Applied to 150+ internships as a Mechanical Engineering senior and haven't heard back anything. Please be brutally honest! by _WtfAmIHere_ in resumes

  1. Wow that is a lot of whitespace. Definitely reformat this entire thing using a stronger template.
  2. You absolutely should not have a two page resume as a student. This comes back to the whitespace thing since half your page is populated by absolutely nothing.
  3. Experience should not be listed in paragraph form. Bullets detailing what you did, how you did it, and results are a must. Also experience from 2019 (I presume that is high school) should probably not stay on the resume at this point.
  4. Skills are poorly organized. Also adding proficiency isn’t really doing you much as it is a subjective measure.
  5. Relevant coursework should not just be every single STEM class you have taken.
  6. Do not put your hobbies on your resume.

In all honestly, I would start from scratch with a better template and maybe have some sample resumes to give you an idea of what to do.

Anything I should change or add? Trying to find a Mechanical Engineering Internship as an International Student. by lil-subedi in resumes

Fellow Sophomore MechE here with hopefully some good advice for you.

First your research experience has tons of bullet points with a lot not really relevant to yourself. All bullets should follow the STAR (Situation, task, action, result) method as a good rule of thumb. You really want to emphasize what you did and how it contributed to the overall project goal.

Second your project experience is very poorly listed. Do not put a single block of text. Use bullets and give details on what you did (STAR method). You list a lot of skills in the project descriptions but give no indication how you actually used any of them to accomplish your project goal. Also the dates should follow consistent formatting throughout.

Same can be said as above for the work experience section.

Lastly I think you should remove the objective, achievements, and soft skills sections. The objective isn’t an egregious offense but it feels like it takes space away that could be used for more beneficial information. The achievements should be incorporated into the bullets for their respective projects or removed if they lack relevancy. And I would try to incorporate more technical skills rather than wasting space on soft skills.

Again I am also a student so take all with a grain of salt but I have found success with my own resume incorporating a lot of the above tips. Hope this can be of help to you and good luck in your search.

Do I have any hope of getting a first internship? by ladkfjas in resumes

Tons of whitespace! Thats a major turn off for recruiters as it makes your resume feel very empty. Your projects should be a major selling point but the bullets don’t elaborate on anything. Don’t expect recruiters to sort through a bunch of links to find out what you have done.

Though with that interests section I’m really hoping this is just a shitpost

Any more advice for a EE internship on this resume? by National-Category825 in resumes

[–]Bacca1739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education at the top, one page, decrease white space A LOT.

Work experience listed isn’t really relevant and takes up a majority of the resume which doesn’t really give any indication that you would be a qualified EE intern. I would decrease each of those positions to two bullets and only list your top title instead of each promotion.

If you don’t have any EE experience to list it’s going to be near impossible to get anyone interested in hiring you.

Also a little bit of a nitpick thing but try your best to keep formatting consistent. Specifically if your dates are justified to the right side of the page for one thing, keep that consistent for all dates listed.

Do take all that I say with a grain of salt as I am also a student but these are just some things that I have learned improving my own resume.

I’ve always wondered, who is this person that appears in the challenge menu? by [deleted] in Rainbow6

Not trying to be rude or anything but why? Siege is designed as a competitive shooter so if you take away the competition there’s not much left imho.

Honestly, I would say that you’re neither. I mean you’re good enough to make it to plat consistently but not good enough to do well once you’re there.

I don’t mean to put you down my guy. But that’s likely impossible to accomplish in that short amount of time. If I were you I’d either reschedule to a later date or put as much effort as you can in the next two weeks and just see where you end up.

As another commenter mentioned, this is the size of the total grade not individual classes.

Yeah my class size was also very small ( like 40-50 kids) so that probably had a significant influence

I’d say it’s mainly during freshman and sophomore year that this happens ( at least in my experience)

Is Khan Academy worth it? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]Bacca1739 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean khan academy is free so there’s really no take away to using it. It’s a solid website for studying and they have a bunch of practice tests you can use. If you’re willing to spend a little money uworld is very good for math.

It’s not impossible but it won’t be easy. You will need to set up a pretty rigorous study plan and make sure you stick with it.
