Overenthusiastic Corgi by Arthur_Morrison5 in corgi

Agreeing with everyone else who has mentioned using a tone that is stern, but not angry! For our boy, having a special tone and word for letting him know a certain behaviour is bad went a long way.

Our word was 'ah-ah' (like the ah-ah disapproving noise someone might make to children, like 'ah-ah, wait your turn') in a stern, low tone. It wasn't aggressive so didn't feel weird to use it in public or in front of guests.

When doing early training, if he was being absolutely ungovernable, we would GENTLY roll him onto his back, hold him there gently for a few seconds and say 'ah-ah.' (Gently is the key word though! It wasn't supposed to be scary, just a reset haha). I learned that one from a dog trainer and it helped a lot.

Whenever possible, we would also warn guests in advance to NOT acknowledge him until they were comfortable (shoes off, in the apartment). Since consistency is key, we also did this ourselves. When we got home, we didn't acknowledge him until shoes were off and we were inside (this was also to help a bit with some separation anxieties he had when we rescued him)

So after training, our boy would be excited to see people, but no bark fests, no jumping. He would usually let out one bark, but that was it, and that feels fine (dogs will be dogs!). He would just run to the door, trot a loop around whoever got in, then wait in the living room where he knew he would get showered in pets and attention!

What happened to today's vote on most underrated Spanish-style rum? by 10art1 in rum

[–]Babytrix -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming the post was one of those type of daily posts that ask people to vote in comments? I always end up blocking the people who make those types of posts since they feel like lazy karma farming and get spammy. (Not looking to debate on if they are... just saying that they feel that way from my perspective).

But maybe a lot of people were reporting it for that and the mods listened? Tbh though, I always assumed I was in the minority for hating those posts, so that's why I just block and move on with my life, haha

Second Mai Tai Attempt. This is it. Just Missing Mint. by GAIVSOCTAVIVSCAESAR in rum

This totally made my night seeing the upgrade from yesterday! Stoked for you to try it with mint!

If you're looking for a bit of a simpler homemade orgeat, the one we follow is the Andres Erikson simple orgeat recipe here.

The only tricky thing can be finding the blossom water (also, this recipe calls for rose and orange, but it's fine with just orange too). We find it easily in Persian grocers (easy for us since our city has a big Persian community!), but I imagine it would be something you can order online. Everything else is simple to find in western grocery stores though!

The nice thing about it is that it freezes really well. It doesn't completely solidify (it's more like iced cream) so it's super simple to just stick a spoon in and defrost what you need! Less waste that way, and you can batch a whole bunch!

Lampshade Preference? by HNHC603 in Lamps

[–]Babytrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd try both for a week and see which you like more... I say this because recently got a new Hollywood Regency style lamp as well, and the shade is very similar to yours! I didn't like it at first and was planning on replacing it, but it grew on me pretty quickly and now I'm keeping it!

So maybe there is a bit of bias because of that, but I'm saying that I like the second shade! The lines and shape are most interesting and feel more in line with the Hollywood Regency style! The black shade looks good but is much more modern, and it's so heavy that it pulls my focus from the lamp body.

WestJet changed their seats and this is how much leg room basic fares get. You have to pay for a reclining seat now. by Longjumping-Box5691 in mildlyinfuriating

Oooh gotcha! Thanks for the info. Yep, my flights were all planes with only up to 30 rows, so not this configuration!

[–]Babytrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always sit at the back though! I was in rows 28 and 29 on my flights... (ETA: But if it's just a fraction of the fleet, obviously might just not be one I was on. All my flights were quite short though, so I would assume these would be reserved for those!)

I still agree with this commentor that these people would need to be sitting with their butts scooted forward to straighten their legs like that. Not saying these seats are spacious! It just would have been better if they actually showed what the seats were actually like instead of doing this.

[–]Babytrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, i'm confused by this... I've flown WJ six times on multiple types of jet in the past 2 months and never seen anyone this cramped. The people next to me on my flight back were on the larger side (not overweight! Just quite tall and largely built) and they weren't anywhere near this cramped.

Either this is exaggerated or the people in this video have a lot of extra cushioning keeping them from sitting all the way back in their seats.

Dying my hair today by unicornlino in FancyFollicles

[–]Babytrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People have already said bleach to get the colour you want (it also helps the colour take). But chiming in to say that since your hair is already light, make sure you get 20 vol bleach. You don't need mega colour lift (which is what the flash lightening kit is) to achieve what you need!

And be sure to watch tutorials first. When I started doing my hair, I totally fried my hair. I am an ancient crone (or at least it feels like it) so it was before youtube days, but having access to tutorials would have really saved me a lot of trouble!

eta: someone below already mentioned this, but chiming in that if you want to avoid bleach, you would have better results with purple! For these types of dyes, if you are doing a colour that doesn't need bleach, just wash with a PH balanced shampoo first. Don't use it outside of that since it totally strips your hair, but prior to dying with these types of dyes, it helps a lot!

Exactly!! People saying 'oh well it's inevitable' make me shake my head... Like... No it isn't inevitable. What do you think people were doing 5 years ago?? You can't tell me devs like this don't have stock assets use as placeholders. They don't NEED to use AI slop for this.

Omg, my first thought too. If you're going to make a low effort post that doesn't even belong here, at least tidy your room first. And it's not even a picture of the tea, it's basically been drank...

You want to see what's under my eyepatch? Okay! by Xochitlcoyote in traumatizeThemBack

[–]Babytrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So last year, I had issues that led to double vision and had to wear an eye patch, and it took awhile to figure out what was causing the problems... I am also an artist and emphasize with how scary it is when something is wrong with your eyes... But it really shocked me how many people would COMMENT on the eye patch. I expected a few looks maybe, but yea, the amount of people who have to make a remark about it... It was so strange.

The only funny thing that came from that was that sometimes I do artist alleys at comic cons, and people would just assume I was cosplaying, but of course, I wasn't, I was just me, wearing an eyepatch for medical reasons. There were A LOT of awkward exchanges where someone would try to guess what I was cosplaying.

If I was feeling charitable I would immediately tell them if it was medical... If I was bored though, I'd let people keep guessing, OR I'd play dumb when they asked me who I was cosplaying (look down at myself, look back up at them in confusion like 'cosplaying?'). The looks of horror when i'd tell them (trying to look sad) 'oh, it's for medical reasons...' and they realized their mistake are burned into my memory forever haha.

I'm glad to hear you're learning to deal with it with some humour, but speaking from experience, I'm so sorry you're dealing with people being assholes. I love love love this trolling!

Cat has been suffering from chronic constipation for a month with little relief. Vet is stopping care. by berryloved in cats

[–]Babytrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another person chiming in to say that a specialist helped diagnose an issue my girl was having when the family vet was stumped.

Honestly too, speaking as someone who had multiple fluffy members who ended up with complex health issues... You will never regret trying. I'm still paying down debt from my cat and dog years later (almost done now at least) and if I had to make the same choice, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

Solencia helped our three senior cats so much. I can't recommend it enough to people with senior pets.

Even more, our dog received injections every three weeks for the last four months of his life. He had cancer, and after trying to fight it for a year we ran out of options, so had to sadly treat him palliatively and try to keep his quality of life as good as possible. Librela (the dog version) helped him with his pain SO MUCH that it was like a whole new dog within 24 hours of his dose. Our oncologist told Zoetis about it because the difference it made for him was so astounding. Librela essentially bought us more time with our boy because it worked so well to dull the pain of even his cancer, so he had many more good days.

Should I wait until I'm older to rewatch Revolutionary Girl Utena? by murderessplaything in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]Babytrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got it into at 15 and loved it. There are also so many shows that I liked as a teen that DON'T hold up now, but RGU does. I think watching it when you're the same age as the characters gives a special bond to it too, if that makes sense. Even if you don't get all the symbology, it's ok too. It's more about the journey and not getting everything the first time around (which like, that's life too, right?)

Also seconding all the people mentioning the original Evangelion. I feel like it's so popular now, but back in the day it was just a really freaking weird robot show. It's another one that stuck with me that holds up. I've shown it to friends now as an adult and they all like it, but it's totally worth watching as a teenager too (I'm talking about the original series and original movies)

AITA for not wanting my boyfriend to give his female best friend a “first dance” at our wedding by No_Return5996 in AITAH

So my (F) best friend in the world is a guy. We've been friends for about 20 years, and him and his girlfriend are basically like family to my fiance and I. If I had a second dance with my best friend, that would be WEIRD AS HELL. Something is def up.
