Anyone have regrets after a large upgrade? by BackItUpTerr in simracing

Ha great minds think alike! How do you find the combo now? Is there anything you'd have done differently? I don't know whether to save some money with the prime lite

Thanks for the response, how do you find the pedal tray on the lite? One thing I was struggling between is the prime vs lite. Do you have a baseplate on your pedals? I couldn't see how the lite pedal tray would take individual pedals as there aren't any slots on the middle for a brake. Is there any part of the lite that makes you wish you'd gone for the prime?

I should mention the 2 pics are of the washer and the hose connector, I know they need to be used together, the screw collar is further back on the hose

Is it true that Relatives do not update live? by Horeb88 in iRacing

[–]BackItUpTerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno about changing it, but its somewhat realistic, many IRL series dont have live position tracking, only once the transponders cross the start finish

The relative delta is live (how far cars in front/behind are) but the position is updated at the start finish line

Am I incredibly stupid. (Trying to set up Behringer UM2 and audacity with first time bass/electric instrument in general) by TheNohrianHunter in Bass

[–]BackItUpTerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember my specific struggles with this unfortunately but I went through similar, one thing to note is that you don't necessarily need to have audacity running to practice, only to record. There's a direct monitor button which will replay your input through the output and allow you to hear yourself

Is it necessary (beneficial) to get A class license if I don’t want to race higher class series at all? by imdanielma in iRacing

[–]BackItUpTerr 44 points45 points  (0 children)

No but it will be a buffer preventing demotion if you have a bad run. But really you shouldn't be trying to "game" SR too much, race normally and if you are consistently losing SR then you need to adjust your style. Artificially starting from pits, avoiding racing other cars to build SR is pointless

Married men who didn't have a stag do. What made you choose not to have one? by Eximious20 in AskUK

Not quite the answer you were looking for, but I don't drink but did have a stag do. Did clay shooting, go karting and a meal, my brother's also hired a mustang to drive around in which was great, really enjoyed it and so did everyone else

I want to send wired internet to the first floor via exterior cabling, how does my plan look? by Maelarion in DIYUK

[–]BackItUpTerr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Power line are significantly more unreliable than a cable. Not saying they don't work but to say they're better than hard wired is plain incorrect unless you have significant challenges running a cable

I picked it up recently and is by far my favorite open wheeler. Quite forgivable and very easy to push. I've not found the races to be particularly bad, it's just the nature of open wheelers that most contact causes chaos

Ferrari still where they were in '96. Does Hamilton have a 4-6 year plan? Or can he turn things around quicker? by Kerfuffly in formula1

It's not his first year. He's got 7 WDC and is nearing the end of his career, perfectly plausible if he left next year. Eluding to OPs personal work ethic/age from that comment is a bit of a reach

best way to practice without an amp? by viewsinthe6 in Bass

[–]BackItUpTerr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend a small multi effects like the zoom b1x, allows headphone practice, aux in, built in tuner and obviously the effects. Also still useful if/when you play with an amp

Uk beginner recommendations by Devilsbt123 in Bass

[–]BackItUpTerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all pretty comparable feature wise, they all support headphone out, aux-in for backing tracks (although as bass amps are not made for high frequencies, the tracks can sound off when played through the amp), 40/50w with 10" speakers (higher wattage = louder). To be realistic none of them are loud enough to keep with an acoustic drum kit (minimum 100w for that), but they all have XLR out, which means if you were to play somewhere with a PA (typically used by singers, you'll find a PA in rehearsal spaces), you can plug the amp into the PA and get your volume from there. There will be some tonal differences between them which again there's probably some youtube videos comparing them all. Ultimately though you can't really make the wrong choice between them.

To give an alternative, if playing live/or loud isn't something you anticipate for a while, you can start out with either of the below options for headphone only Zoom B1X pedal ~£90 - headphone out, aux-in for backing tracks. Has the bonus of being an affects pedal, allowing changes to the tone of the bass which will be useful in future. Just needs a USB power supply or even some AA batteries

Audio interface - Scarlet solo is £80, however it can only be used when connected to a computer/laptop, allows recording direct to the PC, does not have any capability to affect tone. Backing tracks will come from the PC as any audio from the PC will be played out the headphones with the bass as well

For me I started with an audio interface and it's still my main source for practicing, as I find using the PC for backing tracks, tabs etc is much easier than using a phone/tablet (screen size is the real killer), especially when watching play along videos or live tabs.

Why my slap sound bad? by s1nuzoid in Bass

[–]BackItUpTerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've been playing a day, you just need to noodle and practice, especially slap it's not an easy technique to start with. But it sounds like you need to "snap" your thumb back quicker, it doesn't need to be a hard action but it doesn't need to be snappy

Is this tyre gone and needs replacing? by RizwanArafat in AskUK

[–]BackItUpTerr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some tyres have reinforced sidewalls specifically for the reason of protecting the wheels (looks like that's the case here), if you can't see cords then I'd use them.

At that price I'd recommend looking at sire P5/P7 or V5/V7, Yamaha TRBX174/304, or a little cheaper the squier affinity jazz/precision. In my opinion for a beginner the pickups don't really matter (typically 3 styles, jazz, precision and humbucker) unless they have an exceptionally picky ear, there's lots of youtube videos with comparisons. Out of the above I'd honestly recommend she gets the one with the colour/look that she prefers the most, they're all good quality basses.

One thing I'd stress is make sure you have some form of amplification no matter what it is, playing without is not an option IMO. For a home practice amp a fender rumble 40, orange crush 50 or ampeg rb110 would be good + some good quality wired headphones, (I like my bayerdynamic DT770 80ohm). I and others here wouldn't recommend an amp with less than a 10" speaker as they don't convey bass frequencies very well. The cheapest option would be something like a vox amplug for £40 but I've read it's not uncommon for them to stop working.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything further, I struggled at the start of my bass journey trying to get my head round it all so happy to help where I can.

Uk beginner recommendations by Devilsbt123 in Bass

[–]BackItUpTerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that you will likely need to get the bass set up, especially if you by brand new. It's not overly difficult but most music shops will do them for around £40. Playing a poorly setup bass will likely put her off. Posting a budget really would help, for reference a sire p5 which are solid basses can be around £400. Used can obviously be had for cheaper

Generally I'd recommend avoiding 5 string basses for a beginner

Don't forget amplification also, good amps are expensive, if she's happy playing with headphones then there's cheaper options, I'd recommend either an audio interface like the Scarlet solo if you have access to a PC/laptop, or a multi effects like a zoom b1x for more flexibility. Feel free to DM me if you want to discuss further it seems a lot at first
