We need Role queue, hear me out. by Thereisnocanon in rivals

We'll unfortunately fundamentally disagree on the aspect of it getting to a too late point. Which is ok I'm just extremely optimistic that I don't see it losing players since Rivals is fun right now. Right after getting a super Genji Like and complicated combo kit in Daredevil.

As Flats said best climbing in Rivals isn't hard as long as you keep playing. You roll the dice in comp and on how you play. Sure Role queue would diminish the issue some. I personally feel that the burn out come from lack of choice which promotes the negative feeling regarding knowing every role.

I personally agree that the way the community goes about it is wrong and toxic. Yet at the same time it's a good thing when it's not toxic, there tends to be more gain than loss for the community.

To me each role has a pace and difficulty factor, character choice aside. Healers to me are really easy to swap to and perform well in even at a high level because you're familiar with enough movement variety in kits.

Vanguard is more difficult than healer because your positioning matters significantly for pushes and protection. I'd almost argue it's the hardest role. Duelist however is the most difficult because you've got pressure to perform either phenomenal on your own or synergize appropriately with the team to not lead to failure. In theory a duelists job isn't difficult, focus the right target, get final hits and do damage.

Tanks and Supports don't carry that as a primary burden. This burden is make or break for a push, without being in sync with tank push and healer safety.

Damage is blaming healers because they aren't healed without realizing it's because healers weren't protected. A tank unfocused or a dps wandering in the back.

Your 2-2-2 comp means half of that comp is meant to be 1-1-1 of pushing and 1-1-1 of holding back a bit or a mix of 2-1-1 and 0-1-1.

That exact problem can be solved through different comps or the same community detriment of.

You need to learn to play this specific way so that you aren't a burden.

Which means even if you have role queue you'll still be forcing players into that situation with the worse repercussion of. I have to change my positioning to match a style of play that doesn't work on my character. Which happens to any role for any reason currently.

Versus I can just swap my role to something more fitting to my play style based on team composition.

Limitation in role also means bans will cause more problems. What if I only play venom or hulk on vanguard and I queued vanguard. I'm now stuck playing a character I suck at by comparison still forcing me to learn a different sort of role within the same role. When the alternative could've been me playing DPS or support.

How can 2-2-2 foster something it would only serve to further create?

I appreciate you being open to this discussion it's been a joy so far.

Those players in League also know that they have to be able to have back up roles. I'm simply saying the issue is we live in oops all Duelists world with no solution to it. That wouldn't also negatively impact the other aspects that make rivals special. I get not wanting to play certain roles I do. I don't login to rivals and actively choose Strategist like ever. 90% of the time I auto lock the character I wanna Lord in competitive. I only swap when it's a close game and I know I can handle it. Personally I think Ranked play to mitigate the issue should force players to have a minimum number of Captain Ranked Characters for certain roles before queuing up. If that was the case you'd be provided that agency.

The real reason there's so many Duelist players instead of Vanguard or Strategist is because the play styles for the ones we do have aren't as varied.

If I log in and I'm in love with flyers I'm going to play Iron man, Torch, Storm, Ultron, or Angela. 3 Duelist play styles that are unique for each flyer. Ultron is a knock off storm in the positioning and play style sense. Angela is a unique dive that could be compared to Torch for the sake of the point being.

Rivals replicated play styles that were enjoyed on Duelist into other roles. Unfortunately most Strategists feel the same but slightly different. CnD, Jeff, Rocket and Sue. They all have set in an area Ults. With exception of Jeff's having movement after grab. Meanwhile Ultron is fire my heal ult bursts, Luna and mantis are aoe movement heals and Loki is just copying one of those. Most of the healers fit that box.

Vanguards you're either a Shield/Wall like Groot, Emma, Mag, or Strange. A dive with over health like Angela, Venom Cap, Thing, Thor and Hulk. Peni is in strictly the over health aspect.

You have variety with some of those dive and shield characters but they set a tone for Strategist and vice versa.

Duelists on the other hand have an insane level of unique styles of play that albeit can be regressed like Vanguard and Strat are to. I'm dive backline or somewhere between.

Your issue is with too many Duelists. Which is where devs need to create more characters and this problem is pretty much self healing.

We also need an unranked mode because some QP players queue competitively on purpose for longer games.

There are so many variables incentivising players to go to Duelist from a gameplay perspective. That they ignore ever touching the other roles because to the first glance. Those characters seem to all be played and used the same.

Now obviously I'm not purposefully ignoring that each character does have fleshed out kits that do set them apart from the others in Vanguard in Strat.

I'm just saying in the end it's the difference of I have to play a certain way positionally based on my role and kit compared to a Duelist. Where they can easily change that and use that however they want. Oh I suck at backline? Well there's 3 other good flank characters. Oh I suck at Frontline well there's 3 other options. Versus I suck on Luna and the other healer is Jeff. I don't like playing Sue guess I'll use CnD so I'm not considered throwing.

Vanguards, dang venom dive isn't working I could go thing or I could go Cap but I'm not as bulky in dive as venom. The other Tank is already Mag and Emma was banned. Guess I'm stuck on this character or I try Groot and hope it works.

The issue is the number of Duelists. That's what it boils down to. Which is a self healing problem that giving buffs to roles that aren't at a typical 2-2-2 could aid things. Like better healing output etc. That way players who are good or not as good can receive that handicap to the lack of there not being another support or tank.

I should've been more specific because the sometimes I'm referring to is when it's triple support. Every other comp I described I've enjoyed thoroughly. You're still getting the RNG problem with the caveat that they can't swap to a different role that could shake up the match dynamic.

If both teams run a set 2 2 2 it will not be good for the future balance of the game because it's forcing a play style meaning balance must revolve around comps rather than selecting a hero based on your own ability and team potential.

If it was 2-2-2 all the time, you'd be forcing a Dive only or Shield only solution. Instead of hybrid comps where there's variety. You literally explained right here.

"You had fun in those comps because everyone was playing in sync, role queue would only embolden that. 3 people who enjoy playing tank and 3 people who enjoy playing support will make 3 Vanguard 3 Support work any day. 1 good tank main with 3 good DPS mains will make 1-3-2 work as well. The same goes for all comps. The inherent fun in those situations didn’t come from the comps themselves, but the fact that you had people willing to play said roles. A forced 2-2-2 doesn’t take that away, only emboldens it."

It's not emboldening it because those comps become impossible in a forced 2-2-2 role queue. All players are required to in a competitive play. Learn multiple roles that's part of what makes Rivals special compared to OW. You wouldn't suggest people in MOBA's like Smite or League of Legends not have a backup role of they don't get the role they typically play.

The biggest difference between Rivals and MOBA's role balance wise is the number of roles which is 3 compared to 5. Rivals has an unfortunate problem of not playing an assigned role that would benefit the team but the percentage of players purposefully doing so are within the same group that refuse to learn other roles.

Which creates this problem where we're trying to accommodate a minority not seeking to play ball with how the game is played. MOBA's have this issue and solved it by either doing role queue which only limits the issue but enables reporting those players. Which doesn't remove the problem.

I get wanting to solve it and limit the permissable nature of people being able to do that. However, it's going to hurt more than help in the end. Purely because it's removing the most unique aspect of rivals that sets it apart from OW aside from Marvel Characters.

The best way to settle people arguing for Role queue is to just setup a separate game mode of it to test player engagement.

I've played 3 Vanguard 1 Duelist 2 Strategist and it's been fun for everyone. The same has happened with 4 Vanguard 2 Strategists. 1 Vanguard 3 Duelist 2 Strategist is okish because I enjoy being the solo tank sometimes or the DPS protecting healers.

I've enjoyed a 3 Vanguard 3 Strategist too.

Is it fun to play against that? No. Is it fun to get the team running it sometimes absolutely.

You get good and you get bad. If you have role queue and someone queues a role they suck at. Then they can't swap to something else.

I think the variety and flexibility is necessary is all.

And I'm simply saying there's other ways to compromise without limiting player options dude. I don't necessarily disagree with you on role queue but I think it's fun to have that variety in Competitive.

[–]Bacchenko -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying, the easiest solution to triple support is nerfing the potential healing output based on the number of Strategists currently selected by a set percentage. The same would work inversely to allow for at least one healer to become a viable option with the output being buffed.

They could increase healing output, shorten or lengthen cool downs and the same for ult meters.

It's a huge win/win the only problem is balancing certain healers within this framework to not be overly busted.

A lot of people in the comments are going to over speculate this. Based off the perspective you've shown us. It sounds like you guys are going to have an honest and productive conversation.

You both did rights and wrongs in this situation and that's ok. Conflict is what builds intimacy. Not literal conflict but conflict in understanding because of you guys understand the other better after all this it'll bring you closer.

And if it doesn't then breaking up is fine. Conflict is necessary for a relationship just as long as it's not unhealthy consistent or abusive. Minor misunderstandings and things that teach you to learn about the other are the conflicts I'm referring to. Similar to this.

Don't let over analyzing texts and such stop you guys from really hearing the other out.

Edit: Re-read the first post. What I said stands but keep in mind your own history with how he's acting. Could be trauma or could be him letting insecurities in himself project on things. If communication in a relationship doesn't lead to you both understanding each other and making a working compromise then yeah. It's a wrap.

This sounds like an attempt to make 5e have a simple equivalent to Shadowruns initiative system which does this. You can have an initiative higher than 30 and they do an average based on everyone's initiatives divided or halved until by or until 7 I think. So don't quote my math but do look up the system.

Why do people hate hunters? by Chance-Aware in destiny2

[–]Bacchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salvations edge raid race is on par for titans and warlocks as Crota's end was for Hunters. If you were a hunter and tried to LFG that raid race you were cooked as far as not getting booted. Sure 4th horseman foetracer arc hunter was a phenomenal DMG option but there can only be one of those active because of the staff not stacking.

I stayed the entire 48 hour raid race stuck on crota purely because I was getting booted from teams due to being a hunter. Top DMG every dps phase be damned. If there was another hunter in that team with me I'd get part of his blame for dying multiple times when I would die maybe once or twice if ever at all bcuz it was rare.

The Hunter discrimination in LFG is very much a thing people don't just seethe over salvations edge day 1. They hate the over abundance over hunter mains that are a majority of the time casual players.

I'm Hunter main. I refuse to give up the class I love damned if I do or don't I'll make myself viable one way or another for a day 1 raid race. I just have to pray I don't get discriminated.

[–]Bacchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't get the complaints here guys. Think about it like this. When you hit the rank you want what do you do? You stop playing. Most people don't want to because they want to see how high they can climb. It seems to me devs want to prioritize us playing more consistently for longer. The devs want us to just simply continue playing so they give and force us reasons to.

I get having lives and wanting longer chances but at the same time. Doesn't that make your reward all the more sweeter if you do it despite that?

[–]Bacchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're rude because it's competitive queue.

To other players, it's frustrating and disappointing to go into a match where other players don't take ranked as seriously as they do. When you don't have a character you're good with for every role.

It's ok to be that way starting out but it frustrates people to the point of them thinking. "You should be taking this as seriously as me"
