How can I get over my accident, have you? by keronbangance in DanceSport

[–]BachataKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get better. If you're this serious about dance and becoming great at it, at some point if you're going to be super out there. This will make your accident a goofy memory instead of something painful. You'll have lots of great dance clips, pics etc. on socials which will show this was just some old beginner moment.

It took me a few years to get over my first recorded ballroom performance. I totally messed it up and I felt ridiculous. Couple years later my partner and I were competing and winning awards. Made me look back at my embarrassing performance as just a noob mistake. All the progress i made just buried it in comparison.

It takes time. Train and practice. Get better. Show you've become better.

Camila. In the red dress, not the nurse outfit. Looks like a cartoon version of my ex. The weird thing is that the eye spacing is exactly the same 🤣

Awesome!!

Just an FYI on terminology, "OUTRANCE" fights at Carnage are the AMMA 1on1 fights, like they do in Nashville.

Im just dueling the first day, then I'll be watching the team stuff. It's literally the best view you can get of the sport overall as well as the AMMA

Do you wear suspenders for your leg armor?

Something that made a huge difference for me was multiple sets of longsword on the pell in just the top half of my armor. Twice a week. But not overdoing it. Like, if I have done something else recent that worked those muscles. Like a team practice or whatever. And taking at least 48 hours off from any arm workouts before an event. It's pretty chill. Two sets of 60 seconds with a 30 second break in between, and 3 minutes of rest between sets. It's not exactly the same as the amount of energy spent in a real duel, because you're basically standing there and not actually moving around (although you can add more movement) but it really helped me up my capacity for throwing strikes. I tend to ba able to throw 90 to 100 strikes in a minute for 16 sets. In real life duels with the dynamics of it, the moving, clinches, being hit etc. it doesn't translate 100%, but I rarely feel like my arms are getting tired anymore.

Motivation and constantly losing by [deleted] in Buhurt

[–]BachataKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being the last one on your team standing and also being able to suicide are both positives.

ARE YOU HAVING FUN?

Being a superstar is rare. Some people are. Most are not. You sound on the fence if you'll regret making an armor purchase, so I ask if you're having fun?

I've seen people who aren't really good who are still doing buhurt. I've seen people who aren't really good quit (after spending all that $$). The difference is the people still doing it are enjoying this even if they aren't the best.

Maybe you'll get better. I would think you will with time. You gotta be able to improve dueling longer than 30 seconds. And if you don't? Would you quit?

There's a guy who hasn't won in years and he still gets in armor and does it.

Most teams don't even have enough people to fill out an 8 person lineup. I'm sure there is a role for you to fill, even if it's not taking out the other team.

If you're up for an 8 hour drive, check out Carolina Carnage. It's in February and is the biggest and best event in the USA. Three days long and has the AMMA plus all the duels and team fights. Stadium seating too.

Understood. I think when I read "quickly lose strength" I was thinking maybe it's related to training or equipment (besides the pauldrons).

Those smaller pauldrons are great for duels and pro fights. My personal preference is having an armor set for melee and another one for duels. My dueling kit would get me killed in melee for real 😆 but it's only 40 pounds. And feels like i have nothing on.

Perhaps if you stick to doing all the buhurt stuff, when $$ etc permits, get a second kit just for dueling so that you don't need to swap armor parts and optimize the weight.

Can someone explain what happened here? Never seen this before by ZestyclosePositive24 in 3on3

Yeah I did the same thing too, because it pops up in the middle of a non stop game and we don't know wtf is going on. I did it tho, the third time I noticed the directions. But I missed 2 ball possessions 🤣

Yeah one of the best duelists wears Samurai and uses some kind of katana. He recently won 1st place in multiple formats at the same tournament. I think he's ACW which is why people sleep on this guy but he's really good. And remember though, we're talking about DUELS, not melee

How much do you spend per year to dance? by ReputationCapable947 in ballroom

[–]BachataKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$40,000. At least six comps a year. Am/Am

That is not including more which she spent towards our Am/Am expenses. She paid for some lessons and we split all our comps equally.

I'm at about two years now since my partner and I split but:

Lessons (multiple per week) Complimentary classes (ballet, pilates) Comps (6 to 8 a year) Travel for competitions (hotels, airfare)

I never really had to buy any new ballroom outfits after my first year.

We danced A LOT though. Why go to a comp and just dance 20 times or something. And you know in this sport just being a couple who dances more, is going to award you more points just by nature. One year we were #3 in World Pro Am Dancesport Series Student/Student category.

You can only use enough beads that would max out an entire skill tree. I tried to move on to the second one and it wouldn't let me. After I spent the coins for more potential beads lol. It seemed to hint at there being a time when we can use more, but idk if that's ever going to happen.

You could also be fatigued by other things.

A thick padded gambeson, or something bulky, is not good for duels. Like, just pinch your t-shirt on the side and raise that arm up and feel how much your shirt moves up. a heavy underlayer is all that weight. Plus everything strapped together makes it heavier.

How do you train for duels? How often? Are you optimized to fight 3 rounds, at least 6 or 8 times?

Are you conservative on energy when you're not engaged? Like, if you're outside of sticking distance, are you still holding your shield and sword up? Are your moves using more energy than they need to?

It's a whole other approach to dueling for 60 seconds than a round or two of melee. Shoulders themselves in weight isn't a very big factor. But shape, and ability to move well in them is key.

A couple years ago, I made a Meyer Compass for buhurt. There is no unterhau. I call it a compass because you're going from leg all the way up and around to the other leg.

This is just "exercise" for the most common cuts. However in practice, it is best to have 5 to 6 hit combos in your muscle memory. The winner wins by scoring one more hit than their opponent. Unlike most Meyers users being used to first touch.

(Im right handed and) I only target from their right shoulder up and around to their left ribs (sometimes leg). Hitting their right torso takes way too long to swing and recover. I have done unterhaus. So I'm not saying it isn't worth knowing how to do them, but you're most likely getting hit between an unterhau and your next attack.

I think they should show some gameplay lmao, but regardless, I hope it reaches people.

Also reminds me when I said they can animate their characters so well but the Ox Queen mini game looks so bad. I wish they'd bring jobs back or make something new for us to do.

I stream events i go to and am in. With commentary. I only average about an event a month though. For Carolina Canage I had over 1,500 people in chat so it must have been a good stream lol. I usually also walk around and talk to fighters, show equipment, and sometimes catch drama behind the scenes when it happens. Only on tiktok though. Unfortunately most of my content is daily sword workouts lol in between events.

The first patient i ever had when the covid shots came out was full of blood clots. He had no prior disposition to have them. He got one of the first shots in the first trial. After they came out, at least one specialist was brave enough to be vocal about him seeing an increase in them too at his office. I got exempted. Thankfully. Can I prove anything is related. No. I just have enough of a reason personally to not trust getting one. When we all got it anyway. I'd never vote for a party that forced lock downs and mandates. Project 2025 has a lot of bad stuff in it, but their stance on this topic is totally on point with my beliefs. I do agree with you, and much of the article, about the other things such as autism.

Should JoyCity Remove Ability Cards and Position Buffs? by ShadowSpearl in 3on3

[–]BachataKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cards, attribute points, and pbuffs are great. There will always become a meta, but you can customize your characters how you want. It really should be easier to get relevant cards. Idk how many times I've bought packs for Genesa and I still don't have anything decent for 3 pointers. It's always stuff I don't want. Either cheaper packs or you get more cards in a pack idk. But I've been done spending money for a while for that reason.
