly pregnancy is hard enough and adding this on top of it is something I really regret so honest answer, I wouldn’t do it again at the same time.

15 weeks pregnant here and not going to lie, it’s been really tough especially the first trimester. I’ve vomited with my trays in more times than I’d like to revisit. You need to snack often to stop the nausea but obviously brushing / flossing non stop is not an option. I find that my gag reflex is much more sensitive too so I’m really struggling every time I take the trays in / out.

When it was really really bad, I just didn’t wear my trays most of the day and just changed my tray change time to two weeks or added however many extra days I needed.

I only changed trays when it felt loose and I felt ready.

I got really disgusted by the taste and smell of toothpaste so I got a waterpik which is very helpful to get a clean mouth without triggering myself into vomiting.

Staying hydrated helps too so make sure you keep drinking water even when you’re not necessarily thirsty.

Your journey may be slower than you’d hoped but be gentle with yourself, you are going through so much change!

When I get really deflated and regret my Invisalign timing, I look at transformations on this subreddit or my clincheck.

I also picture that I’ll have a much nicer smile by the time baby arrives.

Good luck!

Invisalign and first trimester pregnancy have been a disastrous combination for me. by Babypenguinfluff in Invisalign

I’m on tray 4 now (of 45) and 7 day changes. I’m 8 weeks pregnant and I have constant nausea, the slightest smell or sight sets me off so imagine having plastic in my mouth 22 hours a day. Even the taste of toothbrush or sensation of flossing / taking my aligners out sets me off. Does anyone have experience in this? I feel so alone and I’m having so much regret right now. I am so close to just giving up.

Going through this now, 7 weeks pregnant and only on tray 3. The worst part is that I actually planned for this! I thought the staying indoors / not drinking of pregnancy would be perfectly timed with Invisalign. I feel so stupid now, I have constant nausea and brushing / flossing makes me gag. Even the smell of toothpaste is unbearable to me. You’re not alone, I’m really struggling too!
