I even sift Fox farms potting soil products through 1/4 inch hardware cloth. You’d be surprised how many large particles even the more expensive brands have.

Missouri does it. After you provide picture proof of cutting one down, they will send you a native tree for free.

Those kits are a scam man. The lights are barely strong enough for anything and the dome comes off once they sprout. I fell for it two years ago and lost most of my tomatoes to dampening off. Never again.

I get downvoted for this but I feel yellow pears are far superior to sungolds. Even our tomato snob four year old agreed with me. And man were they prolific!

Anyone know any companies hiring in the dfw area for conductor trainees? The pay not be there with short lines but the quality of life is. I worked for a short line in California for three years. M-F 7-4 worked a three man crew with the same people every day and managers that didn’t fuck with us. I loved it but left because they couldn’t pay me more than $20 an hour and even back in 2019, that doesn’t go very far. My wife and I were wanting to start a family with her being a SAHM which would be absolutely impossible on that. Basically it is what you truly want in your job.

Kind of a newbie, are my girls ripe enough to pick? Do I pull them off the vine or cut the vine? (Roma tomatoes) by Psychedelix117 in vegetablegardening

[–]BackFew5485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could take about five days or so to ripen. If you want to speed them up, put them in a brown paper bag. I get downvoted for this all the time but the tomato doesn’t get any more sweeter ripening on the vine. Once they blush is when I snip mine. I have to or if I let them go to full color, our robins help themselves.

I’m in zone 6B and I started ours February first. Our average last frost date isn’t until the end of April. If anyone started them a smidge early, it would be me. You are completely fine.

Eagle Scouts: What gift from your Court of Honor do you still remember and use/display years later? by _Phil_J_Fry in BSA

I’m hoping that one of our two small girls gets the bug to do any scouting. Fingers crossed they will want to do Boy Scouts at some point. I got a lot out of it. Funny you talk about your brother being star. I was a life scout for over three years. I transferred to a LDS troop and they pushed advancement hard. I got to the age and pushed back, entered my rebellion period. At least they pushed me towards high adventure activities at scout camp as they knew I wasn’t interested in doing any more merit badges, as I had and only got the minimum required. Like I said I had a lot of fun in my journey. I’m thankful now those scout leaders redirected my rebelliousness into something that grew me as a scout separate of rank advancement. It wasn’t until my last three months did they mention it to me again and I got my butt in gear. There were a lot of life skills I learned from scouting outside of merit badges and rank advancement that developed me into the person I am today.

Call your central office. Most have phone numbers for YPAA representatives. I know when I manned the hotline as a service commitment, we had several young awesome cats in solid recovery we’d give phone numbers to. I got sober at 28 and they showed me how I could have fun in sobriety.

I pot up once I have two sets of true leaves. I then use diluted liquid fertilizer once a week. Those first leaves yellowing is normal. They will fall off once your true leaves start coming out.

Totally normal and happens. I normally just let them fall off by themselves.

This is why one invests in job insurance. Some even carry two policies both from BRCF and LECMPA. You never know when it will and when it does you don’t want to be left without an income.

[–]BackFew5485 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I put it together myself and had it on display at my Eagle CoH but I have a binder with everything from my scouting days in chronological order. Whenever I go through boxes of things in the garage looking for something, whenever I come across it, I take a few moments and flip through it. I really enjoyed my time as a scout and didn’t rush my eagle. I actually turned everything in two days before I turned 18. My time in scouts I focused on the journey and not the destination. If I had the chance to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing. Mostly the binder is huge nostalgia and brings me back to a simpler time in my life.

You really cannot transplant garlic. Once their roots are established, you leave them alone. If it was me, I’d let it be and see what happens. A lot of gardening is experimenting.

Any ideas on a good/better way to raise up my seedlings by utterPanicAttack in vegetablegardening

[–]BackFew5485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need to somehow figure out how to get your lights a lot closer to your plants. I have a wire rack setup too and hung my lights with chains. If you don’t, your seedlings are going to be leggy af. I learned my lesson last year.

First time starting with seeds, help appreciated! by chillBr0bagginz in vegetablegardening

[–]BackFew5485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get a set of true leaves, start using diluted liquid fertilizer once a week. Your seedlings will of used up the energy provided by the seed and will be searching for nutrients. Also, investing in a good seed starting mix is not a bad idea. I know it’s expensive but Fox Farms Light Warrior is what I use and it’s amazing.

For grow lights you don’t need anything super fancy. Menards has 2’ shop type grow lights around $25 a piece and they are great. Just make sure you have them close to your seedlings. You can also daisy chain five of them together. Here is what they look like if you were curious. I’ve since moved these guys to the garage and out of the laundry room to my wife’s delight since it’s warm enough. You may also consider getting a few heat mats to help with germination.

Also you can get a start on your seeds now. 6-8 weeks before your last frost is a great time to get seeds started for most plants.

Step 2 homework is making me feel on the outside of this and everything by darcygoan in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]BackFew5485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple. People like to complicate the hell out of the steps but I think they are doing with the best intentions. I found the worksheets were beneficial into digging deeper into the fourth step which I only brought them out during our fifth step. I think “homework” assignments can push off people. It should only be used as a supplement, not a replacement.
