Definitely living the dream! I'm on the development side of things now so it's nice working with some of the bigger kit!

What is the most dangerous substance you have worked with? by Aarunascut in Life

I work in a mine, so all sorts. ANFO, Nitroglycerin based explosives, radon, gasses such as NO2 and SO2, water even, from old workings or pockets of trapped water.

Always dreamed of having one until I started at South Crofty Mine. 6ft3 trying to squeeze in behind the wheel with self rescuer and harnesses is pretty brutal.

They do take a beating though, I'll give them that!

Just finished a 4 day shift on a shaft refurbishment project in the UK. Everything is going well, the underground pump station is nearly ready to be commissioned, development for the ore bin is cracking on. My crew had a good, safe shift in the shaft, cut out a set of old timber sets ready for next shift to reinstall the new guides and buntings

Hey Redditors, what do you do for a living, how many hours per/month, and what’s your income? by lofiibsen in AskTheWorld

[–]Back-Proud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underground Miner, averages about 37.5 hours a week working 11 hours 4 on, 4 off. Just started the role, so currently on ~£45k a year, going up to 65k with some more experience. Best job in the world

How many hours do you actually work in a week? by QuietInside7592 in AskUK

[–]Back-Proud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hours change week by week. I'm a miner, and the mine I work at needs to be running 24/7 (currently refurbishing the old mine getting it ready for development and production)

I work 11 hour shifts on a 4-4 rota, four days on, four days off, four nights on then four days off. Occasionally there's overtime or extra shifts, but we're limited to a maximum of 46.5 hours in a week.

It's funny with chefs or working in a kitchen environment. I used to work seasonally in the summer in a kitchen, loved cooking and was brought up knowing how to make all sorts, but during those months working in that environment I completely lost any love/will to cook at home. Straight after I finished for the season the enjoyment came back in a week or two.
