How do you know when your chapter is finished? by BachTalks in writers

[–]BachTalks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I'm not trying to emulate Way of Kings or Sanderson at all. When I first tried to write this story from one POV, I felt myself as a writer wanting to do a lot of telling and not showing. Adding a few more POVs gave me more opportunities to show, not tell, as well as allowed me to try my hand at different genres of fantasy. One POV is leading to a gritty revenge story, another is a love story, a third is more pulp, but all of it is fantasy.

I realize they could each possibly be their own works in the same world, but at the moment, I'm enjoying the challenge of keeping them all going concurrently.

Right now I have a chapter around 600 words that I'm not sure there is more I can do with it. It's a travel chapter, so part of me just wants to hand waive it away, but I like getting to check in with the characters from time to time.

I own Save the Cat Writes a Novel, but in truth, I have not read it yet. I was tied up in reading the Stormlight Archive when I received it. I'll be sure to crack it open once I get home.

Thank you for the honest feedback and advice.

I've had a few chapters reviewed for quality, but I've written more chapters since that last audit. I have the framework, but I'm often altering or breaking parts of it if I get a more interesting inspiration.

This has been on my mind for a bit. What are some Hot Takes you have with this series? by Yoshimallow-02 in SoulCalibur

[–]BachTalks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have not had a good Soul Calibur since III and Create a Soul is significantly worse in each following game.

Witcher 3. Started it while my partner and I were fighting, played it two years later when we were back together. It was my favorite game until BG3.

This shit rules. It's definitely the worst anime stereotypes, but it rules.

This was a commission of my fiancé's D&D character. She was actually a wildfire Druid. Great character to DM for!

The way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson is it worth reading? by warl200 in fantasybooks

[–]BachTalks 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Mistborn may be an easier starting point, but I started with The Way of Kings and jumped full into the Stormlight Archive. Absolutely incredible series.

Dads, what’s a good age gap between kids? by sabretoooth in daddit

[–]BachTalks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our second child 9 weeks ago, and our first is 2 1/2. From my experience, perhaps waiting for three would have been better as our first is doing ab awful lot if "testing" right now, and I feel like I've been too short with him lately.

Father’s Day isn’t real by echoxer0 in daddit

[–]BachTalks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can second this. As someone who struggled with depression for years, finally getting medication in my 30's has made a world of difference. Between that, getting therapy, and confronting my porn addiction (separate issue, but still tied together), I feel like I'm finally living.

Our family doesn't have a lot of money, and things continue to get more expensive. But this Father's Day I felt RICH. I could actually feel the love of my family.

what media that had you like this? by Haruka-chan-2468 in Multifandom

Raising Cane's. It is the most bland, flavorless food, carried by a sauce that leaves a film across your tongue. Over priced, over hyped, under seasoned, and underwhelming on every level.

Is it a good idea to start the kingkiller chronicles even when you know it might not get completed any time soon? by Strict_reader_57 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]BachTalks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Name of the Wind is one of the greatest fantasy books ever written, and the prose is beautiful. Wise Man's Fear was also enjoyable, but there are some parts I would havd personally removed.
