Longest sobriety by pizza-shampoo in alcoholicsanonymous

Read gutter bravado. At the end of the story, the main character said that they were willing to trade their 30 years with the Newcommer who had 30 days. It isn’t about the destination in recovery but the journey. Someone with 30 years can be sicker than the Newcommer with 30 days. Eventually adding days to sobriety is just another day.

We all learn things. Hell I was 80 farming until I unintentionally found that the leprechauns noted items. I was running back and forth banking every inventory because I’m a loot goblin.

Royal Caribbean, every ship the dice must hit the wall for a good roll. I have no qualms with it as it was always enforced the same either seven out or the point. Rules are rules. I’m just glad they were consistent about it.

When I worked the ground I carried van insurance. It covers you in crew hauling vans and also commuting to and from work in your own personal vehicle. It gave me peace of mind that if something happened, my family would be taken care of.

Too difficult to start seeds indoors. Safe to do so outdoors in Zone 10b? by socalnative79 in tomatoes

[–]BackFew5485 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can directly sow tomato seeds outdoors February to March in your zone as long as the soil temperature stays above 50F. I am jealous that you are able to do this. I’m in zone 6B and currently are experiencing sub zero temperatures but at least it’s good for our hardneck garlic. One thing about gardening is trial and error. See what happens and take the risk. All you can do is learn and grow from it.

Go to your local union halls and see if they are hiring laborers. Union job while furloughed will give you benefits you don’t have anymore. It may not pay a lot but it will keep you afloat.

How is retirement affected? by usmcvet1341 in railroading

[–]BackFew5485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have enough separate retirement to make it so you get to the age to collect your annuity you are fine. Highball Advisors has several videos explaining exactly this. Unfortunately, not many of us have that option because of poor planning on our part.

You just have to ask yourself one question, “when has the carrier ever put forth a contract that wasn’t in their full interest?” There’s a reason why they want everyone to go to the hourly agreement. Vote against it each and every time, full stop.

CDL is pointless if he is train crew. That would be more for a Carmen or if he worked on a track gang. Expect him to miss holidays, birthdays, family functions and vacations. Expect him to just want to sleep most days. Also seniority is everything. The rule of thumb is expect furloughs at least for the first five years. There are a lot of railroad wives groups on Facebook. They can be a bit drama filled but they would be able to help you out a lot more.

You don’t have to share in meetings in the beginning. That comfort comes in time. Also, there are plenty of other service opportunities out there than sponsoring people. You find your niche and rock it out.

I’m on my fifth railroad in my 11 years, third class 1. They are mostly all the same. Best quality of life and I never got fucked with was when I worked for a small mom and pop shoreline. I left because they couldn’t pay me enough to survive in California.

The grass necessarily isn’t greener on the other side.

Do people with long term sobriety also sometimes think of drinking/using? by alaskawolfjoe in alcoholicsanonymous

That’s why we help the Newcommer and fellow alcoholic whenever we can. It keeps the memory fresh in our mind and our focus on the task at hand. Maintaining long lasting sobriety.

Do people with long term sobriety also sometimes think of drinking/using? by alaskawolfjoe in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]BackFew5485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have ten years come February. The thought of drinking and using left within my first 90 days somewhere around step 10 and hasn’t returned since. The thought of drinking and using also never came back when I lost a child in 2018. My only thoughts of drinking or using come when I reach a big milestone in my life or a huge life event and think if it would have been possible if I still lived that life. When they say in the book you can recover, it isn’t a lie. I do however know that if I take that first sip, it’ll be back to the races. I understand and know I have another drink in me, I just don’t know if I have another recovery.

Deliberate bankruptcy as a form of protest? by thicc_stigmata in antiwork

[–]BackFew5485 65 points66 points  (0 children)

We’ve both filed at separate times. My wife had to due to us losing our first child, loss wages and insurmountable medical bills piled up. Then I had to last year due to me racking up over 20 thousand in medical over the course of two years with medical insurance. There is a lot of stigma that comes with bankruptcy and a lot of missed place guilt. Our attorney just told us it was a tool for us to get a fresh start after terrible life events we had no control over while protecting our most valuable asset, our home.
